About this item
- Stream music wirelessly via Bluetoot from your smartphone - Bluetooth is a short range wireless communication technology that is both robust and energy-efficient. The technology allows easy wireless connection to iPod/iPhone/iPad or other Bluetooth devices, such as smartphones, tablets or even loptops. So you can enjoy your favorite music, sound from video or game wireless on this speaker easily.
- Dual amplifier for better sound performance - Dual amplifier ensures enhanced sound performance by reducing inter-modulation between the woofer and tweeter, since each transducer is driven by its own dedicated amplifier. The result is deep and powerful bass sounds that have high impact without interfering too much with the higher frequencies so they remain pure and detailed. Utilized in combination with precise, active crossover design, better control on the phase and frequency response of each
- MAX Sound for instant power boost - MAX Sound technology produces an instant boost in bass, maximizing volume performance and instantly creating the most impressive listening experience with just the touch of a button. Its sophisticated electronic circuitry calibrates existing sound and volume settings, instantly boosting bass and volume to maximum levels without distortion. The end result is a noticeable amplifying of both sound spectrum and volume and a potent audio boost that will add mileage
- Audio-in for portable music playback - The Audio in connectivity allows direct playback of Audio in content from portable media players. Besides the benefit of enjoying your favorite music in the superior sound quality delivered by the audio system, the Audio in is also extremely convenient as all you have to do is to plug your portable MP3 player to the audio system.
- Digital tuning with preset stations for extra convenience - Simply tune into the station that you want to preset, press and hold the preset button to memorize the frequency. With preset radio stations that can be stored, you can quickly access your favorite radio station without having to manually tune the frequencies each time.

I lowered the score for the instructions. They are very minimal. It took a few tries to figure out how to program the FM radio and get the program channels to lock in. CD player is easy to use and sounds great. Blue tooth took a few tries to get connected also. Now that it's up and going, we are very happy with the stereo system.
So I first called Philips, who I thought was a good name in electronics. Lady told me to just view the manual online. I had wanted my young daughter to be self-sufficient in learning the use of the stereo. And there are plenty of functions like a sleep mode and other things that I wanted her to learn to use. So then I messaged Amazon and was told to message seller and they would get me a printed manual. Seller said NO. Now I'll never buy anything from seller PHOTOTECH!. They told me to ask Amazon, which I had already done. Sooo, I message Amazon again and get a wonderful lady who took all of this info, understood that I would like a printed manual for this $120 stereo and apparently has one printing and being sent to me. People need to wake up and not stand for paying good money for inferior products and then backing off from good customer service. If this were like $20 instead of $120 I wouldn't complain.
Then as to quality, it's really just mediocre and not worth $120. I'd have been better off just buying a countertop all in one (no separate speaker) cd player/radio like I still have in my kitchen. They're like $40 and easy to use. I'd return this but don't want to take back a gift to my daughter. I highly appreciate what Amazon is doing to get me a printed copy. I strongly feel that they shouldn't have to. Between Philips and the PHOTOTECH seller, one of them should have gotten it for me. I wish I had read more reviews when I was shopping. I had read a lot, but now see tons of people say they didn't get a manual. I guarantee you won't either if you buy it, and the one page quick start doesn't give anywhere near enough detail, so be prepared to keep going online to figure out how to use the features and make sure you memorize it!
The speakers are nothing special, but pretty good for a small size system. They are 6x9x5 inch and have a max. output power of 15 Watts. They are not super loud, but provide fairly undistorted, true sound at all volumes and don't sound tinny. It is equally good for spoken word, classical music, and pop/jazz/rock. If you're used to subwoofers, you may be disappointed because they don't deliver bass on that level, but that's to be expected. I have this system in my kitchen and I can now listen to music without getting annoyed at the bad sound quality. There is also a DSC sound enhancer that allows to switch between balanced, clear, powerful, warm and bright, but the differences are so small that you might as well forget this function.
The Bluetooth pairs easily. My android phone, my iPad, and my Mac laptop all connected without any problem. It is not password protected, so in principle, someone could connect from the outside, but with a range of 10 meters (30 feet), it is rather unlikely in my neighborhood.
Finally, the remote control is really well designed and neatly arranged. I read a lot of reviews of systems with tiny remotes or simply hard to understand remotes. This one is easy to use.
All in all, I am pretty happy with this system. It is the right size and sound quality for my kitchen (about 14 by 13 feet). And it has a pretty clean, simple design, so it doesn't sit in your house like some weird transformer toy (some compact stereo systems do look like that).
Edit: Upon playing an MP3 disk with an audio book, I found out that there is no easy way to get to the desired track. Such an MP3 disk has easily 150 to 200 tracks. The system does not remember which track you were at when you turn it off and later on again. So, you have to remember the track yourself and then push the forward button 80 times if you want to get to track 80. You can't punch in numbers. That's a huge disadvantage and I took off one star because of that.
