Impressive All Around With a Gorgeous Screen And Almost Silent Keyboard
A gaming laptop is a laptop that focuses on, usually, the following things over regular laptops:1. A dedicated graphics card that can play modern games, at least, on medium settings.2. A premium leaning screen.3. Better cooling when under stress.4. At least a mid-tier CPU.5. Various other design qualities that make it stand out (sharper edges, colorful lights etc.)My experience in gaming laptops have been mainly with Alienware (the latest being the 15 r2 line with the GTX 980m).Firstly, I am overall very impressed with this Acer laptop, in general. With every put together with the feel, the look, and the operation, I can say this is well made and it compares very well with the Alienware. Where it does not match the Alienware is in the case quality. As for the rest? The Acer is equal to or better on almost every level. Here's why:[---Screen---]Very vibrant and deep colors. Does not wash out greens/blues and looks very clear in pictures. There is a little grain on fonts and screen edges. Can be turned bright enough to easily work in sunlight with about 30-40% wash out in sunlight. Almost no angle diminishing, probably 2% if any ... at almost 180 degrees. This is a testament to the LG IPS screen. Therefore, you can work in the sunlight very easily with the brightness turned up, and regardless of the angle you are looking at the screen, the images stay the same with no angle 'washout'. Superb screen performance.Travel of the lid is about 140 degrees; does not lay flat.[---Case---]A little on the cheap feeling side. Not necessarily a bad thing. Does not attract fingerprints. Matte and rough texture like the lower end laptops you find in stores. The lid has the vertical 'line' pattern that are slightly raised. While the case feels roughly the same as, say, one of the lower end laptops in stores I say this isn't a bad thing because the design and build is so well done. The case doesn't flex, and the overall design is sleek, sharp, and...very good to look at. If you remember the line of Asus laptops that took their inspiration of the stealth bombers, this is similar, except think of this as a Jet-Stealth bomber, with none of the bloat.[---Weight---]Light for what it is. Will be fairly light in the back pack. Can be easily picked up with one hand.[---Size---]Typical size for a 15" laptop. Will slide easily into carrying cases/backpacks because of the thin overall presence.[---Keyboard---]Matte and smooth, does not attract fingerprints. A very light 'thud' sound that does not 'click' and does not clack. Extremely quiet to use. Quality is good and similar to Alienware. Better quality keyboard than most laptops you find in this line.Only one brightness setting for the backlit keys. Home and End keys are at the top, though the Home is above the backspace and End is above the asterisk. The PGUP and PGDN are together between home/end. A bit strange that they spaced out two keys between Home and End, however at *least* they didn't put the Home/End on the left/right arrow + Fn. This is a very suitable laptop for programmers as well.[---Backlit---]Backlit is a cherry red, with the WASD keys being outlined a little more in red. Backlighting is even and goes quite well with the overall appearance of the laptop.[---Touchpad---]It is difficult to find a fluid/sensitive/lag-free touchpad in any laptop not named 'Mac'. Thankfully, thankfully, thankfully the touchpad here is very smooth with no-lage. There are no separate 'click' areas, such that the entire touchpad is one solid platform. So, then, it clicks like a macpro. There is no left right click distinctions except for the 'left' side is left click and right side is right click.Extremely sensitive and almost up to the level of a mac. Usually touchpads are lousy on almost all PCs and this one is one of the best I have used. The clicks, however are hard to press. So they require a decent amount of pressure to use.*Negative* - When holding click and dragging a window, there is lag (like most laptops I have found).[---Noise/Fan---]Dead quiet for normal browsing, the fan runs a 0%.~* For Us Nerds: *~[---Drive Speed/Ratings---]via AS SSD:Seq:Read: 1297 MB/s | Write: 506 MB/s4k:Read: 27 MB/s | Write: 63 MB/s4k-64Thrd:Read: 101 MB/s | Write: 270 MB/sSeek:Read: .070ms | Write: .037 msScore: 830[---Graphics---]Runs games slightly above the GTX 970m and slightly below the GTX 980m.1911 Graphics MHz3904 Memory MHzGTX 1050TiUnigine Ultra Run w/ Tesselation and 8x AntiAlias:Temp: 59 CFPS: 35.4Score: 893Some FPS scores for current games:RE7: High 1080p: 64 fpsTitanfall 2: Ultra 1080p: 56 fpsBattlefield 1: Ultra 1080p: 50 fps[---Specs---]CPU Intel Burn Test:Stress: Very HighTemps: Max - 89 CCPU: Intel Core i7-7700HQ (Soldered onto the motherboard) (Skylake), 4 cores/8 with hyper-threading. 5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive All Around With a Gorgeous Screen And Almost Silent Keyboard
Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2017
A gaming laptop is a laptop that focuses on, usually, the following things over regular laptops:

    1. A dedicated graphics card that can play modern games, at least, on medium settings.
    2. A premium leaning screen.
    3. Better cooling when under stress.
    4. At least a mid-tier CPU.
    5. Various other design qualities that make it stand out (sharper edges, colorful lights etc.)

My experience in gaming laptops have been mainly with Alienware (the latest being the 15 r2 line with the GTX 980m).

Firstly, I am overall very impressed with this Acer laptop, in general. With every put together with the feel, the look, and the operation, I can say this is well made and it compares very well with the Alienware. Where it does not match the Alienware is in the case quality. As for the rest? The Acer is equal to or better on almost every level. Here's why:

    [---Screen---]
Very vibrant and deep colors. Superb screen performance.

Travel of the lid is about 140 degrees; does not lay flat.

    [---Case---]
A little on the cheap feeling side. If you remember the line of Asus laptops that took their inspiration of the stealth bombers, this is similar, except think of this as a Jet-Stealth bomber, with none of the bloat.

    [---Weight---]
Light for what it is. Will be fairly light in the back pack. Can be easily picked up with one hand.

    [---Size---]
Typical size for a 15" laptop. Will slide easily into carrying cases/backpacks because of the thin overall presence.

    [---Keyboard---]
Matte and smooth, does not attract fingerprints. A very light 'thud' sound that does not 'click' and does not clack. Extremely quiet to use. Quality is good and similar to Alienware. Better quality keyboard than most laptops you find in this line.
Only one brightness setting for the backlit keys. Home and End keys are at the top, though the Home is above the backspace and End is above the asterisk. The PGUP and PGDN are together between home/end. A bit strange that they spaced out two keys between Home and End, however at *least* they didn't put the Home/End on the left/right arrow + Fn. This is a very suitable laptop for programmers as well.

    [---Backlit---]
Backlit is a cherry red, with the WASD keys being outlined a little more in red. Backlighting is even and goes quite well with the overall appearance of the laptop.

    [---Touchpad---]
It is difficult to find a fluid/sensitive/lag-free touchpad in any laptop not named 'Mac'. Thankfully, thankfully, thankfully the touchpad here is very smooth with no-lage. There are no separate 'click' areas, such that the entire touchpad is one solid platform. So, then, it clicks like a macpro. There is no left right click distinctions except for the 'left' side is left click and right side is right click.
Extremely sensitive and almost up to the level of a mac. Usually touchpads are lousy on almost all PCs and this one is one of the best I have used. The clicks, however are hard to press. So they require a decent amount of pressure to use.

*Negative* - When holding click and dragging a window, there is lag (like most laptops I have found).

    [---Noise/Fan---]
Dead quiet for normal browsing, the fan runs a 0%.

For the price, you are getting a very good gaming laptop that allows medium-to-high settings at 1080p, with a very beefy CPU. Overall laptop stays cool even when under stress (89 C or below), and has a decent build quality. For general browsers, or semi-hardcore gamers who want a great keyboard, touchpad, and beautiful screen this has exactly that.

I'm a software developer that bought this laptop for coding in work hours and gaming in off hours. Been using it for a few weeks and overall I'm very pleased.

    ---BUILD AND AESTETHICS---
Build quality surpassed my expectations and I love how it looks. I find it quite light for a gaming laptop, weights around 5.5 pounds. Of course, there's that "gaming laptop" look that some people hate but I think it looks great. Never received weird looks when I pull the computer out when meeting with clients. But if you need a super conservative looking laptop maybe this one is not for you.

    ---KEYBOARD AND TRACKPAD---
I really love how it feels typing on this laptop (Doing it right now!) The keyboard looks great with its red backlighting and the keys have a nice texture. My only annoyance is that the arrow keys are not spaced out from others like in regular keyboards. The trackpad feels a lot like a Mac trackpad. You can use two fingers to scroll up or down, three fingers to browse all your active applications and four fingers to change desktops. It does take a bit more of force to right or left click than I'd like, but you can always use the soft taps instead of the buttons.

    ---BATTERY---
Battery life is acceptable, but it won't last you through a whole day. Doing mundane tasks like web browsing and watching some videos the battery will last around 4 hours give or take. Doing more demanding tasks the battery will last around 3 hours and gaming a bit more than 1 hour.

    ---PERFORMANCE---
Now, this is where this laptop shines the brightest. If you get the 1000$ configuration you'll get a really powerful machine. Coding in the most demanding IDE's is buttery smooth. I'm not a content creator but I hear the included i7 7700HQ it's great for editing videos. Also, the SSD it's wicked fast; Windows 10 only takes around 5 seconds to boot and applications load quickly. Perfect for productivity, which was the main reason I bought it. Do note that the SSD is only about 250 GB, so it will fill up quickly if you install many games or download a lot of media.

    ---GAMING---
I went for the GTX 1050 TI configuration and it can handle most modern games easily. Fan noise while gaming is surprisingly low. You can hear it but it is not distracting at all. Overwatch and Doom on Ultra play perfectly. More demanding games like Battlefield 1 will need to be toned down to High in order to get over 60 FPS. GPU crushing games like Witcher 3 and Far Cry Primal will need to be played in Medium for a really smooth experience. If you really need a laptop that can run every game on High or Ultra, I'd recommend going for a Laptop with a GTX 1060. If you don't mind lowering the graphics for some games then the 1050 TI is great for you.

Of course, there are some inconveniences. The screen, although IPS, could be better, the colors are not super accurate. There's no optical drive. The IO port selection could be better (No thunderbolt). Although the front panel looks great, it's a fingerprint magnet. These cons are understandable, as the manufacturer had to keep costs low on this laptop in order to stay at an attractive price point.

But overall, I think this laptop is great. Perfect bang for the buck.

I'm pretty much writing this from the perspective of a gamer who wanted to have something portable to play *most* of the stuff that I also play on my desktop at home. Having come from a 5-year-old ASUS RoG 17" laptop, it was a bit of a change, for sure, but in a good way. I got this when it was on sale for about $900 ... did a lot of research and this one seemed to be the best package for the price point. Since getting it in late September, I've had a great experience with it. Sure there are more powerful and pricier laptops out there, but for my needs, and in this "entry level" price bracket, I feel like this may be one of the best options.

    Pros:
    - Boots up lightning fast
    - 1050ti video card handles most modern games at high settings
(examples: Wolfenstein: New Colossus, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Overwatch, Fortnite, Fallout 4, etc.)
    - Screen has excellent picture quality and color
    - It is LIGHT (careful when opening the lid!) but build quality seems good.
    - Stylish red accents on the case and red backlight on the keyboard are attractive without overdoing it.
    - Drive mounting kit for extra HDD arrived very fast
    - Keyboard is more compact than some models but still comfortable

    Quirks (not really Cons, necessarily):
    - Video card can make the right side of the keyboard very warm to the touch (cooling pad recommended)
    - No external access panels; entire bottom has to be disassembled to add, remove, or maintain components
    - Drive mounting kit required to install a second HDD (kind of necessary with only 256gb stock)
    - Single audio jack rather than separate headphone/mic jacks
    - No optical disc drive (if you're into that sort of thing)

5.0 out of 5 stars Superó expectativas

4.0 out of 5 stars Todo perfecto, al parecer no puedo pedir más.
