Initially, I found the midsole felt a bit too firm, and its width was narrow for me. Although I had read plenty of reviews in runners’ communities indicating this shoe is far from cushiony but rather firm, I still didn’t find it very comfortable at the beginning. In fact, despite having narrow feet, I found the shoe too tight, and my soles even became sore during the first run. The only thing I found great was its lightness.
However, it totally changed after a week of breaking in.
This shoe is still not the most cushiony one out there, but there is enough cushioning to be felt. These are still a bit firmer ones on the market, but I now find it perfectly balanced between comfort and responsiveness. I know many people prefer ‘hyper cushiony’ ones, and I was one of them, but thick cushions do not always guarantee comfort in the long run. Now I find this shoe comfortable and reliable even for hours of running. While some people may expect more from this shoe, I believe it's a great choice for any type of runner in this price range ($55 ~ $65).

You can read my glowing review below. These are my second pair. After a couple months, the tread in the sole started coming apart, adding an extra note to my gate. Yeah, I found it kinda neat musically, but everyone I walked around was annoyed. I eventually pulled the loose piece off. Many more have followed. A lot of people feel funny about a person with holes in their shoes. I also got a hole in the toe, much quicker than with my first pair.
I tend to hold grudges when it comes to these global rotten companies, in the business of making money, not shoes. I won’t get more dramatic than that, as I’ve come to understand that in some industries, there’s no better choice. Still, I’ll likely never by Saucony’s again. (Again, not trying to be dramatic, but I don’t want to waste my money. There are plenty of options out there. I see these are 50% off now. I’ve had cheaper shoes last longer than this second pair of The Rides. … maybe if I heard they axed all their upper management and board of directors. Something crazy like that, or if they were free or only a couple bucks. Thats why I say never again. It’s not a boycott, but it might as well be)
Now I have to find the new companies saying that they’re different, when only their marketing is. Modern problems, I guess.
——————-_
I sent away for a pair of Karhu ikonis. I really liked them. They were soft but supportive. They looked cool. But…. They were a bit narrow, and the arch support hit in front of my arch.
I sent them back for these, and it’s really worked out. The shoe fits my foot right. Its also soft yet supportive. Plus! These have a noticeable bounce or rebound, which feels pretty awesome tbh.
I stair climb (real stairs and escalators). Some website recommends these. I can’t remember the organization, but they recommended these, new balance 1080s, Karhu Ikonis, and a few others, for stair climbing.
I got thes for about 60 bucks less than the Karhus. It’s a bonus.
Stupid point: Karhus are more of a conversation piece or more exotic. Many years ago, sauconys were this way, but now they’re universally known.
That said, I still think they’re pretty cool.
I’m using them now and they feel so good! I’m usually a normal width, but lean wide. The Karhus were too narrow. The Rides fit just right, to the point that I considered sending them back wides. I’m just saying that you might want to try a wide if you sometimes need to buy wides. They’re wider than your pumas, of course. This last paragraph seems pointless. The width is in the normal range.
I’d get a kick out of it, if a fellow stair climber read this and it helped them out. Best of luck to you regardless. I hope you find the right pair.
EDIT: so I bought a pair of the New Balance 880s after these. I wanted to love them, but it was as though the insides were reversed. None of the support hit my foot the right way.
I don’t rarely by a shoe twice, but I didn’t want to screw around. I got a boring grey pair this time. They’re fine, but the first pair I had were black, with white and silver trim. Those were much doper than these great ones. They have peach aglets on black laces. Very cool.
I don’t care that my new ones look boring. They feel great!
NOW to the shoes… I have a “Neutral” foot with regular arches. This is my 7th running shoe to buy since March 2022, 1st pair of Saucony ever tho I’ve always liked the style of them. I’ve had the
1. NB 1080s v11 (I like these),
2. 880s v11 (I really liked these),
3. Hoka Clifton 8 (hurt my toes a lot),
4. adidas ultra boost 20s (this was my 1st pair to buy for running when I began, purchased size 11 and I really messed up my toes, and toe nails with these. I literally had a few toenails come off - come to find out after going to fleet feet I needed an 11.5! love the look of these shoes but had to move on!
5. NB More v3 - didn’t even do 2 miles in these before I took them off! Too big of an offset! Returned day after receiving!
6. Brooks Ghost 14 - I liked these. Very similar to the NB 880s! In 101 days I had put just under 800 miles on these shoes. The liner was coming off on heel of shoe and the liner had a rip in them on the right shoe - bound to happen from getting drenched in sweat everyday and drying in front of a fan to be able to go again the next day. Overall I was pretty happy with these! Same as 880s and I also liked the 1080s as well!!
7. The Saucony Ride 16s - I called and spoke to a rep at fleet feet and asked/compared a couple shoes, 880s v13, Ghost 15s, or Ride 16s. They recommended the Ride 16s for their durability! I ordered on June 14, received June 15, 1st run on 16th. I will say I usually do treadmill since I’m usually running at 4-5am. But I do like going outside when I can. To start, I have REALLY liked these shoes. I can even say these just may be my favorites. I’m trying all these different shoes to try and find my “Go-To” brand for running since I’m still a bit new. We did go on vaca to Florida last week so I had to do outside runs for 1 week which I didn’t mind at all. The town was awesome, had special lanes just for running/walking and another just for bikes. UNFORTUNATELY, I did find Saturday night, 7/1/23 (shoes are only 2 weeks old) that a part of the sole on the bottom of the shoe had come loose and was hanging down. I was in a hotel on way home so I still did a treadmill run. After this run I found another part of the sole had come loose both on the left shoe. I ONLY wear these shoes when running, that is it, so about 1-2 hours a day. Strictly used for running (all of these shoes were only used for running- no leisure wearing). So I am a bit disappointed in this. I have submitted a defect to Saucony and hope they replace! I threw the shoe box away since I like the shoe so much I knew I was keeping them. I really want a replacement pair bc I really do like these shoes just really surprised that I’m just2 weeks I have 2 pieces of the sole on bottom left shoe come loose and hanging! Only have about 120 +or-miles on these shoes so far. The shoes are very responsive, the offset is nice, cushioning and comfort is top notch. My literal only complaint is the 2 pieces of sole coming loose! Otherwise, if I get a replacement I just may be sticking with Saucony for a while. We shall see. If not, I may go back to the NB 880s, tho I do feel the Ride 16s are a little more comfy I believe, but 2 more newer versions on the 880s have come out since the pair I had.
So I give these shoes 4 stars would be 5 if not for this defect! If they replace the shoe for me I’ll update to 5 stars. I know sometimes things like this can happen to any good brand. Just hope they make it right! I know these shoes are “only $140” but that’s still a lot of money to me so I don’t take spending $140 on shoes lightly!

The one minor inconvenience I've had is with the flat laces. They tend to come untied easily, so I just double-knot them now.
