He came home a hero and lost the only woman he’s ever loved…

John

I have no idea how to survive without my beloved Ava. She had no choice but to move on with her life during my six-year deployment and has now married Eric. I hate him for taking her from me. I’d prefer to wallow in my depression and heartbreak, but the whole damned world wants a piece of the SEAL Team leader who helped capture the world’s most-wanted terrorist. I need help handling the relentless requests, and when Ava sends her new sister-in-law to manage the media circus for me, I’m prepared to hate her on principle. Her brother took my Ava. What else do I need to know about her?

Julianne

It takes five seconds to realize Ava’s ex will be the most complicated and difficult client I’ve ever had, but the opportunity to represent the most celebrated man in the world could make my career. I’m determined to do the job, even if I dislike John from the moment I meet him. And I like everyone. So much so that my brothers worry about me being exploited by those who would take advantage of my unwavering love for others. But John… He’s in a class by himself, and his bitterness is a festering wound that I begin to wish I could somehow fix for him. The more time we spend together, the more our mutual disdain morphs into something that feels an awful lot like desire. There’s no way I can want this man, or so I tell myself, and when Eric finds out I’ve developed feelings for the man causing trouble in his new marriage, well… That’s going to be a hot mess.

"Simply put: One Year Home made my heart happy. Through all of the ups and downs, angst and darkness, unexpected love and insurmountable odds, this powerful novel pulled at my heartstrings and left me breathless." A Top Pick from Sara at Harlequin Junkie --Mary @ Frolic Media
"After I read Marie Force's phenomenal Five Years Gone, I couldn't wait to read One Year Home, and it is all I hoped and wanted it to be -- a truly memorable, poignant and beautiful romance. I don't want to say anything else about it, in case you haven't read Five Years Gone, and you WANT to read Five Years Gone. You technically don't need to read it in order to love One Year Home, but it makes the experience so much more meaningful if you do. These two books have a permanent spot on my keeper shelf and will be read again and again for years to come." --Mary @ Frolic Media

"A fantastic read to me is when I finish and close the book and days later, I'm still involved in the story. With One Year Home (as well as Five Years Gone), I'm still deeply affected by the feelings from the journey Marie Force took me on. I'm not an observer of the story, I'm part of it. I'm right there with the characters, feeling all the deep feels. It's a moving, emotional, and character driven read." --5 stars from Comfy Chair Books

This one will definitely pull at your heartstrings and have you feeling every emotion under the sun and probably some you didn't even know you had. This story has me reeling from beginning to end. This will be one that will stick with me for a long time and I will be re-reading it." --5 stars from Cat's Guilty Pleasure

This was a tear jerker! I loved this story of forgiveness and moving on from difficult circumstances! Very uplifting story line dealing with loss and heartbreak.

Wow, just wow. What a heartbreaking, emotional, amazing journey back to life for John endures in this story. He lost everything, well all except for his life and that he even contemplates taking but can't because he won't do that to the love he lost during his deployment that last 5 years. He is broken, bitter, and almost completely checked out of life. He has returned a hero all thanks to a video posted by the enemy that turns him into a reluctant hero. The Navy won't retire him until he makes the rounds on tv to tell his story and hype up interest in joining the Navy. He can't do this alone and is drowning until he meets Julianne, his new PR person and his ex-lovers sister-in-law.

Julianne or Jules as she is known to close friends and family doesn't take his crap even though he is cranky as hell and scares her a bit. She is compassionate and has an inherent need to fix things. She sees that John is struggling with bitterness that is swallowing him up. She wants to help him, this broken hero who deserves so much.

Little by little she shines her light into his darkness. She is relentless and compassionate and a fierce protector when necessary. She meets his bitterness head on and replaces it with light.

This is an amazing story that gripped me from the beginning. It's a story that will change you. It is complicated, emotional, amazing, hopeful, and inspiring. Even though the characters are fictional they take on a life all their own and are very realistic. You can feel what the characters are feeling and Ms. Force has the ability to pull you into the story. I didn't want to put it down but when I had to for one reason or another all I could think about was what I had already read and how the rest of the story would unfold. It was an amazing story of second chances and the amazing gift of being about to find love again after losing almost everything.

I have to say this book was well written. If you want a book about trauma, and falling in love after a major disaster, I guess this book is for you.

Personally, I know it's fiction, characters were likeable and the story flowed.
It is well written, a continuation of Five Years Gone, buts its John's love story.

Spoiler:
John returns home after being gone on a secret deployment for five years. He just left a women he loved one day after being together for two years. She never heard from him again...(Read Five Years Gone) for that trauma inducing story.

He loved this women for over 5 plus years (during their relationship, and the time he was deployed- she never knew about his secret job or all the lies he told her to keep his job secret).
Upon returning 5 years later he wants her back, but she has moved on with her life after waiting 5 years for him.

In only 3 weeks, after he meets his new PR person, he falls in love with her.
It's a little unreal, but it is fiction.

Liked the characters.

Makes for a great tragic love story, filled with regrets, heartache and a chance at new love.

Hope you enjoy this story.

One Year Home was a book that had me not wanting to put it down until the last page was read. It’s a book about incredible obstacles and the only thing strong enough to overcome them…LOVE.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves reading stories about how the power of love can and does overcome even the worst that can happen.

“Come. Here.” Sighing with dramatic exasperation, she comes over to me. “You beckoned.” “Have a seat.” She sits. It’s not easy for me, but I slide off the couch onto my knees in front of her. “What’re you doing? You’re going to hurt yourself!” “No, I’m not. And what I’m doing, my sweet, difficult, gorgeous, utterly perfect Poppy, is asking if you will please marry me and make me happier than I already am, which is pretty damned happy.” Her eyes go wide, and her mouth falls open. I love that she didn’t see this coming. Sure, we’ve talked about getting married, but she had no idea today would be the day. “You, my beautiful, endlessly competent firewall, are the absolute love of my life. Spend the rest of yours with me?” I open my hand to show her the ring, and she gasps. I went with a stunner, and judging by her reaction, it has the desired effect. Tears run down her cheeks as she covers her mouth with her left hand. “John.” The word is muted by her hand, but I hear it anyway. I reach up to remove the hand from her face and slide the ring onto her finger. It’s a perfect fit, but I knew it would be. “Remember when you couldn’t find your grandmother’s ring that day?” She nods. “I borrowed it to make sure the size was right. I felt so bad that you got upset about the missing ring and made sure you found it the next morning.” She sniffles as she looks at the ring and then at me. “I forgive you.” “I also talked to your dad about a month ago and asked for his permission to marry you. He said I had his approval, but you were the only one who could give permission.” “You really asked him?” “I really did, and I thought you’d approve of his answer.” “I love what he said and that you did that. Thank you. I’m sure it meant a lot to him.” I kiss the back of her hand. “Do you like the ring?” She laughs as if that’s the silliest question she’s ever heard. “I love it. It’s incredible.” It’s a three-carat solitaire surrounded by another two carats in smaller stones. I kiss her again because there’s almost nothing I love more than kissing her. “As the one who’s usually in charge of the details around here, you’re missing a rather important one.” “What am I missing?” “You haven’t answered my question. Are you going to marry me and spend forever with me? Are you going to run my life and have babies and everything else with me?” “Yes.” She caresses my face as she gazes into my eyes. “Yes to everything.” I gather her into my arms, relieved to have made it official and to have pleased her with the ring I agonized over. “You saved my life in every possible way, Poppy.” “You like to say that, but in saving yours, I found mine.”

I absolutely loved this book, like all of Marie's book... John has a piece of my heart in where you were there feeling his pain, his strength, his fight, overcome a physical and emotional struggle. Jules fights her moral senses in who does she wants to go to and what makes her happy. Eric had to fight man who more emotionally than he thought possible, himself. Ava, fights for all, but more than all she fights for the man she wants above all... Emotion is a strong attribute in a person and Marie you have brought them in all four of them...... What a book, thought five years gone was epic, heartbreak good but one year home tops that. Love it, cried at parts. To think it could be somebody's reality from the wars in our countries is quite scary. Johns story touched deeply, Jules is beautifully smart, when she meets John Jules immediately sees more than the grumpy guy sitting in front of her. Eric Ava relationship takes some battering but glad they got a happy ending. John Jules find love when both are feeling lost, Jules doesn't see his weakness nope she sees his strength and love for one another, now engaged happy ending just awesome. Marie Force is absolutely brilliant author, not ashamed to say I've read every single book from her. I hope to read more from.John and Jules but if not knowing they are happy is enough too.
