UPDATE! BROKE within a 10 months!
UPDATE: My monitor broke by itself within 10 months! Actually it could have been earlier but I disregarded the issues as bugs. Firstly the Thunderbolt never worked right. It was extremely finicky and would sometimes work when plugged into one laptop and not the other laptop. Other times the reverse would happen. I figured it was bad drivers of the laptops. Then the Thunderbolt cable completely died and wouldn't work with anything. I got a new aftermarket cable and it worked but still finicky. Recently the monitor would shut off randomly on Thunderbolt and flicker on and off repeatedly. Again I thought it was a compatibility with one laptop. Then, the monitor would do the same thing on Displayport with my desktop computer. I tried every displayport on my high end GPU and the problem persists. I even tried it on my motherboard displayport integrated GPU bypassing my PCIE GPU and I would get the same problem. Sometimes I would be working for hours and then it would suddenly ficker on and off, other times as soon as I turn it on, it would flicker on and off. The only way to fix it would to hard power cycle the monitor with the switch in the back. This is a $1000 monitor. It should be built better.I purchased two Asus PA329C monitors and returned them both. The PA329C is the cheaper version of this monitor also at 32 inches and 4k AdobeRGB but uses CFL backlight instead of LED and is much dimmer. At first I liked the PA329C because it included a SD card reader and extra USB ports on the side that the PA32UC did not have. However both monitors I purchased had several dead pixels and lots of trapped fibers under the anti-glare film. Dead pixels I can understand but filaments under the anti glare film seems like poor manufacturing.Hesitantly I decided to spend a little more for the PA32UC thinking that this is a more premium monitor and if Asus fails again I'm just going to give up on Asus for monitors altogether. Finally they delivered. The monitor is big, bright, and well constructed. Best of all, there were no quality issues for once. The screen is magnficent and bright. The colors are very rich and I am very happy with the HDMI, Displayport, and the thunderbolt ports. The thunderbolt ports especially adds a lot of versatility to my work and allows me to plug in my laptops for the big screen experience and charging at the same time. The good:The screen quality. The colors are very good and 4k on a 32 inch screen is downright beautiful. Text and graphics are super crisp and sharp. The brightness: The monitor is super bright and in a dark/dim room whites can be blinding. I have to play around with the brightness settings to a reasonable comfortable rate. The stand:The stand is great, it offers so much versatility for height, tilt, and and rotation. The stand is very high quality, metal and sturdy. It's a super attractive stand for any table. The bad:The thunderbolt 3 port only delivers a maximum of 60 watts to a laptop. While good for a slim ultrabook, a powerful laptop will loose power while in use even while "charging."As a few others have pointed out, the rear joystick is very flimsy and wobbly. It doesn't feel sturdy at all and they jiggle when you touch them, longevity may be a problem. The rear buttons as well need seem like a cheap afterthought and difficult to use. The overall joystick and button placements are not ergonomically placed for optimal use.The local dimming can take some getting used to. While it's awesome to have lots of local dimming zones, the "glow" of light items on a dark background is very distracting. While photo editing just dragging my mouse cursor around a dark patch creates a halo around everything. Additionally the local dimming is noticeably SLOW, when the scene changes quickly the local dimming can't catch up and there's a second where light areas are dark because the LEDs behind it aren't on. Although the local dimming does produce some excellent blacks, I wish there were better local dimming performance. It takes a significant time for the monitor to "warm up" or turn on. With desktops for example, if you wanted to get into bios, you need to hit "delete" and "f1" during the post screen. The problem is you can never see the post screen because it takes a long time to turn on. By the time the monitor turned on I was waiting at the windows login screen. I've tried turning the power saving settings to low and this still isn't solved.Overall I am very happy with the monitor. Some improvements would be better rear buttons and joystick, and I'm sorry that the SD card reader from the previous version was left out. However the Thunderbolt C port somewhat makes up for it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Has potential, but keep your box, as returns are a possibility
Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2019
I want to give this monitor a good review, but the build quality is too much of an issue to ignore. I've had and returned two of these monitors in about a week. My first monitor had tons of dust trapped between the screen front surface and the pixels. It looked like chunks of dust resting on the screen, but you couldn't wipe them off. There were also some dead pixels, but with 4k that seems inevitable and honestly didn't impact image quality nearly as much as the dust. The second (replacement) monitor didn't even make it on the desk. The directional dial on the back of the monitor had broken off and was loosely hanging, picture attached.

The first monitor, disregarding the dust, was absolutely beautiful. The color really is superb. The default sharpness is way too high, but otherwise it's stellar out of the box. You can tell the engineering that went into it is excellent. Manufacturing isn't meeting the engineering standards, though. Again, I want to give this monitor a good review. I'm even going to try yet another one and see if it finally merits the price. Until I get a model that works, though, I'm leaving this at two stars.
