  • HOMEMADE BUTTER | Make delicious, homemade butter with the Kilner Butter Churner. Simply place double cream into the glass jar base, attach the lid with the churning mechanism and turn the handle which starts to rotate the paddles. The buttermilk can be utilised for pancakes or scone mixtures.

From the manufacturer

The Kilner business was first established by John Kilner in 1842 in England. Initially producing glass bottles and jars, it was towards the end of the 19th century when the original Kilner Jar was first invented.

The original jar is as much-loved and successful now as it was 175 years ago. Its long-lasting popularity is owed to its iconic design and distinctive pressure seal. Households all over the world trust it to successfully preserve and pickle their fruit and vegetables.

In the 1900s, Kilner presented its innovation as 'the original and the best, all other brands are substitutes'. This claim remains relevant today and is a testament to its impressive heritage.

Pour 300 ml of room-temperature double or whipping cream into the Butter Churner and secure the lid.

Turn the handle and churn for approximately 10 minutes.

Watch as the cream thickens and turns into butter. Separate the butter from the butter milk. The left-over butter milk is perfect for making pancakes!

Place the butter into a bowl of ice- cold water and squeeze out any remaining butter milk using the Kilner Butter Paddles. Add seasoning or required flavourings.

Bought this because we love to make home made butter and it had great reviews. We normally just use a glass jar, add our ingredients, and shake. We thought we would upgrade our butter making skills and purchased this. It seems to take way longer to make butter in this. It does it's job, but way longer. We use this when we want to keep the kid busy, otherwise we just go back to using a glass draw and shaking.Overall, it does it's intended job, but certainly not worth the price.

We had another brand churner that quickly fell apart after 3 uses so we tried this Kilner brand and I wish I had bought this first. It produces so much more buttermilk and very thoroughly separates the butter from the buttermilk. It took way less time to cleanse the butter and it produces a better quality butter. I'm very happy with this purchase.

But the flavor is worth the workout. I will say that the only real glitch to churning your own butter is the difficulty in finding heavy cream that ISN'T ultra-pasteurised, at least in my area it's hard to find. The ultra-pasteurised cream simply doesn't want to separate, so I had to find a local dairy. That said, it does make a really flavorful butter and you can add any spice/herb blends to it. I'm glad I picked this up

I am used to making butter by shaking it in a jar until it separates -- and the temperature of the cream has not mattered; it still produced butter whether it was cold or not, so I disregarded the caveat to make sure to leave the cream out at room temperature for a while before using this device. Well, with cold cream I got nowhere. It took FOREVER and I eventually had to switch to the jar method of shaking it to finish the butter-making process. I tried it again after leaving the cream out for a few hours -- BINGO! I had fresh butter in record time. I don't know why the churning method changes the temperature requirement, but this is definitely an easier and quicker method of making fresh butter if you start with cream that's not cold.

This isn't against the seller, they were quick to exchange, but the factory packaging is terrible. There is a styrofoam support in the bottom of the box that hugs the jar and then a cardboard piece that's supposed to hold the top in place. However, the box is too tall, so if it gets upended in shipping, the churn slips out of the styrofoam and can then bang around the box. The first one I received had a cracked jar. The seller exchanged it very quickly. The second one I received was in good shape, but had slipped out of the styrofoam.

Overall, the churn is exactly as described and was easy to use. The butter turned out great and it was fun to be churning along and then *boom* butter. Seller was quick to ship and fast to exchange.

When I received my churn I was very happy with the results. I was pleased with my purchase. When I gave a bad review I hadn’t even received it yet. Thinking how can I give a favorable review. It’s not Kilners fault, it was the shipper. I should have waited to give my review until I received it.

I really wanted to love this butter churn. I’ve been making my own butter for years by shaking the cream in a jar, so I desperately wanted an easier option. This was to be the answer to my hopes but that’s just not how it worked out. The churn was easy to crank at first, but after the cream turned thicker it got increasingly difficult to crank, to the point that I eventually had to transfer the whipped cream to my jar that I’ve been shaking my cream to make butter. Needless to say, I was terribly disappointed in the churn. Besides all that, the nut on the handle kept vibrating off. I had to reattach the handle nut several times within the churn time. This may be a design flaw that could be rectified in production. Long story short, it’s my opinion that shaking the cream in a jar until it turns to butter is a much better way to make butter than this particular churn. It does look cute though if you want it to decorate your homestead kitchen.

Pretty darn cool, maybe 10-15min of minimal turning and you have butter (and butter milk). I wouldn't go dunking the metal parts in the sink or anything but the paddle can easily be hand washed and the glass basin is fine for the dishwasher just like a big mason jar.

Really cool.

The provided instructions were very helpful for a first-timer! The whipping cream needs to be whipped at room temperature, so leave it out for a couple hours before churning. Sugar-sweetened whipped cream is easy enough to make with this awesome jar, but for us, the butter was the end-game. After passing the whipped-cream stage, separating butter from buttermilk is near-instant! It was jaw-dropping for me how fast it was, as this was my first time making butter. It was incredibly easy and I would recommend this to most people with average wrist strength and up. Those with weaker wrists or with wrist issues may still use, but they will definitely need to hand it off to another during the whipped-cream stage as it gets thicker and harder to turn before butter transformation. In all, it made way more butter than I thought I would get, which was awesome! No more buying unsalted butter at the store when I can just make it right at home. The mess is non-existent, and the jar makes it easy to collect the buttermilk as well as rinse the butter. The mechanisms of the churner itself work very nicely so far, only having used it twice. Every gear turns correctly and fits perfect. During second use there is a squeak when cranking, but oiling has put it at bay. The jar and paddle are both very easy to wash, rinse, and sanitize.
