This is the first significant change to this tent (Timberline SQ 4XT vs. Timberline 4XT) for a bunch of years for Eureka. Why change such a great, well proven tent? Though I have not "thrash tested" the new SQ design the changes seem to be mostly complimentary. The spreader bar adds additional spacious headroom without changing the footprint, the updated overhanging wings of the fly over the rear door (or front door as I normally use it) helps keep weather out and dry directly in front of the door (in a wide variety of conditions) which means less mess getting inside the tent. The odd colored corner buckle (yellow rather than the orange on the three other corners) on the tent and fly make for quick & easy identification during set-up. I love the built-in vestibule and the addition of the external guy points on the fly. I'm hoping that the pole interconnect hubs and the plastic corner clips prove to be strong and reliable ling term. There is also the cool ability to set-up the fly as a shelter without the tent though I have not used it that way yet.
We're planning on taking it with us next summer for a backpacking trip with just the rainfly (plus vestibule), footprint, and frame.
