Here are some specific observations:
1) I've had no issues with blooming. I love cinema and enjoy watching movies in a completely darkened room. I've made it a point to seek out content that might lend itself to blooming (night time scenes, outer space scenes, any bright light/object moving across a dark background, etc.), and blooming has simply not been a problem.
2) I find the black levels very deep, and the contrast very good.
3) Brightness is superb, and reflections are handled beautifully. Bright, sunny room? No problem.
3) Letterbox bars have been solidly black.
4) Subtitles are crisp and fine, and have not caused any noticeable fluctuation to letterbox bars or any other elements of an 'active' scene (I enjoy foreign films, and have been watching more programming with subtitles than without these past couple of days, and if subtitles in any way presented a problem, this baby would be on it's way back to Amazon, which would also be the case if there was any general blooming issue). Now, if you are talking about bright white titles or subtitles against a deep, ENTIRELY BLACK screen with no other content on it, you may occasionally see slight bit of surrounding light diffusion-or you may not, but this is a possibility with pretty much any LED/FALD TV. The point is, if your super-proactively looking for something, you will almost invariably find some element of what you are looking for, at the expense of simply enjoying the picture you're viewing. The bottom line is that in NORMAL viewing, you would not even notice these fleeting, intermittent occurrences. When watching real content (i.e, NOT sitting around over-analyzing the white titles on a wholly black screen), whether SDR or HDR, titles and subtitles are good and facilitate a great viewing experience.
5) Sound is surprisingly good! I could probably get away without a soundbar if I had to, but then again, my living room is a fairly modest size.
6) I actually like the somewhat-debated Android OS. It's wicked fast, and offers a ton of incredible, almost endless, platforms and viewing options. OS/TV set-up was a breeze-took just a few minutes, and I was off to the races. No OS problems at all, so far.
7) Simple, elegant design-signature Sony. I like the new feet (the 950G feet looked weird and oddly-duck-like' to me).
I made this purchase after many months of research that began last year, when my main Sony 'candidate' was the 950G. However, the serious blooming concerns (and other related issues) that kept popping up in almost every consumer and 'Pro' review caused me to hang back and see what 2020 had to offer, and I'm glad I did. Either I lucked out in the 'panel lottery', and got a unit FAR less prone to these issues, or, Sony took all the 950G flack seriously and took corrective action (judging by the majority of other positive reviews, I'd say that we're looking more at the latter scenario).
The only other serious contender for me personally was Samsung. A very different esthetic and viewing experience, but having owned a Samsung for the last several years, one that I enjoy equally to the Sony experience, albeit for different reasons. I finally settled on the Sony for a couple of reasons: 1) What I deemed to be Sony's far more equitable price-point, and 2) Lack of Dolby Vision in the Samsung (which ended up being the main reason actually). Note to Samsung: you are losing sales on account of no Dolby Vision. If you doubt it, just check the review boards. Whatever you are saving on the Dolby Vision licensing fee, is it worth the loss in sales? I imagine so, otherwise, it's simply a bad business decision. In any event, it's all above my pay grade to figure out, and I've got more important things to focus on, such as finishing this already over-long review-lol.
My one issue with my incredible new 950H is the junky, non-backlit remote. This has really got me (and a lot of others) perplexed. On the one hand, Sony sells me a killer FLAGSHIP LED TV with all the bells and whistles, huge functionality and picture and sound customization options for days-and then ensures that exercising any of this functionality on-the-fly (which I do quite often when changing channels, platforms/apps, etc.) becomes a completely disruptive experience because I have to stop and access a light source to make the slightest adjustment, taking me completely out of the experience each time. Even the 8-year-old Samsung the Sony is replacing has a a 'lit' remote (some kind of phosphoresence-very clever and effective, actually), and I am able to make virtually any adjustment(s) barely taking my eyes of the screen for a nano-second since the darn thing is lit, thus NOT taking me out of the experience by virtue of having to stop and turn on a light first, or try and see by the light of the screen, etc. For someone who turns the TV on and pretty much leaves the picture alone while watching, changing channels, etc., this is probably not so much of an issue, but I would venture to guess that that's not most owners of this TV. Adding insult to injury, the European version of this very same TV (XH95) comes with a beautiful, metallic, BACKLIT remote, actually worthy of this TV. So the question is, why has Sony created 2 classes of owners of this model; one with a plastic piece-of-garbage remote, and the other with the remote that speaks to the level and price-point of this TV? Who can say? Either way, not nice or fair, Sony, and it's a decision that I and many other owners (and 'Pro' reviewers) are scratching our heads over.
The best analogy I can think of would be if a car manufacturer sold me a Ferrarri-level sports car with all the bells and whistles--and then slapped 4 bicycle tires on it-yikes!
I personally think that Sony needs to make this right, and should issue a 'hardware' update to the American buyers of this TV in the form of the same (and far more appropriate) remote that you have chosen to let European buyers enjoy, much in the same way that you issue a software update when needed to fix something that's not right, because no matter how you slice it, what Sony is doing here is simply not right, and as I've said previously, all they have achieved with the cheap American remote is to mar an otherwise glorious piece of technology. If things are so bad in Sony Land that the differential between the cost of a piece of junk remote and the appropriate remote this TV and the viewer deserve will break the bank, then SELL me a metallic, backlit remote so that I am not forever tethered to something that, quite frankly, I have the urge to throw out the window just about every day. Given how frustrated I am with the present remote, It's a purchase I would be happy to make at this point (Sony, if you're listening, please FIX THIS one way or another-the buyers of your LED "Flagship" deserve better!)
This would have been an overall 5-star review, if not for the remote (sorry to have gone on and on about the remote, but it really is a really HUGELY annoying issue for me, that is having a real and negative impact on the way that I like to watch TV, which is to use all of the wonderful functionality you have given me with this model as I'm watching on-the-fly. And the sheer unfairness of slighting the American buyer vs. the properly equipped European buyer really burns my toast a bit. BTW, if anyone has made it this far and is still reading, I admire your fortitude, and thanks for reading, because as minor as this issue may seem to some, it's a real annoyance for others).
The Amazon buying experience and delivery went like the usual clockwork.
BTW, I also checked out the 900H, which has a LOT to recommend it, but being far more of a movie watcher than a gamer, I'm very happy with my final choice (except for the darn you-know-what!). I imagine if my 'user profile' was flipped to gamer, the 900H would have been a layup based on my research, so far.
The 4k UHD is nothing short of breathtaking, and the presentation/upscaling of other (mainly 1080p) content is superb. If you're looking for a bonafide 'home theatre', cinematic experience, the 950H is, in my opinion, a real contender, and more than worthy of consideration.
I hope this review has been in some way helpful.
Whatever anyone ends up buying, I think 2020 so far is actually turning out to me to be a much more interesting year in TV world than many would have had us believe.
Thanks again for reading!
(To paraphrase the great Mark Twain: Please forgive the length of this review; if I'd had more time, it would have been shorter.)
Lightweight and easy to set up. Menus are fairly intuitive to navigate and customize.
My PS4 fits underneath the display and has room for other things too. I have an NES & SNES classic under there as well. Design is very classy and minimal. The stand was easy to install, everything was up and running within minutes.
Apple Airplay works well. I streamed a movie from my iPhone (Apple TV+) in 4K and it was smooth, no buffering, and in HDR.
Upscaling is good. I watched an older movie on blu ray in addition to the movie made in 4K and it still looked great! Better than ever, actually.
Bluetooth is very nice. Used my Bose noise cancelling headphones and it was like being at a movie theater and I didn’t even worry about bothering the neighbors watching late or worry about tripping over wires in the dark.
Amazon delivery was first class. Free prime delivery and it came in one day!! DURING LOCKDOWN!!! Way to go, Amazon!! Thank you! The Amazon app gave me live updates when it would arrive and the delivery guy was nice.
Excellent shopping experience.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:
I just received this TV, delayed delivery.
The box was intact, so I thought, whew, it looks fine!
I assemble the legs, my girlfriend and I carefully lift it as per the instructions and common sense (NEVER apply pressure on a TV screen...)
The TV looks fine - but then I take a closer look - even turned off, I see some bubbles and ''lines''...
I still cannot turn it on, as it is still cold from the delivery. Fast forward about 20m later, due to the cold TV and some minor humidity in the room, some ACTUAL FINGERPRINTS ARE FORMING - I use a strong flashlight to see the defect and I see the fingerprints clearly.
Now the thing is, the TV was in a box, with foam cubes, some protection and bags and plastic all around it. So the damage was done in factory, as the delivery guys of whoever handled the box AFTER packaging never could've left smudges and fingerprints.
I'm currently in contact with Amazon.ca representatives to issue a solution, but very disappointed in Sony's lack of standards... Everybody knows you never exert pressure on a screen - it's even there, on plenty of stickers around the product! And it is impossible those fingerprints were left by delivery people or amazon employees, as again, there was a lot of packaging (cardboard, foam, plastic, etc) ''protecting'' the TV, so the defect was applied and the TV was broken before it was packaged...
I'm gonna take closeup pictures of the fingerprints as well if there ever needs an investigation ahahaha
...Not happy though!
