Built-in Bluetooth® also makes wireless music streaming and hands-free calls easy.

Smartphone functionality, without wires

Without exceptional smartphone integration, a new car stereo just isn't as exciting or useful. Thankfully, Boss includes the very best in the BE920WCPA, with onboard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay that you can access with a wireless connection.

Android Auto (wired and wireless): Android Auto integrates the Android platform into your driving experience in a non-distracting way. You'll have voice-control access to Google Maps, weather, music, your phone, and text messages, plus easy access to many of your favorite apps. Get more info at www.android.com/auto.

Apple CarPlay (wired and wireless): CarPlay integrates your iPhone® into the driving experience, putting iPhone content at the driver's voice command with minimal distraction. That means easy access to your music library, your phone, messages, navigation, and many third-party streaming music apps, too. Learn more at www.apple.com/ios/carplay.

Plus, Bluetooth

Bluetooth enables wireless streaming for stored music, Internet radio stations, podcasts, and audiobooks. This receiver also lets you take and make calls while keeping your hands on the wheel — an awesome safety feature when you're making your daily commute.

System-building tools

This receiver makes a supreme car command center, with a 7" touchscreen display that delivers system control and displays media info. The BE920WCPA's rear USB port lets you connect a smartphone, or you can access your digital music library loaded onto a flash drive. Plus, you'll get inputs for two cameras and five ultra-clean preamp outputs for amplifiers powering your speakers and subs.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

You'll need a wired connection to your parking brake to access settings and other features on this receiver. Your parking brake must be connected and set in order to view video on its screen.

Android Auto & Apple CarPlay

Built-In WiFi: The Boss Elite BE920WCPA features built-in WiFi and comes with a pre-installed WiFi antenna for wireless connectivity specifically designed to support a cable free connection between your Apple iPhone or Android smartphone and the receiver. By supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto via a wireless connection, you no longer need to worry about taking your smartphone out of your bag or your pocket before you get into your car.

  • GPS Antenna: The included GPS antenna must be installed for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to function. The GPS antenna can be mounted inside the front of vehicle on the dash or pillar.
  • Cellular & Data Plan Requirements: Access to CarPlay and Android Auto apps will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone or Android smartphone to connect to the Internet. Your compatible Apple or Android device will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, LTE (4G), or WiFi.

Wireless Android Auto: The Boss Elite BE920WCPA receiver supports Android Auto with select Android smartphones using a wireless or wired connection. A Google or Samsung smartphone with Android OS 10.0+ or any smartphone with Android OS 11.0+ and 5GHz WiFi can utilize Android Auto Wireless with the Boss receiver using the latest version of the Android Auto app, plus a WiFi and Bluetooth connection. Android smartphones running Oreo 8.0 or higher can also be hardwired to the Boss receiver via USB and Bluetooth. Android Auto extends the Android platform into your car in a way that's purpose-built for driving and automatically brings you useful information and organizes it into a simple on-screen user interface. It's designed to minimize distraction so you can stay focused on the road ahead. Features of Android Auto include -

  • Google Assistant: The Boss receiver enhances your Android Auto experience even more by incorporating Google Assistant using the head unit's external microphone and your car speakers for voice command and text-to-speech, which makes using Android Auto and all of its integrated applications fast, easy, and safe. You will need to press the "mic" button or say "OK Google" to activate the Google Assistant. Use the Google Assistant to make a call, send a message, reply to a message, get driving directions, or listen to music.
  • Google & Waze Maps: Use Google Maps to get where you're going with on-screen maps, voice-guided navigation, live traffic information, lane guidance, and more. Select your destination by using the head unit's touchscreen or just say where you want to go through the unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology. You can even listen to music from your Android Auto device or other connected source device while using Google Maps. If you prefer, you can switch over to a simpler version of the community-based Waze navigation app (version 4.27 or higher).
  • Phone & SMS: With Android Auto you get access to your contacts and messages through the Boss receiver while keeping your eyes on the road. Use the unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology to make a phone call, or have your text-messages read aloud to you while you concentrate on the road ahead; you can even reply to texts via voice command.
  • Music: Access your Android smartphone's music library through the Boss receiver via YouTube Music. You'll be able to browse music like you do on your smartphone with song/artist information display and album art. Use the receiver's touchscreen to select songs or just say what song you want to listen to through the head unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology. You also get access to online music and radio stations from Amazon Music, Tidal, Pandora, Spotify, iHeart Radio, Slacker Radio, & Tune-In. Music apps include song and station browsing, plus song/artist information and album art or station logo. Click here for a list of all compatible app for Android Auto.

Notes:

  • The initial setup for Android Auto requires that your vehicle be stopped and in park or have the parking brake engaged.
  • If using a wired connection, make sure you plug in your Android smartphone to the BE920WCPA's rear-panel USB port labeled "Apple CarPlay/Android Auto" with a USB-IF certified cable (not compatible with the USB port labeled "USB/Charging"). Use a USB cable that is under 6' long and avoid using any extension cable.
  • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Android Auto is being used with a connected Android smartphone.
  • You cannot have an Android Auto smartphone and Apple CarPlay iPhone plugged in at the same time.

Wireless Apple CarPlay: Apple CarPlay is a smarter, safer way to use your iPhone 5 or newer in the car, while you stay focused on the road. Your iPhone can be connected to the Boss Elite BE920WCPA wirelessly via WiFi + Bluetooth or hardwired via USB. An iPhone 5 or newer (running iOS 9.0+) is required for a wireless connection, while an iPhone 5 or newer (running iOS 7.1+) is required for a hardwired connection. Apple CarPlay takes the things you want to do with your iPhone while driving and integrates them into the Boss Elite BE920WCPA. Apple CarPlay offers an incredibly intuitive way to make calls, view maps, listen to music, and access messages from your compatible iPhone through the Boss Elite BE920WCPA in-dash receiver. With Apple CarPlay, you can control these functions from the BE920WCPA receiver's 6.75" touchscreen or activate Siri for minimized distraction.

  • Maps: Through Apple CarPlay, the power and simplicity of Apple Maps comes to your dashboard; complete with turn-by-turn direction, traffic conditions, and estimated travel time. You can enter a new destination or choose a favorite or recent destination using the head unit's touchscreen or by simply asking Siri. CarPlay can also predict where you most likely want to go using addresses from your email, text messages, contacts, and calendars. If you have iOS 12.0 or newer on your iPhone with the latest version of Google Maps or Waze, you can choose to navigate via Google Maps or Waze instead of CarPlay. Google Maps and Waze do not support Siri voice control, but will have their own proprietary voice control function which has to be accessed through a touchscreen icon on the receiver.
  • Phone: With Apple CarPlay, you can use the BE920WCPA's interactive touchscreen or ask Siri to make calls, return calls, and check voicemail. To dial a phone number, simply tap the "Phone" icon and Siri will ask you who you want to call. Using the touchscreen you can manually enter a phone number from the on-screen keypad, scroll through contacts, or select from recent and miss calls. In addition, you get access to your voicemails via touchscreen and Siri. When a call comes in, simply tap the "Phone" icon to answer. You'll carry on your side of the conversation through the included external microphone, while the other party is heard through your vehicle's speakers.
  • Text Messages: Apple CarPlay also lets you enjoy a better and safer way of text messaging with friends and family when you're on the road, through the Boss receiver and Siri. Through your voice commands, Siri can send, read, and reply to your text messages so that you never have to glance at your phone while behind the wheel. When a new message comes in a banner will come across the screen and Siri will read back the message for you. Text messages cannot be read or typed from the head unit's touchscreen to prevent driver distraction.
  • Music Library: CarPlay lets you access your music in your iPhone's music library, plus Apple Music from the Boss Elite BE920WCPA. You can browse your music by Playlist, Artist, Song, etc.. just like you would on your iPhone from the BE920WCPA's touchscreen. You can also use Siri to find and play back your music. The BE920WCPA's touchscreen will display song/artist information, as well as album art in the background. Tap the Now Playing icon on the Boss receiver's capacitive touchscreen and see song, artist, album information with Album Art displaying in the background. From the Now Playing screen you also get basic playback function, like Play/Pause, Previous Next/Track, Fast Forward/Rewind, and Repeat/Shuffle.
  • Audio Apps & Podcasts: CarPlay also supports additional audio apps that you've downloaded to your iPhone for enjoying music, podcasts, sports, news, and audiobooks - including Pandora, Tidal, Spotify, iHeart Radio, TuneIn Radio, Slacker Radio, Vox, Stitcher, MLB.com At Bat, CBS Radio News, NPR One, OverCast, Audiobooks.com & Audible (subscriptions and fees may app). Control them from the head unit's touchscreen or Siri just like you would from your iPhone. Your iPhone's touchscreen remains unlocked during CarPlay connection, so you are able to access additional music apps and listen to them through the Boss receiver; however these apps offer no control or display information from the head unit's touchscreen.
  • Apple HomeKit Compatible: CarPlay now supports control of Apple HomeKit enabled devices (sold separately) through Siri. Using CarPlay in your vehicle, you can ask Siri to close or open your garage door, turn on or off home lighting, increase or decrease the temperature of your thermostat, as well as control select functions of other Apple HomeKit enabled devices and appliances. Click here for a list of compatible Apple HomeKit products.
Notes:
  • Apple CarPlay is compatible with iPhone 5 or newer running iOS 7.1 or newer.
  • If using a wired connection, make sure your plug in your iPhone 5 or newer to the BE9ACP's rear-panel USB port labeled "Apple CarPlay/Android Auto" with an Apple certified Lightning-to-USB cable (not compatible with the USB port labeled "USB/Charging"). Use a USB cable that is under 6' long and avoid using any extension cable.
  • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Apple CarPlay is being used with a connected iPhone.
  • You cannot have an Android Auto smartphone and Apple CarPlay iPhone plugged in at the same time.

Smartphone Charging: The Boss Elite BE920WCPA will also charge (5V/1.5A) your Android Auto compatible Android smartphone or Apple CarPlay compatible iPhone while connected via USB with the vehicle's ignition switch set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position.

USB Cable Note: If you'll be using a wired USB connection, then use a cable that is under 6' long and avoid using any extension cables.

Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth 4.2+EDR: The Boss Elite BE920WCPA is equipped with built-in Bluetooth 4.2+EDR allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

Secure Simple Pairing: With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the Boss head unit without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. You can pair up to 5 devices, but only 1 device can be connected and used at a time. When an already paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically connects the unit.

Hands-Free Communication (External Mic): The Boss Elite BE920WCPA allows for wireless communication between the head unit and your Bluetooth enabled smartphone. Thanks to the latest Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.6) with wideband speech capability, the BE920WCPA provides more natural sound quality and details during wireless calls. The receiver will display the caller's phone number and an audible ring tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker during an incoming call. You can manually answer or end a call through the head unit's front-panel controls (or set the receiver to automatically answer the call). The BE920WCPA allows you to carry on the phone conversation using the included external microphone and your car audio speakers. Your music will mute automatically during a call. You can make a call using the Boss receiver's LCD touchscreen via its on-screen keypad, your phone's transferred phonebook, or a list of your most recent calls.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The Boss Elite BE920WCPA allows wireless play back of stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth enabled smartphone, tablet, or other device using a Bluetooth connection. You can control basic music playback functions, like Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track from the Boss head unit (advanced music browsing will still be done from your Bluetooth source device). The unit will also display song/artist information (no Album art).

Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.
USB/microSD/AV Connectivity

Q
How do I reset boss be920wcpa?
michael  May 04, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Michael. Thank you for your question. There is a small reset button below the SD card slot on the lower left corner. Use a pin or paper clip to press that in. That will reset to factory default settings.
hogan  May 04, 2024 (Staff)
Q
Does it record video when you connect the cameras like a dash cam?
german  Apr 14, 2024
1 answer
A
Hey German, this radio does not have any recording capabilities onboard so all recording will be done on the dash cam connected to this unit. Assuming the dash cam has a video output, we can connect to one of the video inputs on this Boss and view that camera but that would be the extent of our control with the radio.

Greetings Robert. Thank you for your questions. this vehicle is a bit more complicated than the average vehicle. You will lose some of the factory features. Satellite radio, the Aux input, the USB input the factory center channel speaker if equipped, and also the amplifier that runs the factory subwoofer will all be lost. Radio controls on your steering wheel can be retained with an extra interface we have available. The adapting harness we have for the TL would also need the installer to splice in the rear channel speaker wires to get those working again in the vehicle. lastly if you meant to say aftermarket subwoofer, that will need to have an amplifier installed as well.

Q
I own a 2010 Acura TL base model and this radio fits my car, my question is with installing it will I be able to connect it to all of my factory speakers and my afternoon subwoofer I recently installed. If I cant with just the kit what other amps would I need?
robbie  Jan 23, 2024
1 answer
A
When using the install packages with our online Vehicle Guide in the link below Robert, you can retain steering wheel audio control buttons with some hardwiring and the factory amp, but you cannot keep the factory subwoofer working. The Boss BE920WCPA does have preamp outputs for connection to a subwoofer amplifier. If you need to make sure you get the right amp and install accessories for your project, do not hesitate to give us a call at 1-800-324-9695 and a live Advisor would be happy to help place your order with everything you need for your custom setup! https://www.crutchfield.com/m_266150/Car-Stereos.html

Q
Will this product work with OEM Camera for Subaru 2011 Outback that has camera display in rearview mirror?
james  Jan 21, 2024

That is a great question, James. If installing the Boss Audio BE920WCPA in your 2011 Outback and using an iDatalink Maestro installation interface, the factory backup camera is retained. Make sure to enter your Subaru's details into our online Vehicle Guide in the link below, select the Boss BE920WCPA radio, and we will pair the right installation accessories and list all retained features. If you need any help choosing your install package or getting your order placed, do not hesitate to call us at 1-800-324-9695 and a live Advisor would be happy to help! https://www.crutchfield.com/m_266150/Car-Stereos.html

Q
Can you buy the wires that connect to the back of the stereo separately? I've already bought the stereo and the separate wiring harness I just need a new set of speaker wires from the radio
zavien  Jan 10, 2024
1 answer
A
We do not sell individual Boss accessories that are included with the radio at purchase, Zavien. If you need the included output harness, reaching out to Boss directly would be the best option to source it.

Q
will this work with the side mirror and regular backup cameras in a Thor Vegas 24.1?
larry  Jan 07, 2024
1 answer
A
We cannot confirm any installation details or retained features for motorhomes, Larry. In many cases there is a separate camera control system used in vehicles like your Thor Vegas 24.1 that handle the camera switching and convert the camera signals to a single video input to be used with aftermarket radios like the Boss Audio BE920WCPA. If you currently have an aftermarket radio installed, it's possible those features can be retained when swapping in the Boss radio. Please give us a call at 1-800-324-9695 with the model of your current radio and any information you can give us about the camera system on your motorhome. We would be happy to help determine as much retained features information as we can if you are looking for a radio upgrade!

Q
Do you need to buy a separate installation kit?
marc  Dec 09, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Marc. Thank you for your question. Aftermarket stereos are universal. They can go in most vehicles, but yea, you are going to need an installation package unless you already have a similar aftermarket stereo in your vehicle now. If its still the factory radio in now, you will be needing installation gear.

Q
Is there a recommended camera for the backup camera? I saw in another user question that a user was having difficulty with brightness and the reply was "not all cameras are created equal."
steven  Dec 06, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Steve. Thank you for your question. That could have been me. As they are not. Some are made with inexpensive image sensors, some are not all that great in low light. Very low LUX spec offers better image in low light. Two main image sensors found in backup cameras are CMOS, and CCD, Typically the CMOS is better for imaging. So, I would be looking for a CMOS sensor, and low LUX.

A
If you are Connected with Apple Carplay, you can control this in Google Maps by pressing the screen to bring up the settings menu icon, Richard. Tap the settings menu icon and then select volume and adjust to your liking for voice prompts. The settings menu should also be available if you are using Android Auto, and the steps should be similar. I hope this helps!

Q
Can you adjust the brightness on the backup camera screen?
matthew  Sep 27, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Matthew. Thank you for your question. There is a screen brightness adjustment setting, but its not specific to just the camera input, but the screen in general. If the stereo screen is bright, but the camera screen is a lot dimmer, it could be the fault of the camera. Not all cameras are created equal.

Can I use my OEM mic instead the aftermarket mic that they supply?

Has anyone figured out how to use your own files for wallpaper? The manual makes it sound like you can from a USB, but there are no instructions and I can't make it work.
