Tori is your typical All-American girl, except that she most definitely is not. High school senior, good grades, good group of friends, athlete, in love with the boy next door. Perfectly normal until a random encounter triggers her unknown heritage complete with superpowers, alien assassins, and a devoted group of protectors. This is a unique twist on Superman. Smalltown USA has unknowingly been the home to a girl who might save us all.

Siobhan Davis is one of my favorite contemporary authors. Reverse Harem is my favorite genre. For me, this is a match made in heaven or better yet on a distant planet. Told in Tori's POV we are with her every step along the way of her new adventure. We get glimpses of her past as they start to unlock through dreams and visions. Tori is a likable, relatable lead female. She's smart, sweet, strong (all the good S's). She's madly in love with her boyfriend and has a strong group of girlfriends with a fantastic bestie. Tori is confident in who she is and what she wants so when everything she has ever known about herself turns out not to be the entire truth her world is rocked but she handles it with as much grace as possible. She does this while dealing with a jealous boyfriend and normal high school drama. When overwhelmed she is not weak or whiny. I love that about her. She makes some missteps along the way but all-in-all she does the best she can. The guys are gorgeously fantastic. Flirty, fun Cooper; muscle-bound, yet insecure Maddox; shy, intelligent Beckett; and their cold leader, Dane with his distrust and harsh, hurtful words. There is an instant attraction that confuses Tori but she loves her guy and she's no cheater. That doesn't mean that the guys will just walk away once they find her. They have a duty towards her; their whole life is for her. If she is who they believe her to be, that is. Tori's life-long friends are not so bad themselves. Jensen, her boyfriend is everything you want in a guy, cute, smart, sweet, and devoted. Her best friend Kylie is exactly what every girl needs; the sister that has her back no matter what. The others round up the typical high school experience.

We get a tantalizing glimpse of the alien worlds. History, character powers, and world-building are put in place to make a solid foundation. Siobhan is a master at soft sci-fi. We get a few creepy aliens but they are only the foot soldiers. We learn why Tori is important, why she is sought after, and who wants her but we don't meet the bad guy...yet. In true Siobhan fashion, there is a cliffhanger. It's disturbing and worrisome on a couple levels. While I would love for book 2 to be able to focus only on Tori getting closer to the guys and building relationships, I know that they will be tested. They will get closer, they will face battles. I just hope that they are all on the same side!

This is a 3.5, leaning toward 4. I had a really hard time deciding how to rate this book.
As far as most the reverse harem books I've read, this one is definitely near the top of the pile, but there were so many tropes and some things REALLY caught my attention.

Davis does a great job of writing a compelling story, but she falls into a trap of her own making every now and then.  There are tropes (hidden alien who needs to be awakened to know her own powers) that Davis makes her own with an awesome story line.  However, then she seems to take well-known plot points (Superman, Star Wars) and leaves them as she finds them, which made me frustrated and annoyed.  She could have eliminated this irritation by simply taking the idea and making it her own instead of simply co-opting it for ease of furthering the story.

The maturity level of the MC bothers me.  She seems REALLY young and sheltered.  She definitely does not mature enough for anything other than dating a football player until the end of 1st semester in college when she realizes that what she thought was forever-love isn't because he's banging a sorority girl on the side.  There seems to be a character shift early in the book where a maturity level that was apparent emerges, redeeming her.

This is another story where the MC gets insta-knowledge and skills. The one thing saving this from being an eyeroll and DNF is the explanation (or implied explanation) and the fact that MC is also confused by her new skills.  Instead of the regular trope where the MC is excited and thinks she’s super awesome, she’s reluctant to use her skills and is seriously upset and confused by this knowledge that she has but doesn’t understand.  Her being a ‘sleeper’ and ‘waking up’ fits nicely with the story and allows for this instant acquisition of skills without being extremely trite.

This story includes two of my least favorite plot lines: prophecy/hidden princess.  *sigh* Also, fated mates *double sigh* Despite all the tired tropes being thrown at me left and right, I did enjoy the story.  It’s well-written and engaging, with just enough uncertainty about what’s going to happen at the end of each chapter to keep you going.  The pacing is on-point and accelerates and decelerates smoothly, leaving you feeling as if this is a cohesive event.  There is a bit of a lull in the book right around the half-way point that makes it difficult to continue, but after pushing through the pacing evens back out and keeps going.

For some reason, I really enjoyed the teenage angst in this book.  However, the boyfriend?  So much wrong with her continued acceptance of "fault" and "guilt" for his controlling behavior.  It might be my own personal issues, but this REALLY bugged me.  I'm all for owning up to your mistakes, but the boyfriend's behavior was way out of line and it bugged me that this was never addressed--not even by the harem.

There were a few places where a content/line editor could have been helpful—disconnect in actions or things (where’d the prom dress go?)  Things just disappear or suddenly change position without any narrative to explain it, like her magically disappearing shirt.  It's all small stuff that is easily ignored and moved past, but it's still a bit bothersome.

The sex scenes are mild, but not quite 'fade to black'.  Given the characters are only 17, I think this is something that the reader should be aware of.  When I read it, I assumed that with the characters' ages, it was young adult, and as such there would be no explicit sex scenes.  It's listed as YA in the Kindle store, so I'm not sure how that first sex scene got through, but I would definitely put this on a mature young adult list.

All-in-all this is a decent story.  Davis makes use of typical tropes and actually makes it so that they're not terrible (dare I even say enjoyable) to read.  However, there were a few areas where improvement could definitely be had.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting YA Reverse Harem with a Sci-Fi twist! A Must Read for All!!!!!!!
Reviewed in Canada on November 9, 2018
Okay, this is the second reverse harem series i read and i'm loving it. Siobhan Davis introduces the Alinthia series with the story of Victoria King, a high school senior who thought she was just like the rest of her peers, preparing for college and making plans to marry her best friend and childhood sweetheart. Now the whole dating, marrying childhood sweetheart, i really do like it but i do find that it is the safe route like she just likes to be safe and not explosive in her life.

It starts off with Tori [ Victoria] and her best friends going shopping for a gown, then her bumping into an alien[ that she didn't know was one], then him attacking her friends and herself. She finds out no all is what it seems.

Suddenly, four males come to her school and her life is fully turn upside down, as she finds out that she's alien, and that she the chosen one to save the galaxy from a evil being and that's not all, the four males are her protectors, protecting her from evil threats.

Now for the characters:

Victoria King, 17 years of age. She was great, i really loved her character, her personality but not pissed me off was that she felt she couldn't say anything to her boyfriend[ Jensen] making him think so many bad things. I really like her when Tori was with the four males.

Her best friend; Kylie, well lets say she was cool[ read the whole series that are out for the reason why] She was very easy going with her best friend being a alien, defends her from others like Kenzie[ who was a bitch].

Her human boyfriend: Jensen, i really did like him lots. He was great but i felt him was easy to become jealous and easy to get angry. I do hope that he will move on and fall in love with someone
else. I felt so sorry for him and i did cry at times.

Then the alien boys:
Let's start off with Cooper, flirty, easy going and lovable in my mind. He was the one with the most against keeping secrets from Tori/Alinthia from the start. He understood why but he didn't like it. Yes, he was trying to break up Tori/Alinthia and Jensen apart too. It wasn't that he didn't care about her. He was worried about the bond between them and that it was too dangerous from the human to be around her.

Next was Maddox, quite and large formed, he had a rugged look to him in my mind. He was sweet when he talked and i have loved more chapters with his pov.

Beck, sweet and nerdy looking. He is the brainic in the group but most shy as well. He was very real like to me. He was one of the favorite's... well i lie the whole group is my favorite.

Lastly Dane, the pain in the ass leader. I don't like him much but i do like him. He is like 50-50 for me. He called all the shots and he demanded lots from Alinthia before she can/could understand everything. He pressured her lots and I didn't like that at all. He was also the hardest to talk too and if get anything about. I hope that does change soon.

Over all, i loved this book and want more within this series, and yes i read books 2 and 3 as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great New Series!

‘She collapses against me, and I scoop her up, cradling her to my chest. The profound sense of contentment I’d felt the closer we got to Eaton Lake is no match for how it feels to finally share the same air space as her, to finally hold her in my arms.’ - Cooper

Siobhan Davis is one of my favourite authors and I was excited to read this first book in her new Alinthia series. Whilst I haven’t read many RH (reverse harem) books, I knew I was guaranteed a great read as Siobhan Davis, in my opinion, never fails to deliver. RH isn’t a genre that Siobhan Davis has covered before but I feel she has given readers a book, and series, that will have them hooked and introduces them to characters who they will fall in love with. As with her Kennedy Boys series, you are spoilt for choice about which male character becomes your favourite, as this time you get to choose from four captivating, but very different, guys - Cooper, Dane, Maddox and Beckett.

We’re also introduced to Jensen who is Tori’s boyfriend at the start of the book but whilst I liked him at the beginning, I found myself disliking him as he lets his jealousy overtake. Despite Tori breaking up with Jensen, I get the feeling we haven’t seen the last of him and that he’s going to cause problems for Tori and the four guys. As for Cooper, Dane, Maddox and Beckett, I still haven’t quite decided who my favourite is and I’m excited to get to know them better in the next book.

I know RH isn’t for everyone and some readers will pick up The Lost Savior purely because it’s by one of their favourite authors and they’ve enjoyed her other books. If this is the case, then I urge you to go into it with an open mind and know that whilst you experience some of the usual feelings you get from one of Siobhan Davis’ books, you’re also going to experience some you haven’t felt before. If you’re new to Siobhan Davis and are unsure if to download this book, then I advise you to download the book, read it and make up your own mind. For me, I absolutely love this new series and I can’t wait to see what Siobhan Davis gives us next.

“I think that’s good, because it’s important to know who you are, deep down inside, but don’t forget the old Tori either. No matter what happens from now on, where you’ve come from, and the person you are used to being, is still an important part of your makeup, and you shouldn’t ever lose sight of that.” - Kylie

5.0 out of 5 stars A definite must read!

This book had me hooked from the first chapter. Having only recently delved deep into the reverse harem genre I was not sure what to anticipate from this book, as they can vary so very much. But this book is amazing!

The storyline and character development was well thought out and definitely a smooth read. We got to watch as Tori (the MC) grew with the development of her story. With a feeling similar to the Superman/Supergirl of "alien sent to Earth for safety", it holds it's own without being too similar. It's also great that Siobhan Davis included different POV's from the boys in the story as you get to see their reactions to certain moments.

Highly recommend to anyone who likes a little paranormal and a little love grouping.

I voluntarily reviewed an advance complimentary copy of this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great start to the series
Reviewed in Australia on February 21, 2018
This book started out slowly, building up Tori as the main character and focusing on her human life - friends, family, long time boyfriend. A chance encounter changes all of that and it is suddenly revealed that she is far from human. At first I struggled with how well Tori and her friend Kylie coped with this revelation - they just took it in their stride. There is definitely a parallel to the Superman/Supergirl concept, with an alien baby sent to earth from a waring planet for safety, but thankfully this story does deviate and follow its own path despite those initial similarities.

The character development is good, including the connection between Tori and the guys (Beckett, Dale, Cooper and Maddox). I did actually like that Dale wasn't as drawn in as the other guys and questioned if Tori was the child of the prophesy given she didn't display the signs. Tori was very much in denial of her origin and powers, and tried to retain as much of her humanity as possible until an attack on her family forced her to fully acknowledge who she was.

I wasn't sure how I was going to like the storyline with Tori's boyfriend, Jensen, given the immediate and soul-connecting bond she experienced with the 4 guys. I did like how it was written, and that despite the connection and every attempt from Cooper to change her mind, there was no cheating. I feel the storyline with Jensen is not yet finished, and I'm sure Kylie will have a bigger part to play in the next book too - and maybe her conspiracy theorist brother too.

Looking forward to the next book, and would recommend this series as an intriguing alien on earth RH.
