Once I finally got a working unit, it was wonderful!
5 Stars
Once I finally got a working unit, it was wonderful!
So, I originally ordered 2 of these. When they arrived, one worked great, but the other one was leaking all of its coolant fluid out of it. The box was all torn up and there was a spot where the outer plastic cover of the unit was crushed or punctured. The replacement came and was also leaking all of its coolant out... actually it was in worse condition. Finally, the replacement for the replacement came and it was in perfect condition; no leaks, no scratches, no issues. Finally! The pictures are of the first one that arrived leaking coolant. So now that I have the two, the timing is pretty perfect. It's early spring, so some days have been in the mid 80's and some days have been in the 30's. That's just how Texas weather is. I can say that both the cooling and heating is awesome on these things. What took me back was how quiet these things were. Some other reviews said they are loud. Compared to what, I don't know, but mine are super quiet. I wasn't expecting this since this is, essentially, an electric furnace and a/c in a plastic container. My only guess about the noise is that they're comparing the noise it makes to... silence, I guess, or (a common issue with any air conditioner) is that they plugged it up and powered it on soon after getting it. When it comes to anything with a compressor pump that moves coolant (or any liquid, for that matter), you have to let it sit upright for hours before ever powering it on. The compressor is not made to move air, so if the liquids haven't settled properly before operating, you're going to quickly damage your compressor. It might still "work", but it might loud or it may never heat or cool to its full capacity. Same goes for refrigerators. The heat capacity of this was impressive. It takes a moment to warm up, so when it does come on, the compressor might kick on first, then the fan will kick in on low. After a while of running it'll be much warmer than when it starts. So far, the coolest night for me was 34 degrees and I actually had to turn them down from 72 to 68 because it quickly got hot in here. While the heat coming out may not be as hot as the heat from a gas furnace or electric space heater, it moves far more air in general. The heat coming out won't be hot enough to set something on fire like a space heater, but the massive amount of air it moves quickly made me see why it didn't need to be any hotter. The heat these provide are more impressive when I realized they use less than 1000 watts each when they are on heat. Most much smaller and less capable space heaters use at least 1500 watts. This thing does have a setting to use to dry out or evaporate the water it has accumulated. If you don't use the included drain hose and leave the drain plugged, it will evaporate this water off when it fills up. If you use it, what's interesting is that the drain is pressured; it comes out with a bit of force, enough to blow bubbles when submerged. It won't splatter water everywhere, but what's good about this is that it means it won't get clogged up like the drain on most air conditioners.I have been working from home for years and years, long before covid, so I know how important it is to have a quiet room to work in as background noise can not only be distracting, but can get you fired. This thing sits less than 6 feet away and can't be detected on my mic. Again, a working unit shouldn't be loud. It says to let it stand upright for at least 2 hours before turning on. I let them stand for at least twice that time, 4 hours. This might be the reason my units are quiet because once that compressor pushes air, it will never run quietly again if it keeps working. As far as the remote, you don't have to point it right at it for it to work. This, like all portable air conditioners, will create a bit of a vacuum which will pull air into any cracks in your walls, windows, floors, etc. No matter how well your home was built, it will pull that air in from somewhere... kitchen vents, dryer vents, bathroom air vents, etc. This happens because the air that the unit uses to cool the rear radiator, which vents outside, is pulled from the back and sides of the unit. It also pulls the air that it is going to heat or cool through the same area. So only some of the air is coming back out into your home (the air that is heated or cooled), but about half of all the air coming in is pushed out of the back of the air conditioner out of the vent that goes through the window. I'm used to using portable air conditioners, so I tend to build a box around them and put an extra vent near the back and pipe it outside, about half the size of the one going out. That tends to stop the issue and give me far greater BTU value than it is rated at. Otherwise, I just leave a window cracked somewhere near the unit as I am used to having to do this with wood stoves anyhow.

A good all-around unit, light, simple to install and maintain, and it does a stellar job in my 15x15-ft bedroom, I would definitely recommend it. The instruction booklet was not very well written or formatted, they do need to work on this. I was surprised when I received the unit to find it was PYLE USA, a electronics manufacturer that specializes in audio, I've purchased some of their equipment in the past, and it's still running just fine. The remote control is just the way I like it, it runs the basic functions without having to have a PhD in electronics engineering, just the basic buttons but all the ones you need.

Recommended.....

Update: 7/31/2021

I purchased a second unit, now they are the only AC units running in the house. The temperature is 102° outside, and one unit is in the living room, and one is in the back side of the house, which is about 1100 ft². The temperature is a nice 70° in the house, which I did not expect, between the two units there is 16,000 BTU, (actually 15,000 BTU) which from a standpoint of thermal units shouldn't be enough to cool the house, but I'll be darned if it doesn't. Good units, get them while you can.

This is an update covering the last two years of use with two of these, today I'm coming back for a third one.

I'm not going to butter your bread, you'll get an honest evaluation for me.

The two units that I have in a straight performance viewpoint have been nothing short of astounding, these units just run and run and run, both units have been on 24/7 for the last 2 years, obviously you don't need an AC unit in the winter, what we use them as air filters as well, put on fan only the unit does a good job of clearing the air in the room. I bought one for my personal bedroom, I like my own climate control, and I love to sleep in a chilled room with the blankets piled up.

The only thing I could legitimately gripe about is the units are a bit noisy, but to me it's almost like a comforting white noise sound, it's not screeching, or making loud mechanical noises, it produces a low frequency hum which is noticeable, but not displeasing.

2 years of 100% reliable use, and a cooling capacity that definitely exceeds its rating You're not going to find anything that works as hard and performs as well for under $300

My recommendation for this unit is simply this, after 2 years of owning two of these, I'm adding a third.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Cold AC for a small room
Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2022
Great unit, and mirroring what most of the other reviews said, this unit works great and cools down a 200 sq/ft room very fast and keeps it comfortable. Not so much that great in a 500-ish sq/ft area with vaulted ceilings, but you can definitely feel the difference after 20 minutes of it running.

There really aren't any negatives to say about this, but I will say a few things that I've noticed and wish it could be different on the AC unit. It's nothing that would prevent me from returning it, as it does what I need it to do. The fan on the high setting is a bit loud, especially when the unit is close to you but that's expected. Also, there's a fair amount of heat generated from the rear by the hose area - no hot air blowing, but if you put your hands back there you can definitely feel the heat radiating from the unit and the exhaust hose. I would recommend placing this closer to a wall or in the corner of a room.

The other thing is I wish this unit had adjustable power, or at least was more energy efficient and drew a lower wattage to save on electricity (and your electric bill). I use this AC unit on a Ecoflow Delta Pro with a 3.6 kWh battery, and it'll run just shy of 3 hours on the Delta Pro, or 4.5 hours with a 400W solar panel connected at the same time. The AC unit consistently pulls 1000 watts of electricity in cooling mode, and it's the same 1000 watts in either low or high mode, so we just leave it on high to cool the room faster. I've seen some 14,000 BTU window units only draw 500-600 watts or electricity, so it would've been nice is this unit was more energy efficient. I wish it didn't draw as much power since we run this unit on a solar generator, as it's much cheaper for me to charge the generator at night than it is to plug in the AC unit into the house wall outlet during the day. Still, it's perfect on those summer afternoons when it gets hot in the house.

The last thing I would mention is the included window kit. It's nice that the AC unit comes with an exhaust host and window kit to vent out the heat, but the window kit is limited in the adjustability. There's only a few windows in my house where this included window kit will actually fit, otherwise it's either too short or too long. I bought the Gulrear Portable Air Conditioner Sliding Door Vent Kit ($29 on Amazon) that has 4 sections and doesn't taper the exhaust vent, so I can either put this on our 80" tall patio door or on a much shorter window in my son's room. I wouldn't say the included window kit is worthless, as it still works and does its job. The hose will easily pop off the panel if you're moving the unit around and the hose moves a little bit, but it'll stay in place when you need it to.

Overall, this is a great unit for the price.

I'm using this unit in my office/room...I do not like BaseBoard heaters... It's kind of early in the game to be giving reveiws, but so far everything is working fine...the unit takes up less floor space than my old Gree A/C...It probably runs a little quieter. It was packaged well...The box sustained a lot of damage but the product remained in tact....It is really kind of early in the game to be giving reviews, but so far all is well...if down the road I have a problem I will get back to you.
(it too bad Amazon didn't give me me some incentives to write this)
they haven't so far...
All in all I'm happy with with the transaction so far, but as I said before it's early in the game...stay tuned
