    David Bruns earned a Bachelor of Science in Honors English from the United States Naval Academy. (That's not a typo. He's probably the only English major you'll ever meet who took multiple semesters of calculus, physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, naval architecture, and weapons systems just so he could read some Shakespeare. It was totally worth it.)

    Following six years as a US Navy submarine officer, David spent twenty years in the high-tech private sector. A graduate of the prestigious Clarion West Writers Workshop, he is the author of over twenty novels and dozens of short stories. His first novel, Shadows Burned In, earned the 2015 eLit Book Awards Gold Medal for Literary Fiction. The Lazarus Protocol, the first novel in the SynCorp Saga, placed in the Top Ten in Read Freely's 2018 50 Best Indie Book of the Year contest; it was the highest-rated Sci-Fi novel in the contest.

    He’s also edited and curated bestselling short story collections including the two animal-centric collections Tails of the Apocalypse and Tails of Dystopia (with Samuel Peralta), as well as Bridge Across the Stars, a collection of Sci-Fi stories from indie and traditionally published authors published by Sci-Fi Bridge, which Chris co-founded. His dayjob is editor-in-chief for the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, which researches cutting-edge technologies across the transportation spectrum.

    When he’s not writing, editing, or working the dayjob, Chris loves exercising regularly, watching shows like Star Trek and Stranger Things, and reading his favorite authors. Saving the world is not easy, considering the dire circumstances that humanity is facing. No water in Arizona, hurricanes causing Floridians to evacuate land that is eroding to the sea, and flash-freezes in Beijing. But there are dedicated scientists, trying over and over, to come up with a solution that will make Earth sustainable again. If not, there’s a back-up plan for the Moon and Mars, but they are not giving up on Earth just yet. The President of the United States has a plan that will need the entire world’s cooperation to ensure its success. But is everyone on board? Does everyone have Earth’s best interests in mind? This is a really interesting story about efforts to save a dying planet. There are a couple of instances in the plot that I consider “cringeworthy”, but they play an important role in the character development.
I really enjoyed the characters and the plot, and look forward to reading more from one of my favorite authors!

I just finished reading The Lazarus Protocol and WOW! There is nonstop action as we move from Remy to Graves to Ming back to Remy but this time with Elise and on to Anthony. To some this might be confusing, to me it is like following a complicated maneuver whether in a game, a battle or a ballet. Everything that appears to be spinning out of control is slowly being brought together. We jump from the Vicksburg Mississippi to Phoenix Arizona, to LUNa City the Moon down to Alaska up to Mars back to the Arizona Desert, then to an orbit above the Earth and on to China. Again this is just the first seven out of twenty nine chapters. We watch the machinations of the rich and powerful as well as the sometimes horrific results of these actions upon the Earth and the people living there. The book leaves us wanting more. I know I have already started reading Cassandra’s War.

Plot starts out ok but really how do you totally blame a military unit defending themselves and it was all caught on a news drone? Never mind that. Zoom to the moon where we supposedly have the main supervisor with all that's on her mind is watching "vids" with her yummy paled skinned lover. Moving right along we meet the political and predictable president. Next a Tony Stark or Elon musk type who is trying to reseed a dying earth and teraform Mars. Oh did I mention he has a spoiled adult son? Anyways it was okay but I just couldn't like Ming. She is supposed to be smart but comes across as just mean. I won't go on about Elise or stupid Remy who is so enamoured by her he can't see how evil she is. So it isn't horrible and I hope the authors keep writing because I think they will be better.

Found this series via a side-story in an anthology: “Bridge to the Stars”. The Lazarus Protocol is the beginning of a prequel to the sf universe that one learns about in the anthology. But that’s not really all that important. This book (and the second in the series) are worthwhile and fun reads.

I’m the sort of reader who gets bored fairly quickly if the characters and scenario don’t grab me early on. I read through this avidly - the characters and tensions make it one of those books where you want to see what happens next. It’s a mix of sf dusted with some political intrigue, and there’s relevance to today’s environmental issues (but I don’t want to have any spoilers)

The second book in the series is similarly good, waiting for what comes next!

I guess I should start by saying that if I did not have to work the following day I would have read this book in one night. The prose flows seamlessly. The authors tell the over-all story by intertwining three characters and the events they experience in a format that is hard to ignore. I really liked the fact that I didn't have to negotiate correctly spelled words that appeared in the wrong sentences like I so often have to do in modern sci-fi literature. In other words, it's obvious a real live editor worked on this book, and not just a spell-checking program. The story does not end with this book, which is okay because I'm really looking forward to the second in the series. Arnold
