It is basically a small electric burner with 2 heat settings. The smores setting is hot enough to roast marshmallows in a couple of minutes and that is what I bought it for, so I will keep it. To be honest though, you could probably accomplish the same task over a toaster...
The product also has a setting for fondue which would probably work fine, except that the metal cover that goes over the burner does not attach in any way, it just sits on top. So if you bump it, it slides off the side. I tried putting a small pot on the cover to see how stable it was but if the pot is even a little bit off center, the metal cover slides off. If you used it for fondue, you would have hot fondue all over the place in no time.
