I am video production professional and I teach filmmaking at the local community college.

This tripod is available from other sources for a lot more. So I was a bit skeptical. It arrived today in the mail. Wow. I am impressed. Legs are sturdy yet compact, pan and tilt are smooth, and the legs raise to a very nice height at that third step, probably 8 feet. Perfect for events. Sturdy enough platform to handle a slider. It looks and feels very professional.

Big step up from what I was using, which was a Magnus VT 4000. A very reasonable tripod with a lot of bells and whistles for the price, near perfect for DSLR filmmaking. This Manfrotto is like the robust professional version of that tripod. Both are fluid heads, but this one looks/feels so much nicer.

Some reviewers talked about how heavy it was. Before it arrived I was worried about portability, as for me, that is key when I need to move fast. I feel like this tripod gets compact enough to travel well. But time will tell!

Great tripod and head... Some have commented on the tilt lock on the right side but I mount my monitor on the left side with an articulating arm so it works, the tilt drag compensates well with the counterbalance which balances my gh2 7" monitor and mic very nicely to point of holding it in place on tilts. I would have had to have spent a lot more money to get noticeably better performance over Manfrotto MVK502AQ head & sticks...luv the bowl & ball system having used flat head systems in the past which use to slow me down adjusting legs to level !

This is a beast. Huge, smooth head for adjustable titling and panning. Strong legs that extend high. I thought since the legs were four sections it would be a bit flimsy, but I was wrong.

It's overkill for me, shooting video with a MFT mirrorless, small set up. But I like it.
