I really want to love this product...
3 Stars
I really want to love this product...
So I just set up a Hub2, 4 Indoor Hydrometer Plus sensors, and a single outdoor Hydrometer sensor. Everything seems to be working. The temp sensors need 30 minutes to do some sort of self calibration when turned on for the very first time, so I waited for that and all the sensors seem to be pretty close to what my Thermostat says in the living room. I was then able to calibrate all the sensors to read the same. I have cloud service turned on for all the units, which I'm assuming means they are now connected to the Hub2 and visible in the app even when I'm not home, but I haven't tested that yet. I would know if I had proper instructions but more on that in a minute. So far, everything seems pretty great. Why the 3-star rating, you ask? 3 reasons.1) The almost utter lack of instructions. The instructions say almost nothing about how to set anything up, nor do they give much (if any) info on what any of the buttons or settings are for. I mostly just had to download their app and wing it. Luckily, I'm tech-savvy, so I was able to stumble my way through it. Fortunately, once you're in the app, it does give you a few hints here and there that helped me get it set up a little more quickly. I've seen some pretty abysmal directions in my time, but this takes the cake.2) There's no way to modify how the information on the home screen of the app is displayed. Including the Hub2, I have a total of 6 sensors running. The only info these sensors display is Temp and Humidity, but for some reason this is displayed in a format that takes up a huge amount of room on your phone screen, meaning you have to scroll to see anything past the first 3 sensors. (See attached pic). This is ridiculous given that the name of the sensor, the temp, and the humidity could all be displayed on a single line, thus allowing a person to see like 10–15 sensors all at the same time. Initially I thought there would be some way to change the display, kind of like you can for something like a weather app on your phone. You know how you can select how many tiles it takes up on your screen? That kind of thing, but there is not. They do have an "edit home screen" option, but they only thing it seems to let you do on that screen is move the tiles around, BUT they won't stay where you put them. You can't even change positions in the list on this screen. You'd think you would be able to, but there's a whole different menu and screen to change the display order, so I can't for the life of me figure out what the "edit home screen" option is even for.3) When I was looking around for an indoor/outdoor thermometer set that I could access from anywhere via the web, this set struck me right away as something that might fit the bill. That being said, NOWHERE in the product description (or even when I asked on Amazon under both the indoor and outdoor thermometers) did I get an answer to "Are the outdoor sensors compatible with the Hub2 or the Hub-mini?". The title and the listing itself would seem to imply they are Bluetooth only. THEY ARE COMPATIBLE WITH THE HUBS FOR ANYONE IN THE FUTURE WONDERING!!! (It's compatible with, at least, the Hub2, for sure. I'm assuming with the older hubs and the mini also) I had to just buy all of this stuff in order to try for myself and see. Needless to say, I shouldn't have to do that. In fact, I only made the purchase because I was fairly confident they would be compatible, since all the other Switchbot products I saw on Amazon were compatible. If I wasn't pretty dang confident it would work, I'd have never ordered it just to try and see if it works and Switchbot would have missed a $135 sale, not to mention whatever I might spend on their other compatible products. If they all perform exceptionally, and I don't have any issues with any of them in a couple/few years I may come back and give it another star, but right now it gets 3 and one to grow on...

I bought the hub with 4 sensors. Setup was pretty straight forward. Hub integrated easily onto my Wifi network and Alexa environment. I have one sensor in my pump house with an alarm when the temperature drops near freezing. A second is inside a freezer watching for temperatures above 10 degrees. This sensor does not update very often, I think the Bluetooth signal has a hard time getting out. However all I need to do is open it and I have the history of it's performance. The third sensor is inside my small wood drying kiln I use for bowl blank. Here the humidity sensor is very useful. The 4th is inside my workshop so I know what issues I will face with glues and finishes. There are issues with the speed of the updates, probably caused by the distance from the hub, but the data is updated eventually. However the fact that each sensor records readings about every 2 seconds and stores those results helps remediate the slow updates. The data is there. Like I said it fulfills my needs. The app is well designed, robust, and provides a good set of tools to review this recorded data. All in all I would recommend this to anyone who doesn't need instantaneous temperature reading and alarms.

Bought this to upgrade from the Switchbot Hub Mini so that my Switchbot curtains could be controlled directly through the Apple Home App and Siri. With the previous Hub Mini, you had to set up all sorts of shortcut routines in the iPhone shortcut app to be able to control the switchbot curtains with Siri, and these shortcuts generally worked, but like 75% of time (meaning you would occasionally have to ask 2-3 times for the curtains to open before they actually would).

Since the Hub 2 is Matter Compatible, they now pass through the SwitchBot Curtains directly to the Apple Home App, meaning the curtains can be controlled directly through the Home App and/or with Siri. Giving Siri a command to open/close the curtains now works 100% of the time, and the response time is dramatically faster than the older (and inferior) Shortcut app method that was needed with the Hub Mini. This makes using the curtains, incorporating them into your HomeKit routines, and setting timers so much easier as it can all be done through the HomeKit app once you set everything up. The Switchbot App is still required for the set up of the hub and then passing the curtains through to the HomeKit app.

Only thing I found a little strange is that the Hub 2 ships with Celsius being its default temperature read out, which is great for most of the world but not us in the US. To fix, open the switchbot app -> click on the "Profile" button in the bottom right -> Click on Preferences -> Click on Temperature Unit -> Select F

Installed Jan 6, 2024 - I bought this Switchbot Hub 2 primary as an IR blaster to control an electric fireplace and an older Samsung TV in my bedroom to use my iPhone as the remote. Short story - works well, good app. Bonus: There are 2 physical buttons on the front you can use to trigger devices/scenes.

Longer story for enthusiasts:
Based on reviews of competing products, I am happy I chose this one, easily worth the extra money. Using the native hub automation you can use the built in temp sensor and set a threshold and corresponding action.

Ultimately I plan to do automation via HomeKit but assumed it would take some time before matter functionality worked. So for the short term, using Switchbot hub2 as the automation engine is simple and intuitive. Also the app works with Apple shortcuts on IOS. Widget sort of works, only scenes (switchbot scenes) show up so far, not devices. These are native switchbot devices/scenes, not to be confused with Apple home.

Apple HomeKit and Matter- I have done no research on matter, I keep hearing it is coming. I don’t care to promote or consult on it, I’ll use it when it’s ready. That said, I am pretty impressed so far:

Upon pairing with HomeKit (read the included directions, they are far better than average) the temp and humidity icons show up immediately in the IOS Home app. Matter seems to be working. It takes a very long time for IR devices to show up in the IOS Home app. Several hours. I have fairly old Apple TV series 4, this could be why it takes a while? Again, it’s worth reading the instructions. Far superior than typical instructions from other device manufacturers.

I am pleasantly surprised by this device. I never heard of them before yesterday!

I bought this because I wanted to display an outdoor Switchbot thermometer and it worked perfectly for that. What really made this great was the built in IR remote control feature. I was able to pair this with my tv and essentially program my remote directly into the app. A combination of remote button presses can also be combined in the app to make switching between TV sources automated. There are even widgets that allow you to setup these automations as a button on your phone home screen. Everything has been working flawlessly for the past 2 months. If you are looking for a smart temperature display by itself or pairing it with another switchbot device this thing really works great!

Hung mine up near my thermostat in my bedroom so I can tell at a glance where things stand in my bedroom. It's centrally located, making things really easy. And once my curtain bot got connected, it was easy enough to tell this hub to tell Alexa that it's there.

Of note, this device comes out of the box in celsius. To change that, go to Profile -> Preferences and - if you're not confident with metric, you just want fahrenheit, or you're a Real American Who Can't Stand That Darned Metric Conspiracy Gosh Darn It(TM)(R)(C) - set it to fahrenheit (and set area unit to sqft while you're there) - then go back to the hub and then resync. Or, if you want to learn what it feels like in a given temperature or you're in the rest of the world unlike me, don't do that unless you want to learn what 70 degrees feels like in America; I can assure you that it is not lethally hot, that's 70 C over there. =)
