The Secret Heir (Alinthia) Paperback – May 10, 2018

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 1,135 ratings

Is it her destiny to save them … or destroy them?

Now that Tori finally understands who she is and what’s expected of her, she’s in full-on freak-out mode. How will she save the galaxy from General Arantu’s clutches when she can’t even control her powers?

Add that to the lack of retaliation by enemy alien forces, and everyone is on edge. Especially when they uncover evidence of a strange alien symbol with possible links to humans, and the mystery deepens.

But that’s not the only thing keeping Tori awake at night.

Confused over the horrific vision she experienced the night of the Herassan attack, Tori is terrified of revealing details of her protectors’ supposed fate, so she says nothing. Keeping stuff hidden never ends well, and as evil forces conspire against Tori and her four protectors, secrets and lies threaten to destroy everything they hope to achieve.

While Tori grows closer to Coop, Maddox, and Beck, Dane remains distant, creating more tension and jeopardizing their bond.

Then an unexpected newcomer arrives, casting suspicion over everything they believe they know.

When Tori finally figures out what’s going on, will she have time to warn the guys? Or is their fate already sealed?

The second book in the captivating Alinthia series is intended for readers aged seventeen and older. This is upper YA/NA crossover reverse harem paranormal romance which gets steamier as the series develops. This book ends with a cliffhanger and cannot be read as a standalone. 92,000-word full-length novel.

From the Inside Flap

"That's enough." I plant myself in between them, forcing Zorc to back up. "I don't care what Dane has allegedly done, you have no right to speak to him like that."
"With the greatest respect, Alinthia, you have no say in this." Zorc attempts to rein in his anger, but he's doing a shitty job of it. I know Dane has a habit of irritating people to the point of rage--yours truly included--but Zorc is supposed to be a professional, and this is not the way to handle it. If there's one thing you can't fault Dane for, it's his work ethic, and how seriously he takes his role, so I'm fucked if I'm going to let anyone openly criticize him in such an unprofessional manner.
"I beg to disagree." I level a grave look at him. "Dane is
my protector, joined to my life force, bonded with me for eternity, and that means he's my family, my everything. I protect my family, and I won't stand by and have anyone treat any of my boys so horribly. Dane is the consummate professional, and he takes his role very seriously. If he messed up, it wasn't on purpose, and he deserves more respect than you're showing him right now."
I plant my hands on my hips, boring a hole in the side of Zorc's skull with a razor-sharp look. "Still think it's none of my business?"

The Secret Heir starts off right where The Lost Savior ends and continues on with this great plot line. Again, this series is a paranormal/sci-fi reverse harem and if you have never read anything within this genre (reverse harem), you are definitely missing out on some great stories.

Tori is coming to grips with her identity and her powers. As she is training with Maddox, she is trying to learn more about everything from Dane but ends up butting heads with him more than anything. On top of that, she is trying to help Coop with his jealousy and pull Becket out of his shyness. Tori is attracted to each of them individually and their own reactions to Tori is what helps push this story forward. They all play an intricate role in what is to come.

I won't give away any plot points as this is a book (series) that the reader needs to experience everything first hand by themselves. Siobhan takes us on a journey that is not only entertaining but intriguing. You find yourself wanting to get to know these characters more as we learn more about them and how things came to be.

Siobhan's writing style immerses you into the world she has created. There is no slow down with the twists, action and suspense she brings. There's a lot that goes on, but not once do you feel lost - you just see the bigger picture being put together slowly. And in true Siobhan style, she leaves us reeling with a cliffy that has us begging for the next book NOW.

After reading the first book in the series, I was excited to dig into this one. While the first book ends with tension, this one starts out slower. First, the story delves more into the relationships and lets the romance side take over. Alinthia fosters her relationship with each of the four heroes at a very individual rate. This allows the reader to get to know each of the characters better and deepens the bond between them. Still, all of her relationships have one direction and goal. Considering she's only seventeen (a YA) and finding nothing wrong with several intimate partners at the same time, this bothers a bit. Not only that, but with the intention of bringing all four guys to the same level, the relationships loose a little surprise and begin to feel forced down a certain path.

That said, the characters are all wonderful and have individual flair. Each one carries their own personality and secrets, making each one a treat to know. The group comes across fairly natural. Especially when the action and story kicks back in about a third of the way in.

As far as the space adventure, when the story gets going again, it holds exciting twists and turns. As the 'aliens' are brought more into light, so are their intentions and even the intrigue among them. Nothing is as clear-cut as it appears, which means all heroes have their hands full. It will be fun to see where this all goes next.

I always thought that I liked one girl with more than 1 guy, but I still refused to give in to RH series, as they usually left me wishing heroine had chosen only one guy at the end. Looks like I am more conservative than I thought.

The book is RH YA book about humans and aliens. Taking into account fact that I love most of the Siobhan Davis’ books, I tried the first book in the series. In that book I did not like 2 things - first, the RH thing and second - the slow pacing. So, feeling guilty, I gave the book 3 stars and held away from purchasing anything with RH connected. Anyway, I could not keep myself away for anymore longer and bought this book. The story revealed rather slowly and I found myself strugling with Tori’s relationship with Cooper and Beck. What surprises me is that I do not hate RH, I just do not like clingy and jealous guys as well as too shy (even nerd type) guys. I loved Maddox and their chemistry as well as I absolutely adored Dane and his twisted ways. I suppose I have a type 😂

Anyway, the book ended on a fantastic cliffhanger and I am moving onto the second one. And the way how the story revealed - wow, I like it a lot.

Just a WARNING - if you do not like RH and are not willing to try for the author’s sake (as I was due to my fanatic reading of Siobhan’s books), then just do not try this one too, because there are still a lot of mature content between the heroine and her guys.

I was really lucky to read a BETA version of this book.

Reverse Harem is a new genre for me, but I was willing to try it because I love all of Siobhan's work. I'm really glad that I took the risk, because I loved the first book in this series, just like I love all of her work. I was so upset when the first one ended. I just wanted the rest of the story and I wanted it right there and then!

I was really excited for book 2, The Secret Heir. As always, Ms. Davis did not disappoint. I love her writing. I love how it draws me in. Within in a few sentences, she has me hooked in, and I am home. There is something so truly delicious about the comfort of picking up a book by a favorite author and knowing the writing will be superb.

I really liked getting to see more of Alinthia/Tori's relationships with each of the boys. In particular, I loved getting to see the interactions between Tori and Beck, because he is my favorite. There is something about that shy boy that is just so gosh darn cute, I can't resist it!!! Dane drove me crazy, but in a good way, the way where you are mad at a character because they're driving you crazy, but you wouldn't actually change it, because it's in line with who the character is.

There are some really surprising things that happen in this book. I was in suspense almost the entire time I was reading this book.

The ending nearly killed me and I can't wait to see what happens next. If you liked the first book in the series, I would definitely recommend The Secret Heir!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read RH Series
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 30, 2018
The Secret Heir is book 2 of the Alinthia series by Siobhan Davis and is the continuation of Tori’s story along with Cooper, Beck, Dane and Maddox.

Siobhan Davis has done it again. This is a great addition to her new RH series and she keeps the readers on the edge of their seat as she gives us plot twist after plot twist. Just when I thought I'd got it figured out and knew what was coming next, she'd throw in a surprise that had me gasping or my stomach dropping. Despite having read several of Siobhan Davis’ books, I'm still in awe of her work and how she creates amazing stories that has the reader unable to stop reading and wanting to jump straight into the next book.

We get to know the four guys, Cooper, Beck, Dane and Maddox, better in this book and I still can't decide which I prefer, so I'm gonna take them all please lol. Each of the guys appear to settle more into their individual roles within Tori’s life in this book. I like how Siobhan Davis has created each of them to have their own characteristics and meet different needs within Tori whose life has changed so much. Things start to heat up between Tori and the guys in this book and the pace things develop is balanced so well with what else is a happening in their lives.

As I now expect from Siobhan Davis, The Secret Heir ends with a cliffhanger and it's torture having to wait for book 3 as I have all these possibilities running around in my head about what could happen next. I've got questions I'm desperate to ask but I know I need to wait and the waiting, like it always is when it comes to a book from one of my top 10 authors, will be worthwhile.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a suspenseful read!

Great to see a natural progression in the relationships between Alinthia/Tori and her boys. Nothing seems rushed, and the fact that all four of them have their own unique personalities helps keep each relationship individual - with Beck being the shy considerate one, Maddow the overly protective one, Cooper the fun loving one, and Dane the super strict one. This book really takes us for a ride as Alinthia starts to learn more about her heritage and her powers, trying to make sure she can hold her own when the time comes. But in comes a huge twist that I did not see coming and I'm just left wondering... How will the boys help Alinthia now?

I voluntarily reviewed an advance complimentary copy of this book.

What a rollercoaster this one was for Tori and her guys. And all those twists and turns - just when I thought I had it figured out, something else would pop up out of nowhere and blow my theory out of the water.

I loved that the relationship between Tori and her protectors continued to progress naturally. There was no forced intimacy, or anyone feeling pressured into doing something they weren't ready for. While the ending was a massive cliffhanger, I did like that it resolved a lot of the questions raised throughout the book as well - I feel like everything that was up in the air has been resolved in a very good way, and now it's just a case of wanting to know what happens next with how things were left.

**Spoiler Alert for this next bit**
That said, I did feel there were some inconsistencies in this one as compared to the first - like in the first book they told Tori they teleported from planet to planet and didn't need spaceships, and yet in this one they have a spaceship for transport between planets; the curse on Tori came out of nowhere as well - wasn't mentioned in the first book but is then linked to both the situation with Jake and also her original encounter that left her poisoned. This book started with Beck updating Tori on a search for the cure, so that came out of nowhere.

In short though, I'm enjoying this series and can't wait for the next one!

The secret Heir was a real page turner that I devoured in two days! I just had to find out what was going to happen next. I loved that it was action packed and kept me guessing! I’m having a hard time liking Dane, he blows so hot and cold and makes awful choices but I love the other Cooper, Maddox & Beck. After the cliff hanger this book ended on I am excited to find out what happens next
