I bought this CPU to put into a budget build for my girlfriend. This CPU is fantastic; she gets a solid 144fps with absolutely no frame drops under 100fps in Fortnite, Overwatch, and many others, and with the CPU being underpowered by a 1650 super I can only imagine how well it would run with something like a 3060. Also, I had read about and was expecting to have thermal issues with the stock cooler until I received the water cooler I ordered, but the cooler has had no problems keeping the CPU cool under load. The only thing I did was removed the pre-applied paste and applied some MX-6 thermal paste. Overall, great budget CPU for gaming.

This is a good mid tier CPU that can run AAA games in 1080p when paired with a 3070 / 3080 / 4060 GPU. Go with this option if the more expensive i5 with "E" cores isn't something you need. The E cores add heat and raise the TDP which are negatives for someone like me who doesn't need them. the 12400 i5 is the sweet spot of the intel 1700 socket lineup right now in 2023 / 2024.

6 cores are good for almost any video card on the market. Its intel. How can you go wrong now days? Intel. And who really cares as long as it is within budget of what your building? Who cares? Its just been processing for the last year. No issues. I dont overclock and I wouldn't overclock. This is my wife's PC. I dont feel like hearing the disappointment in her voice.
