Publisher's summary

From USA Today best-selling author Devney Perry comes a small-town friends-to-lovers romance.

Katherine Gates has been in love with Cash Greer since the moment he saved her life from a runaway goat. According to Cash, she’s the little sister he never had, the greatest roommate in the world and his favorite coworker. They’re friends - best friends.

In the dark days of her youth, it was her friendships that kept her alive and made life in a junkyard worth living. So she’s learned to shove her feelings for Cash down deep, even if that means ignoring eyes that shine brighter than the Montana summer sun and the smile that illuminates the snowiest winter day.

Except with every passing year, the denial takes its toll on her wounded heart until one day Katherine decides to take an impulsive road trip to the Oregon coast. Alone. That is, until Cash cons his way into the passenger seat.

The farther they travel, the harder it is to pretend. And when she confesses her feelings, she learns that Cash has some secrets of his own. Secrets that will either bond them together.

Or rip them apart.

Nice

My problem with this series is how the characters create their own story about what each other is thinking and/or feeling rather than just have an honest conversation and/or listen to one another.
Other than that I did enjoy the story. It’s an easy/quick read and I love all the characters

Satisfying ending

But the number of times Cat walks away without saying anything became so very frustrating! It won’t stop me from grabbing the next in the series. But seriously, sometimes the angst is just too much for grown adults. Background issues or not

Slow and frustrating for me

3 stars — Well huh. I was kinda looking forward to this one, but it just wasn’t a match for me.

It started off pretty slow for me, and while it did pick up, I felt like not as much happened in the story…I wanted more.

I was also pretty frustrated with both our MCs for a good portion of the book. Katherine is closed off and protective of her heart…and while I do understand it, it was frustrating to watch her make assumption after assumption and not give Cash any opportunities. For a “strong” character, she didn’t have a lot of strong moments in the story.

And Cash just had a lot of idiotic moments… He was definitely laid back, but passionate about his work. But…I don’t know. I feel like I didn’t really get much of an idea of who Cash was.

We’re told their best friends, but we don’t meet them at the most friendshipiest part of their relationship, since they’re at a bit of a crossroads. Their progression was very forward and backward throughout the story, and I guess I just didn’t feel that invested.

I was…not happy with the climax and the secrets. I had been waiting and waiting to find out Katherine’s story, and it was a doozy just like the others (though unique). And then to have the other secret? And the way that played out? I don’t know…I just felt very unhappy with how it all played out and was resolved…it felt like drama for drama sake, but then was cleaned up all nice and neat.

So yeah. It wasn’t a fave. Here’s hoping I enjoy Aria’s story more!

Both narrators did a solid job of narrating.

Friends to Lovers Perfection!

“Kat was mine. He could try to steal her and he’d lose. She’d been mine for a long time, even when I hadn’t wanted to admit it to myself.”
.
Review: This is book 3 in the Runaway Series. I love the premise behind this series. Six friends who grew up in a junkyard together. All reconnecting over a car that once was home.

This series continues to get better and better! Katherine has been in love with Cash from the moment she saw him, but he has only ever seen her as his best friend. When Katherine decides she needs a much needed break away from Cash and an overdue vacation, he insists on going on this road trip with her. I loved how persistent Cash was and how he wouldn't take no for an answer. Their journey was so fun and I loved how everything transpired. These two were perfection! The chemistry between them was fire. I just loved this swoony cowboy and all he was willing to do so that he wouldn't lose Katherine. I listened to the audiobook by Vanessa Edwin and Teddy Hamilton. I really enjoyed it and I can't wait for Aria and Brody next!

The Red Cadillac

i stumbled on Devney Perry while looking for other books narrated by Jason Clarke. .Some one dubbed this series Runaway. And yes all the main characters are runaways but the Red Cadillac is the glue, the catalyst, the Main character.
Book 3 in this series involving the Red Cadillac is Catherine and Cash's story. For years they have carried a torch for each other but she is an empolyee ad he is the boss. Forbidden
Another taste of Montana and the Greer family ranch.
Teddy Hamilton does a good job but he is not Jason Clarke. But now I am committed to the Red Cadillac and Devney Perry so I will continue.

Perfection! Road trip, friends to lovers

Quarter Miles is the third book in the Runaway series by Devney Perry. I love the premise of this series so much: “one car, one cross-country road trip, five stories about six runaways finally finding home!” In the author’s note it says how this series was inspired by her love for The Boxcar Children series and wondering whatever happened to those kids once they were adults. I loved those books growing up too and was so excited for this series because of that!

This sweet friends to lovers romance filled with all the longing and pining is my favorite in the series yet! Katherine takes over the red Cadillac and is ready for her road trip from Montana to Oregon to see childhood friend, Aria, and drop the car off to her. Kat has lived and worked at the Greer resort and ranch in Montana since arriving when she was 18. They took her into their family and love her like one of their own and she’s worked her way up to general manager of the resort as well. She has been secretly pining for Cash Greer for years, even though he only looks at her as a friend. When Kat sees him bring a date to family dinner, she realizes she wants a break and jumps at the chance for the roadtrip to Oregon. But when Cash hears about the trip last minute, he invites himself along.

I love a roadtrip romance and this one delivered on that, all the time on the road was so much fun to see. I loved that Kat and Cash have been friends for over a decade and roommates for the last 5 years, you could just tell all the history between them but also get to see all the things they still don’t know about one another unfold on the trip. We get to see Cash start to realize he has feelings for her on the trip and sees her as more. The title comes into play because they use a quarter on the trip to help make decisions along the way. At one of their stops, Cash kisses Kat to prove to himself there isn’t a spark between them, but then realizes that is far from the truth! We get a mention of the Clover Chapel, which makes an appearance in another Devney Perry book. Kat used the roadtrip to start questioning her future and starts to really think about not staying in Montana forever. I really loved these 2 together, all the tension and angst and the surprises along the way were so good and just added to the story.

This series is addictive.

Some authors just know how to tell a story, how to develop their characters that readers will enjoy. Each book in this series is just as addictive as the previous book, I can’t get enough of these characters. The stories are never dull, there’s so much love, passion, fun and a book that’s memorable. Highly recommended this series.
