Peter Bowerman, multiple-award-winning author
The Well-Fed Writer and The Well-Fed Self-Publisher
"Arlene Miller's The Best Grammar Workbook Ever! is the most comprehensive and instructive guide to grammar that I've read in a long while. With authority and humor, Miller covers every grammatical concept you'll need to master your writing."
Jeff Deck, Co-author of The Great Typo Hunt: Two Friends Changing the World, One Correction at a Time
"Proud to say Arlene not only taught me about grammar rules I wasn't sure about, but she set me straight on things I'd been doing wrong for years and didn't know it."
Sharon Hamilton
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author
"There's much to admire in this comprehensive yet relatively straightforward book. I went straight to a terminology question I'd been thinking about (the difference between relative and demonstrative pronouns) and came away with a clear understanding of this difference. On pages 56-57, I think the writer does a good job explaining the "his or her" situation. It would take a very motivated student to go through this text without a teacher or tutor, but I feel that someone motivated enough to do so would come away with a very good understanding of grammar, punctuation, and usage.I think the examples of various rules are easy to understand and well chosen."
-Judge, 25th Annual Writer's Digest Awards
"I have always struggled with teaching grammar, and this has been a great start for me. I like its quick little blurbs of grammar with small practice opportunities. The students are engaged despite their resistance to grammar time."
Catherine B., teacher

The information is well organized, explained, and there are exercises offered to practice it. It's not trouble to look things up and gain a good understanding of each grammar rule as long as you already have a pretty good handle on things, in general.
I was really not impressed with the self-test in the beginning. While the terms of various grammar points are good to know, there was a huge emphasis on this, which for me, as someone who edits quite often, isn't exactly practical or helpful.
Also, I had hoped for more exercises to work on the various points, especially for my homeschooled child. Depending on the grammar point, there are more or less of these. But this is not what this book is intended for completely. At least, not done in a way which works well for my 9th grader, since it's a bit dry, extremely crowded (the printed pages do not include any real division between explanation and exercises, which causes a visual overload for anyone learning) Plus, there isn't any extra space for answers. It's just too tight for teaching purposes. Also, the answer key is at the back of the book (not really a problem), but this requires tons of flipping and searching. So, for homeschooling purposes, not ideal.
In any case, this is book holds a wealth on grammar information and fulfills its general purpose well, but it wasn't what I was looking for.
