Imperfect Saint (All Saints Security Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 231 ratings

Millie Turner is a master at compartmentalizing. She’s put her past in a box and she doesn’t talk, or even think about it. She’s managed to avoid her cheating, lying, manipulative ex-boyfriend for months. Unfortunately, avoidance is no longer an option. Her brother is getting married and his Best Man is none other than the ex that nearly destroyed her.

She doesn’t trust herself to spend an entire weekend in his presence. Not on her own. She needs a date, a distraction, a buffer, someone to keep him away from her… but she never expected her savior to come in the form of a saint.

Hunter St. James has been fascinated by the mysterious Millie since the moment they met. Despite his efforts to get her to open up, she’s kept their relationship strictly professional though. When their boss asks him to act as Millie’s date for a big family event, it seems like the perfect chance to get to know the girl that’s been keeping him at arms-length.

He thought a weekend of playing lovers would be all fun and games but he soon finds out Millie’s more than just mysterious. She has secrets and her picture-perfect façade is just as fake as their relationship is supposed to be. Only the more he learns, the more he wants to know and the less their relationship feels like a lie.

Can Hunter convince Millie to trust him with the truth? And if Millie comes clean about her past, will Hunter still want a future with her? Neither of them is perfect but maybe that’s exactly what makes them perfect for each other.

Jess Bryant is an avid indoorswoman. A city girl trapped in a country girl's life, her heart resides in Dallas but her soul and roots are in small town Oklahoma. She enjoys manicures, the color pink, and her completely impractical for country life stilettos. She believes that hair color is a legitimate form of therapy, as is reading and writing romance. She started writing as a little girl but her life changed forever when she stole a book from her aunt's Harlequin collection and she's been creating love stories with happily ever afters ever since.

Jess holds a degree in Public Relations from the University of Oklahoma and is a lifetime supporter of her school and athletic teams. And why not? They have a ton of National Championships! She may be a girlie girl but she knows her sports stats and isn't afraid to tell you that your school isn't as cool as hers... or that your sports romance got it all wrong.

Sweet and Savory and Spicy Saints
Imperfect Saint is the first novel in Jess' new All Saints Security Series. The main characters are Millie Turner and Hunter St. James (which you may know from another series of hers). Millie and Hunter both work for the amazing Lemon Kelly, my all time favorite character Jess has created thus far (be sure to check out her story in Call Me, Irresistible).Hunter has always had a thing for Millie and she's always shut him down. For professional reasons or personal reasons? Sometimes, even Millie couldn't find the answer. For reasons I cannot share because I try to never give spoilers and y'all know I like to keep my #SIPnopsis short and sweet (blog at shayallday.com to discover what a SIPnopsis is), Millie needs a date to her brother's wedding. The amazing (yes, that is the only word to describe her) Lemon sets Millie up with the perfect date . . . Hunter. Only Millie doesn't know it's him until she's packed and he's picking her up for the ride back to her hometown.Want:Hometown DramaExes suckFrenemies [I mean they weren't really enemies, but Millie was so not interested (or at least she acted like she wasn't)] to Lovers??Then Imperfect Saint is perfect for you!Eh. Eh. See what I did there?Seriously y'all. Jess Bryant's book was the breath of angsty fresh air I needed and I'm so excited I got to read it early and share my love with the world! Or at least the 15 beautiful people who read my blog. (we gettin' up there! stick with me!)*I received an ARC copy of Imperfect Saint in exchange for my honest review*

Book one in the All Saints Security series can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA. It is written in third person from a dual POV.

Millie has escaped a nightmare of an ex and has started over. She has regained control of her life. I really liked Millie. She blossoms over the course of this book and goes from seeing herself as a weak victim to a strong survivor. Hunter is critical in her process of recovery. He is amazing. He has liked Millie from their very first meeting when she turned him down flat. When he gets the opportunity to be her fake date to her brother's wedding, he knows he has to take the shot to make it real. His tenderness and encouragement to Millie is really special. He seriously made me swoon. I loved their connection. I loved how Millie feels safe enough with Hunter to be herself, even if part of that is rediscovering who she is.

There is a lot of heat mixed with tenderness and deep emotions packed into this book. Millie's ex is dangerous and tries to ruin their HEA. Hunter's brothers are interesting, and I am looking forward to reading their stories. I have read two shorter novellas by this author, but this is my first full length read. It was so good. I can see that her books have some overlapping characters, yet it was not distracting. Now I only want to read all the stories.

TW: Physical and psychological abuse by the ex on page and may be a trigger for some readers.

I loved Millie and Hunter's story. The right amount of intrigue, suspense, danger, family and sexiness. I didn't like Joshua at all. He was a manipulative, arrogant psychopath. I'm not really into reading about M/M relationships but in this story, it was just right with Millie''s brother Colin and his partner. I'm looking forward to reading Tyler's book. However I hope to read a book about the oldest Brother Vaughn.

I finished this book without really having strong feelings one way or another. Didn’t really love it or hate it. It was cute, but not particularly consistent with how engaging it is. I struggled to keep reading after the wedding because it felt like the book should have ended there. I didn’t feel like I was reading with any thing in particular to look forward to.

As for the characters, their personalities and relationships weren’t very memorable either. This is one of those books you know you will forget very quickly. Nothing really stands out, and I wasn’t super invested in them getting together.

Overall a decent read if you just really like the storyline.

One of my favorites of Jess Bryant’s, she handles tough situations with grace and compassion. In this one we meet Millie Turner whose brother is getting married and his best man is the man that her brother doesn’t know destroyed her by cheating and lying, to help her endure a tough situation (because she’s NOT telling her brother what her ex did and she’s not missing the wedding) she needs a date- here enters Hunter St. James- hot guy willing to be her fake date. Little does she know Hunter has wanted to get to know Millie better, this gives him a perfect chance, but the more time they spend together the more Hunter finds out everything is not what it seems, will Millie tell him the whole truth and let him help her put the past to rest once and for all? Check out Imperfect Saint and find out!

I really enjoyed this first read by this author. Our main characters Millie and Hunter were so, so good together. She was resistant at first but he was not a man to give up. I loved Hunter's alpha, protective personality. And it is just what Millie needed. I enjoyed the storyline with its ups and downs and curves. It definitely kept me page turning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Page Turner With Heat

What a beautifully written romance! It was third person (my favourite!) and kept the pace up from start to finish, having me turning pages without stopping. I read this in a day because I could not put it down. There’s some dark subject matter dealt with, but all in all it was a sweet romance between the two protagonists.

Hunter was a fantastic book boyfriend. He had me on his side within the opening paragraphs of his introduction. He’s a strong male lead, but with a gooey soft centre (for Millie) and the fact that he was invested in her from the beginning was such a delight to read. And the heat level and balance of sexy goodness with story development was perfect!

I loved the plot, and the way Ms Bryant slowly introduced the backstories and the side characters felt organic and not like an information dump. I am very keen on reading the rest of the series because I’m invested in their lives now!
