From the USA TODAY bestselling author of the Game Changers series comes a merry and bright hockey romance about finding your place, finding your people and finding your way back to the one you love the most.
For Landon Stackhouse, being called up from the Calgary farm team is exciting and terrifying, even if, as the backup goalie, he rarely leaves the bench. A quiet loner by nature, Landon knows he gives off strong “don’t talk to me” vibes. The only player who doesn’t seem to notice is Calgary’s superstar young winger, Casey Hicks.
Casey treats Landon like an old friend, even though they’ve only interacted briefly in the past. He’s endlessly charming and completely laid-back in a way that Landon absolutely can’t relate to. They couldn’t have less in common, but Landon needs a place to live that’s not a hotel room and Casey has just bought a massive house—and hates being alone.
As roommates, Casey refuses to be defeated by Landon’s one-word answers. As friends, Landon comes to notice a few things about Casey, like his wide, easy smile and sparkling green-blue eyes. Spending the holidays together only intensifies their bromance-turned-romance. But as the new year approaches, the countdown to the end of Landon’s time in Calgary is on.

Review
“Reid’s winning formula of on-ice action and off-ice passion continues to work well, though longtime fans will find the relationship dynamics a bit familiar. Still, there’s plenty to swoon over here.”—Publishers Weekly

About the author
Rachel Reid is the pen name of Rachelle Goguen. She chose it because it is much easier to say, spell and remember than Rachelle Goguen!
Rachel writes cute, romantic smut, mostly about hockey players.
Rachel/Rachelle lives in Nova Scotia, Canada. She has always lived there, and it's looking like she probably always will. She has two boring degrees and two interesting kids.
Her Game Changers male/male hockey romance series is published by Carina Press and is available wherever you buy ebooks or audiobooks!

MM Sports Romance (Hockey)
Plot: Casey Hicks may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but he knows a brooding, lonely guy in need of a hug when he sees one. And Landon Stackhouse really needs a hug. The quiet, hulking goalie just got called up to the NHL after Casey’s teammate was injured during a nasty play, and it’s obvious that Landon isn’t convinced he’s good enough to be here.
Casey loves people and is the life of the party, so it makes sense that he should be the one to officially welcome Landon to the team. Casey also has a terrible fear of being alone, so inviting Landon to be his roommate would help them both out. Of course, Casey didn’t expect that Landon would be so delectable, either.
For Landon, it’s hard to resist Casey’s relentless cheer. There’s something infectious about being with him, and it isn’t long before Landon starts believing in happiness again, even though he doesn’t deserve it. And what’s the point anyway? As the back-up to the back-up goalie, Landon knows his time with the team is limited. It’ll be hard enough to say goodbye, even without all these pesky FEELINGS.
First Take: I really loved this book. It’s such a ray of sunshine. A lighthearted little Christmas miracle. These two are so adorable you just want to put them in your pocket and carry them around with you forever. Casey is completely outrageous and his golden retriever heart had me LOLing left and right. He’s just so innocent and fun to be around. And Landon is the type of character you just want to hug and protect forever. I felt so much joy from start to finish.
Praises: I’ve read all of Rachel Reid’s books, and I really love how she combines romance and hockey so seamlessly. It’s always the perfect amount of both. It’s super fun to play in the games alongside the characters and then see what they get up to during the little moments in-between. Reid is so good at giving us a decent glimpse of the action. I also loved that we get a character who isn’t conventionally brilliant. It’s like every MC in the romance world has to be the smartest, most handsome man in the room. And Casey shows us that there is more than one type of intelligence, and that brains aren’t even the most important thing (it’s love, obviously).
Critiques: If I had one critique, and I’m not really even sure this IS a critique, I might say that this story is extra light and fluffy in its tone. It is definitely a Christmas romance. There’s very little angst and lots and lots of cozy cuddles *sigh*. It is the perfect feel good, warm & toasty holiday novel. This relentless cheer kept Landon’s grief and trauma and general moroseness from being too much of a downer, but I also felt maybe the tone was sometimes not quite grave enough? I guess I expected to suffer a little more. Also, I thought Casey’s POV felt more like that of a late teenager or early college kid. I kept picturing him in my mind as an extremely young person, rather than a grownup professional hockey player. I’d say that feeling had resolved by the end of the story, but I found I kept having to remind myself throughout that neither one of them were eighteen.
Prose: 3rd person POV from Landon and Casey. I feel like it’s really important to mention Landon’s (implied) demisexuality. Representation is so important, and I think people assume that to have a successful relationship, a certain amount of intimate activity is required. Landon and Casey show us that isn’t the case at all. They do a fab job of respecting each other’s boundaries and figuring out what works for them (and maybe teaching us readers a thing or two along the way). In this respect they are both very wise beyond their years.
Steam: 💜💜💜💜 It’s a pretty slow burn, but once these two get going, the steam is extra sweet.
Cliffhanger: HEA, No cliffhanger.
Memorable quotes:
“You look really good,” Casey said. And that was when Landon decided to spend way too much money on a sweater.
He wanted to just be with Landon at the party, and then be with him some more when they got back home. And then later in bed. And then the next morning. And maybe every day and night after that.
Casey always offered fun and joy. All Landon ever had to do was say yes.
Stand-Alones, Prequels, Sequels, & Tangents: Standalone novel.
Landon and Casey were such a good couple.
This book is so special. This book is so tender. This book is everything.
Casey and Landon have got to be the most perfect couple I've ever read in a hockey romance. Casey's on unabashed enthusiasm for life, and his extraverted golden retriever energy matched Landon's subdued calm, peaceful façade so well. These two have chemistry like no one else I've ever read on the page. I was so invested in their love story and I can't believe I haven't reread this book yet.
I could truly talk about this book all day long but I'm going to leave you with... please read this book. It is phenomenal.
I think I loved how different Landon and Casey were from the jump. Landon is a true introvert with a traumatic past that haunts him. His sister was the one with friends who came and supported him at all of this games growing up. She is gone now and Landon has drifted apart from his family since he played hockey through his grief. Casey is the literal complete opposite. He is bi. He is EXTROVERTED. He is the life of the party on their hockey team. Everyone loves him but also lovingly thinks he is annoying. Inside though, Casey is lonely. He bought this huge house and hates that it is not constantly full. He has all of this fame but just wants a special someone.
When Landon is brought up from the minor leagues to play on Casey’s team while one of the goalies is hurt, Casey offers a room in his house. Casey is definitely attracted to Landon but doesn’t know how to navigate the terrain that is Landon LOL. He just can’t get a read on him. Landon is so thrown off by how much Casey pushes him to be more social and get outside of his comfort zone. It was adorable. He finds himself getting a little not jealous but jealous when Casey is going home with other people. One night they have a convo and Landon comes out to Casey. Casey still doesn’t pick up on the fact that he finds him attractive so tries to connect him with some people which of course fails miserably. Until one night they connect and their first kiss is magical. The spice scenes in this book were PERFECT! Casey is MUCH more experienced than Landon but instead of pushing it he wants to do things that Landon is comfortable with while also expanding his horizons which of course they do 🔥
All seems to be going well until the goalie that was hurt is ready to play again. This is when Landon shuts down and our third act kicks in. Landon doesn’t want to try to do a relationship with Casey because he doesn’t want to get hurt. Even though Casey has helped him reconnect with his family and shown him that he is important to him- bottom line he is terrified. Until he gets his head out of his ass when Casey takes the leap and comes to visit him.
Yall I REALLY liked this book. It was relatable and genuine. It made me laugh and inwardly cry at the pain these guys were feeling. I’m glad they found each other and hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!
