Zoom's EXH-6 expander module adds two more combo XLR/TRS inputs to your H5 or H6, allowing you to connect extra microphones or line-level devices like mixers and portable music players. It turns the H5 into a four-input recorder and makes the H6 the smallest six-input recorder on the planet!

Zoom's unique system of interchangeable input capsules allow you to always use the right microphone for the audio recording you're creating. The capsules snap on in seconds, allowing them to be swapped out as easily as the lens of a camera.

Zoom provides plenty of variety, too: Two different X/Y stereo mics for live music and concert recording, two different mid-side mics (one standard and one shotgun) for film and videography, two types of shotgun mics (one mono and one stereo), even an expander capsule that allows you to connect two additional external microphones or line-level sources.

I had my doubts about this but I needed additional inputs and did not want to spring for a new device. As it turns out, this capsule works just as well (if not better) than the on-board inputs on the device itself. If I had to nit pick…the capsule does not offer phantom power. The Zoom H6 is a fantastic item and works really well, but it only has 4 inputs (with the addition of the trs). This was a great addition to my zoom. It works great and takes the zoom up another level. Now I can add 2 more guests with no hassle of another external device. If you have the zoom H5/H6, I definitely recommend purchasing the DHX-6.

This expansion module works great when you need 6 XLR / TRS connections on the Zoom h6 which I use for recording live panel discussions.

The way I use it for a presentation video recording is to use all of the panel people's microphones run directly into my unit (utilizing these 2 extra inputs) and convert the 1/8" line back to XLR and send it to their system as a polished finished signal.

Pros:
+ pretty heavy build quality
+ quality matches the internal connections
+ secured connection to the Zoom h6 base

Cons:
- non locking XLR connections (this is one of the h6 design downfalls). It's not really designed with that level of professional use in mind. It'd be nice to have all your connections locked and never worrying that a sound guy might lose connection in his pocket...

This is a great add-on to the Zoom H-6. NOTE: It Will Not Send Phantom Power through these XLR connectors.
So you cannot use any Condenser Mic through these connections. I have 2 Tube Mics ( Groove Tube GT 67 ) with their own Power boxes going through these and It sounded Excellent ! So the sound quality is there.

Great addition to the ZOOM-H5. I only wish that the mike inputs were at the top, instead of on the sides. The mike inputs to the H5 are on the bottom, and having these on top would make for a long, slim footprint. Having them on the sides, requires more space in an already-crowded live recording setup.

this is an awesome unit...i bought this to replace my Edirol R4 and haven't looked back since it arrived. It is a very well made recorder with a very comprehensive feature set. the interchangeable mics are all very good quality and work seamlessly with the unit. i would recommend getting an isolator mount for it if you are going to use it on top of your camera as the mics will pick up every little sound your camera makes. i can't wait to record some music with this with multiple mic setup (so far just used it for ambient and single speaker recording, which worked great). i'm really impressed with the quality of the build on this.
