First, these came better packed than a lot of expensive stuff I have bought, way better. Second, I cannot find anything wrong with these. The plates are well cast solid iron with a tough flat black paint, not so thick that when banged together they will chip. The threads are well cut square threads, which are strong, and you even get rubber washers to keep the plates from clanging, provided that the collars are twisted tight. I have seen the negative comments--ignore them--as in, the knurled handles feel pointed. They are SUPPOSED to be like that. And--there is a small rough spot. These are cast iron, that is the way they come out of the mold once in a while. Also, if the rubber washers give out, get a thin sheet of like material from your freindly hardware store and MAKE some more. Last, if you do find a sharp edge somewhere, put a file on it. These are a great little inexpensive set. Update- I just received the 50# set today-and while I still think these are a good set for the money, I can see a difference in the heavier set, paint is falling off of the 7.5# plates, but so what, I can fix that. I can understand others pointing these faults out,thogh. The good news-you won't break the bank with these.

I had an old dumbbell set that I got rid of a number of years ago but recently decided I should have a set around to help me keep in shape. These are much nicer than the old ones. With the old set I needed tools to add or remove weights and they always fit loosely. With this set, no tools required. The weights fit snugly and, visually, they just look nice. I'm not trying to look like a weight lifter - I just want to be more physically fit - and I think this set is perfect for my needs.

I got just the two curl bars version. I wanted some weights around to build up bicep strength. These were the most reasonably priced ones I could find. They showed up today and I’m very happy with the quality of the set! I would definitely recommend buying. Not sure why people prefer the cast iron rounds to the sand/cement mixture…I mean it’s just weight. I can see if maybe you dropped it and it cracked and broke. Anyhow, I’m a big fan of this set and the price I paid!

I bought the "40 lbs" option and liked everything about the quality of the construction, ease of assembly and use, etc. But the when I meassured the actual weights of the options, I was disappointed that they are lighter than advertised, and also they are not the familiar round number that can compare with fixed dumbbells. Here is what I measured with three different variable options (for each dumbbell ):
- 9.23 lbs
-13.75 lbs
- 18.8 lbs
The highest, being 18.8 lbs, amounts to 37.6 lbs total for two dumbells, which is 2.4 lbs less than the 40 lbs declared by the manufacturere. I will still keep these, because they are still useful for my purposes.

These were one of the least exspensive, but the quality is very good. The finish of the handle and the weights are smooth and better than expected. Everything fits nicely , there are no rattles or loose fitting parts. Get yours before they raise the price on these, highly recommend & would buy again. the paint is also peeled off but it's a minor issue. I won't use them outside so rust isn't my concern.

They are inexpensive adjustable dumbbells which is a great addition to my small home gym so I won't return them for the issues above but I'd give 3 stars because of them.
