Bezalel is a Hebrew slave to Ramses II. An artisan of the highest order, Ramses has kept him in the palace even when all other Israelites have been banned. Bezalel blames El Shaddai for isolating him from his people.

When Moses and Aaron appear one summer, and El Shaddai shakes Egypt to its core, Bezalel must reexamine his anger. Over the course of the next year, Bezalel's life becomes intertwined with those of an Egyptian child-slave, the captain of the guard, and especially a beautiful, young concubine.

When spring arrives, all of them escape with the young nation of Israel. But that's only the beginning...

Editorial Reviews

Review

Through the eyes of Bezelalel, a Hebrew slave with a gift that makes him invaluable to the Egyptians but despised by his own people, we catch a glimpse of what life may have been like during the Exodus. In the Shadow of Sinai is a beautiful novel of hope amidst despair, trust in the face of terror, and a love that binds. Debut author Carole Towriss turned a familiar story of liberation into an unexpected love story that resonates deep in the hearts.
Jennifer SlatteryNovel Reviews

I was spellbound as I read her gripping descriptions of the palace, and life back in those days, the slaves, the royalty, and the reac- tions to the plagues that both sides had. In the Shadow of Sinai is absolutely riveting and I couldn't put it down. I had to find out what happened with Bezalel and some of the other characters. I can't wait for more books by this talented author. If you like bibli- cal fiction, you won't want to miss In the Shadow of Sinai.

Even though I know the story from the bible, its different because Its really a love story from one of the men who traveled with Moses and some of the other people who left Egypt.

Walk with Bezalel, hid family, and his companions from the palace as he leans to trust in Yahweh- HIS God.

Interesting and plausible story of the characters involved in the Exodus from Egypt. I never thought of how the Hebrew slaves had the skills to build the Tabernacle. This first book in the series features the life of the artisan who made the Ark of the Covenant. The story as a whole tells what life was like for those in the palace and for the slave, both before and during the plagues. And then it continues with the Exodus itself and the early life in the desert for God's people. Although fictional, it does not stray from the biblical account, only adds fictional details to enrich it. I thoroughly enjoyed it! It held my interest until the end and I bought the other 2 books in the series to finish the story.

A continuing story from the first book The Reckoning. Back to the terrifying story of Jack, Daniel, Becca and Theresa and a new face Andy. Andy is Daniel’s daughter who sees the coming future.
The efreet is stronger and more terrifying than before. They are up against evil so powerful, but thank God, God has sent his angel to help defeat the efreet. The angel guides Becca and Andy. She only comes when she’s ready, the girls can’t call her out.
It started when they were children, but the memories they have from that year are vague and only come in snippets.
With Daniel charged with rape and Teresa charged with murder, the efreet is keeping them busy so he can go about his agenda.
I must say Carole Towriss gets better and better by each story I read. She draws you into the characters lives, so much so you cheer with them, cry with them and are very afraid for them.
Read this series. It is one of the best stories I have read.

I have read many stories of Moses through the years. From simple tales of Moses saved in a basket on the Nile River to historical interpretation of the time period. Carol Towriss's story was not only captivating but inspiring and hard to put down. Truthfully, I gave up sleep to finish the book. Well written. I have raced to read each sequel . to

Well-written and engaging, In the Shadow of Sinai draws the reader into the landscape and lives of the Israelites in Egypt and in the wilderness of Sinai. The details and situations are plausible, providing food for thought about what life -- everyday life -- was really like for God's people at the time. Both the physical and spiritual journeys of the characters are compelling. Worth reading.

It was a great story but the characters needed more personality

This novel will pull you into love and loss, and then sweep you across the sands of time. Be prepared to have your heartstrings plucked to the music of God's song of love in sickness and in health, and in times of richness and want. In the Shadow of Sinai (Journey to Canaan Book 1) a satisfying and compelling historical romance sure to win fans early for the entire series. I have read all three in the series, In the Shadow of Sinai, By the Waters of Kadesh and The Walls of Arad, all excellent books. They can be read as a series but all of them can stand alone. Filled with the magical tale taken from the Biblical times of old, I highly recommend these books. Well done Ms. Carole Towriss, thank you for sharing your great and blessed books about the “Journey to Canaan”. A true winner.

Enjoyed hearing the story from Bazaels perspective. He is a Hebrew slave commandeered to work as Pharaoh ‘s jewellery maker which God used to prepare him for his chosen job to later create the golden furnishings for the Ark and tabernacle.

Bezalel was a slave in Pharaoh's palace ordered to make beautiful jewelry for the king. Then the plagues came and the Hebrews escape from Egypt. Out in the desert Moses asked Bezalel to help build the tabernacle. Bezalel realized that Yahweh had a plan for his life all along.
