I travel frequently for business and am able to carry a week's worth of clothes, shoes, laptop, phone & laptop chargers, strategically needed cabling/tools, personal needs, exercise bands + associated handles and more without struggling to make it all fit; yet this bag manages to still fit in the overhead compartment on airliners + is extremely comfortable to carry long distances with wide, supportive straps and the means to compress the contents to aid in proper weight distribution.
Unlike many on the market these days, this 5.11 bag far from cheaply made, I absolutely feel it is priced appropriately, and I have zero regrets in my decision to purchase. If you're 'on the ledge' about whether to purchase this 5.11 bag, or not; go for it, I don't believe you'll regret it. Hope this review helps!

Having many other bags including Military issue I wish that 5.11 would learn that not all applications require the waist belt and make it removable like many military issued ones.
Otherwise, good bag.

Don't be fooled by the trendy colourful backpacks that may cause the younger generation to drool, they ain't gonna survive the slightest bit of normal wear.
I'm saying this from experience, I have kids who prefer the trendy variety. But if you're out there for real business, this is the one for you. This will be your best friend when you're alone in the woods, and have a miserable rainy day. It's arguably more faithful than your wife. This is the Swiss army knife of the backpack world.
This is the only bag on the market right now that has the combination of features that I was looking for.
First, it's made of extremely durable cordura fabric. That includes the shoulder harness and the hip belt. This was one of the features that I was looking for, and probably due to design considerations, there's an extremely limited number of brands that offer it. Most packs have the mesh format which I dislike for multiple reasons. Those are harder to keep clean (not only dirt but various plants with their sticky needles will get bogged in the mesh).
If you're a neat freak like myself, it will be a pocket galore. You have an endless variety of pockets that you can store your belongings in.
The extra laptop carrier on this updated model is also a killer feature. I used another brand (rhymes with the words: kennel tack 😁) for nearly 10 years and although I really liked it, I grew tired of its limitations.
Is bigger better? This one is just the right size. Not too big, not too small. When I carried about 30 lbs of various items, the padded shoulder harness spread the weight evenly and the hip belt allowed to secure it during running. First 7 kms of intense hiking, I didn't even notice the weight I carried around.
I usually take it with me when I'm flying commercially. It fits well in most overhead bins except in the smaller commuter type aircraft's.
And now the not so good:
It's relatively heavy. Not like a substitute for your dumbbells but it has some weight to it.
The buckles are rigid type, unlike my other brand I mentioned earlier. In most cases it's not a problem unless you live in the great white north. I predict some of them breaking when exposed to the frigid cold air when attempting to pop it open.
It's somewhat difficult to adjust the shoulder belt buckle when under load.
These are by no means a deal breaker just really picking on the niggly little stuff. I wholeheartedly recommend this bag for you whether you're the keyboard warrior type or the
Chuck Norris warrior type, you'll find features that you will love. Don't hesitate and get one today, this one has all the bells and whistles that you can dream of.
p.s. I'm not affiliated with the company and I paid for my backpack. This is my honest review after 6 months of (ab)use.

* There used to be a way to thread a tube from the rear hydration compartment through the back of the main compartment and up through one of the X slits either side of the carry handle, which had velcro'd tabs covering them when not used. This facility is no longer present. On the upside, the water compartment now has a two-part zip (rather than a standard zip), although rather than allowing a singe opening anywhere along the zip, these serve to open up from the bottom of each side! Maybe I'm overlooking something?
* The back of the main compartment now has a padded laptop pocket. This replaces an unpadded pocket with drawstring, but a zipped mesh pocket has also been lost.
* The front of the main compartment now has the same three pockets, but the top one used to have zips at the top and bottom of the pocket which was useful if you just wanted to open the top a bit and let the pocket flap down - the bottom zip became the 'top' which was handy but not the end of the world.
* The two side pockets have each lost two interior pockets, which will be particularly missed.
* The smaller zipped pouch on the front has lost an interior pocket, which was useful. It also a shame the opportunity was not taken to have a two-part zip rather than a standard zip, so the front pouch is now even less convenient to use than it was before with more risk of things falling out when the pouch has to be opened.
* The larger two-part zipped compartment on the front has lost two pockets, which were handy.
* Two drainage holes at the bottom of the bag have been removed. In my experience they were just as likely to let water in when the bag was on wet ground/puddle. Another drainage hole has been removed from the rear of the hydration compartment, which seemed to have a more useful purpose.
* New large velcro'd CCW pocket at back of 'shove-it' compartment (under the smaller zipped pouch). I don't have a CCW, but another pocket is always welcome.
