This was excellent.I will tell you right now, the first chapter of this book reminded me very strongly of American Dirt...go read just the first page of that book and you will see what I mean. It was brutal.Cristian was not born into this life, but once upon a time, he fell in love into it. Isabella Romano is the daughter of THE mob boss, and she's getting married at a mere 18 years of age. Cristian, her would-be groom, is a shoe-in to be her father's right hand man and the world is perfect...until it isn't. I really had to re-read the first chapter of this book because I thought surely I had hallucinated somewhere but no....it was brutal and this author pulled no punches.It's twenty-five years later when Cristian walks into a bar and his life begins again."You are my queen, Sienna," he murmured. "And I will punish anyone who tries to touch my queen," he vowed."This book has some INTENSE sexual...energy, chemistry, straight up sex?! Ok, well, all of the above, alright?! These two were raw and primal. They saw something in the other that they'd been starved for and it bounced off the pages. The author did a wonderful job of communicating this overwhelming sense of desperation they had for one another. In an evil way too. It reminded me of The Bad Ones by Stylo Fantome. Again, in this cookie cutter world of writing we are living in, I was so overjoyed to see an author who just totally went for it.And while we're on this subject, let me tell you about another thing I loved...a full on sex positive female in Sienna. Sienna is immensely turned on by Cristian from the get-go and is unapologetic about it. She was not a meek little flower in ANY way.And when the sh&t hit the fan and the secrets from years past started coming out, I was here for it. This book was a perfect blend of all that action packed mafia goodness and sexy steam.I loved every bit of it. All I am left wondering is...when and where is Felix's book?! Because that wedding night scene?! Chapter 19?! HOT DANG!
