In addition to handling my live mix, I bought this to also play backing tracks with it's wav file capabilities, but it turns out these are very limited at best. The UI for wav files is very clunky. Even after working in a specific project (directory), files you record during the session are not saved to the project, but to the main directory, and with an uninformative title. To do most of what I wanted, I found myself studying the xml file format and writing in modifications on my computer. This is faster than using the bluebox's file management. Micro SD must be removed physically to load/unload other wav files, or move files to their correct folder. In a DOS like interface, you manually find/ load wav files to a track (don't forget to save or you'll do it again next time). Too many small steps to get going with a project or be set up so that you have a painless session.
Features are still being rolled out that should have been tested and introduced off the bat. As an example, a new firmware update allows punch in, punch out times to be set, but only at the start of the measure (and only in terms of measures). Recordings can retain this playback position, but suppose you have a wav file for the chorus loaded onto your SD card. You cannot set a start time unless you manually enter it in the xml file.
Then the up front limitations started bugging me. It has input gain attenuation, but cannot support a microphone. MIDI mapping via USB works for many basic parameters, but few global ones. I could go on. None of these were deal breakers on their own, but when I realized I was only holding onto it for the built in FX, it was time to return the blue box.
