Product Description
Did you know that 30% of what we throw out is compostable? Composting is the key to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and replenishing our soils, reducing warming effects on the climate. BioBag Food Scraps bags are ideally used for the collection of food scraps and other kitchen waste for home, municipal and community composting. Our popular BioBag 3 Gallon Size is designed to fit most kitchen countertop composting pails. BioBags aren't meant to last forever but are durable and strong enough for the conventional collection of food waste and other compostable items. BioBags breathe naturally, allowing moisture to escape and evaporate. This process allows food waste to dry, thus reducing mold and bacteria, which causes odor. When BioBags are used with a ventilated bin, you'll have the ultimate system for food waste collection. BioBag is the leading supplier of compostable bags across the globe however, BioBag isn’t a large PE plastic bag company that now conveniently dabbles in the new world of compostable bags. We are a small company of dedicated employees, who are fully committed to ONLY producing Certified compostable bags and films. It’s All We Do! This product complies with California Law (SB 1972) and other state and local laws regarding compostable labeled products. BioBags are Biodegradable Products Institute certified to meet the ASTM D6400 specification. Biodegradable Products Institute Certification #891053. The ASTM D6400 is the North American equivalent of the European EN 13432. Both specifications require that compostable products completely decompose in a composting setting in a specific time frame, leaving no harmful residues behind. For best results: Use within one year of purchase; Store in a cool, dry place away from excessive heat. Try the fridge or freezer; Change out your used BioBag every 3-5 days; condensation may form when used in a closed container. If not a high usage consumer, please see our 100ct product to better fit your needs. Non-GMO Project Verified - BioBag Products met strict criteria for GMO avoidance to achieve this verification. BioBags are Manufactured in the USA with resin sourced from Italy. Certified compostable wording and the Biodegradable Products Institute (Biodegradable Products Institute ) logo are visibly printed on each bag. Approved for use in green & brown cart communities that accept compostable plastics.

The fact is they work for their intended purpose of not lasting in a landfill. Most of the bags I looked at before I bought these actually had people test in their own compost piles and none performed as they claim. With the way these react to contact with food, I would guess that they are completely broken down within 3 months. So if you get a bad batch, it’s Amazon, just return it and order some more.
We use the 2.6 Gallon bags in a 1.3 Gallon Compost bin. I cannot speak for any other size, but there is no way these are 2.6 Gallon, but they fit our bin perfectly. We have the Third Rock Compost Bin, round with the tree decorating the outside. We love it, never had an issue with smell or bugs. And it looks nice in the counter. Highly recommended.
We carry the whole bin to the green waste bin, because yes, the bags will be already breaking down and you do not want to risk the bag breaking on you. If you don’t have that option, I would say at least double bag it.
For most things, I use strong plastic bags, and I’m used to them. These are much more delicate and tear easily; the texture and feel is wispy and insubstantial; and - slightly creepy - they are porous, and food juices always seep through, soiling the little recycle bin they line and necessitating cleaning it every time.
I suppose compostable bags are necessary if they go to the city compost site full of food waste, but dealing with these bags and their foibles is a pain.

I challenged the business end of a banana skin while I was tying up the over-full bag (note to self: don't over-fill). The hard banana stem didn't penetrate the material, even with extreme provocation, and dropping the bag into the empty green bin didn't breach it. The 16"x17" bag size is perfect for those 8L/2gal oval counter-top bins. I looked at other brands online, but I wasn't sure that they were biodegradable and compostable: the BioBag is not outrageously more expensive for that assurance. Bonus: the box dispenses the bags as singles. Yes, no more pulling and tearing! Happy with the product.
.
I used to use Glad bags more expensive and always ripped just putting them in the container Waste of money!! These are amazingly strong Great purchase!!
