This device does exactly what you bought it for....it works flawlessly....there is one downside to it....it is small....small enough that it came out of my pocket without me knowing...probably when I was taking some change out....I lost it and a Sandisk 512gb micro sd card.....I have searched the great wide web and this device is not available....at a reasonable price...anywhere....Ebay has it for 45 bucks....ummm...no....if you are lucky enough to find this in stock....grab it....then please send me a message to let me know where I can get another one.....Come on Nekteck.....make more....please!

Cover Is Easy to Lose

This is a small, fast, and generally well-built adapter. Loaded with a Samsung 64GB EVO UHS 3 micro SD card and plugged into a USB-C slot, I see sequential writes at about 63MB/s along with ~92MB/s reads.

As would be expected, the drive gets warm under load.

Otherwise, the only legit complaint I have is that the retaining cover - the "lid" at the USB-A end - is prone to coming off. If you don't know to watch for this, especially if you plan to keep this thing in your pocket, the micro SD card will come out and both the lid and card will be prone to getting lost.

My new phone has USB-C so my old micro USB stick would not work. I bought this as an interesting replacement. It is not a memory stick, but an SD-Card reader. It has a very clever design where the card inserts into the reader where the plastic key that prevents inserting the USB stick backward would go. I have been using this reader as a memory stick for over 6 months without any problems. I am using a Samsung EVO 256G card with it. It works in my phone and it works in any PC I have plugged it into.

I think Nekteck is a good company, at least what I purchased from them is just good. These are not big things, but USB-C male to USB cable, USB-C cable, and now this SD card reader. I like the idea that it has the USB-C and additionally the standard USB plug, where you can fit in the SD card also. There is a safety cover not to loose the card. It is a well designed piece, works as it should.

Probably too wide to use with your MacBook Pro

5 stars because functionally it can read a 256GB microSDXC card just fine, and their customer service is great (offered to send me a replacement item).

But if you want to use this in a MacBook Pro, be aware that it will block the other USB-C port next to it.

The design is probably self-explanatory from the pictures. The USB-C plug is uncovered. The USB-A plug has a hinged cover. To insert a microSD card you need to flip up the cover and actually insert the microSD card into the bottom part of the USB-A plug. A microSD card could just as easily fit in the top half of the USB-A connector, so you need to take care to slide it into the correct side. There is a sliding switch on the bottom of the USB-A plug which will eject the microSD card.

If you have the Apple-brand power cable and just want to plug your MacBook Pro into power, you can probably squeeze this into the other USB-C port next to the power cable — as long as you insert it the right direction so that the weird lanyard knob sticking out the side isn't in the way. The Apple power cable seems really skinny compared to most USB-C plugs.

But most cables aren't going to fit next to it. Once you plug in the card reader, there is about 1 mm of clearance for anything you want to plug into the other port.
