When his five-year-old neighbor goes missing, Jack can’t help feeling responsible. He should have taken Cody home when he found him riding his bicycle near the Pine Barrens. And then a lost man wanders out of the woods after being chased all night by...something. Jack knows, better than anyone, that the Barrens are dangerous—a true wilderness filled with people, creatures, and objects lost from sight and memory. Like the ancient, fifteen-foot-tall stone pyramid he, Weezy, and Eddie discover. Jack thinks it might have been a cage of some sort, but for what kind of animal, he can’t say. Eddie jokes that it could have been used for the Jersey Devil. Jack doesn't believe in that old folk tale, but something is roaming the Pines. Could it have Cody? And what about the strange circus that set up outside town? Could they be involved? So many possibilities, so little time...

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

I was born toward the end of the Jurassic Period and raised in New Jersey where I misspent my youth playing with matches, poring over Uncle Scrooge and E.C. comics, reading Lovecraft, Matheson, Bradbury, and Heinlein, listening to Chuck Berry and Alan Freed, and watching Soupy Sales and horror movies. I sold my first story in the Cretaceous Period and have been writing ever since. (Even that dinosaur-killer asteroid couldn't stop me.)

I've written in just about every genre - science fiction, fantasy, horror, young adult, a children's Christmas book (with a monster, of course), medical thrillers, political thrillers, even a religious thriller (long before that DaVinci thing). So far I've got about 55 books and 100 or so short stories under my name in 24 languages.

I guess I'm best known for the Repairman Jack series which ran 23 novels. Jack is out to pasture now, but I may bring him back if the right story comes along.

THE KEEP, THE TOMB, HARBINGERS, BY THE SWORD, and NIGHTWORLD all appeared on the New York Times Bestsellers List. WHEELS WITHIN WHEELS won the first Prometheus Award in 1979; THE TOMB received the Porgie Award from The West Coast Review of Books. My novelette "Aftershock" received the 1999 Bram Stoker Award for short fiction. DYDEETOWN WORLD was on the young adult recommended reading lists of the American Library Association and the New York Public Library, among others (God knows why). I received the prestigious Inkpot Award from San Diego ComiCon and the Pioneer Award from the RT Booklovers Convention. I'm listed in the 50th anniversary edition of Who's Who in America. (That plus $3 will buy you a coffee at Starbuck's.)

My novel THE KEEP was made into a visually striking but otherwise incomprehensible movie (screenplay and direction by Michael Mann) from Paramount in 1983. My original teleplay "Glim-Glim" first aired on Monsters. An adaptation of my short story "Menage a Trois" was part of the pilot for The Hunger series that debuted on Showtime in July 1997.

And then there's the epic saga of the Repairman Jack film. After 20 years in development hell with half a dozen writers and at least a dozen scripts, Beacon Films has decided that "Repairman Jack" might be better suited for TV than theatrical films. (We'll see how that works out.)

I've done a few collaborations too: with Steve Spruill on NIGHTKILL, A NECESSARY END with Sarah Pinborough, THE PROTEUS CURE with Tracy Carbone, and the Nocturnia series with Thomas Moneleone. Back in the 1990s, Matthew J. Costello and I did world design, characters, and story arcs for Sci-Fi Channel's FTL NewsFeed, a daily newscast set 150 years in the future. An FTL NewsFeed was the first program broadcast by the new channel when it launched in September 1992. We took over scripting the Newsfeeds (the equivalent of a 4-1/2 hour movie per year) in 1994 and continued until its cancellation in December 1996.

We did script and design for MATHQUEST WITH ALADDIN (Disney Interactive - 1997) with voices by Robin Williams and Jonathan Winters, and the same for The Interactive DARK HALF for Orion Pictures, based on the Stephen King novel, but this project was orphaned when MGM bought Orion. (It's officially vaporware now.) We did two novels together (MIRAGE and DNA WARS) and even wrote a stageplay, "Syzygy," which opened in St. Augustine, Florida, in March, 2000.

I'm tired of talking about myself, so I'll close by saying that I live and work at the Jersey Shore where I'm usually pounding away on a new novel and haunting eBay for strange clocks and Daddy Warbucks memorabilia. (No, we don't have a cat.)

As with the previous title, Jack: Secret Histories, we get another well crafted plot, believable characters you can relate to, and plenty of mystery and adventure.
While the language, and descriptions of violence and gore, have been toned down for the young adult audience, F. Paul Wilson hasn't compromised the quality of the writing and storytelling. The tension was enough that I found myself literally gripping the arm of my chair as events played out through the story.
Throughout the story, connections are made between young Jack, The Adversary Cycle, the adult Repairman Jack series, older books like "The Touch," and even the impossible to find "Freak Show."
An extremely gratifying read for a long time fan, and a terrific addition to the overall mythology. I definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for an intro to F. Paul Wilson's fictional world, or anyone looking for a great story and an easy read.

Secret Circles is one of the books written by F. Paul Wilson that tells the tale of how Repairman Jack becomes the man he is. This is one of the stories of his high school years and it is written for young adults but I'm 68 and I loved it. I've come to read the entire Repairman Jack series and I'm really glad that I had the chance to see Repairman Jack take shape. It's filled with mystery, love, action and rough beasts. The trouble with tales of Repairman Jack is that F. Paul Wilson is such a great writer that you will get hooked on the series. I've read them all, my wife is in the middle of them, and I'm waiting for the last one, Fear City, that F. Paul Wilson has just finished. He says it's the last one. That may be but it's not the end of the story. This is one great book! Secret Circles is part of a trilogy of the beginnings of Repairman Jack. Extremely enjoyable reading; I guarantee it!

I had read about 10 repairman jack books before I read the young repairman jack books. I would recommend reading the young jack books first because it is a good insite into the events that take place in Jacks childhood that help create the man we read about in the Repaiman Jack books. Plus, these books introduce some characters that turn up in later Repairman Jack books and it's important to know the background of these people.

I love these Repairman Jack books. I was introduced to the hero in a book where a bunch of famous authors collaborated to write mini-mysteries. (I wasn't crazy about the book, but as I read it, I wrote down characters I would like to read more about.) Anyway, I won't go into the details of the book, as those are already out there, but I like the way Jack figures things out and sees that wrongs are righted. The only problem with this series, is that there are a whole bunch out there, and I can't figure out which ones are first, second, third, etc. The Secret trilogy was about Jack's beginnings when he was in high school.

Even with his young Jack novels, F. Paul Wilson has a winner in Jack: Secret Circles. Showing us what led Young Jack to becoming Repairman Jack proves to be just as fascinating as the novels that show him in his adult years. What fun it is to read & discover lost memories along with Repairman Jack of his childhood as he begins to put things together moving toward the final showdown. This book is another page turner as young Jack & his friends go off on adventures that keep you in suspense while taking you back to the 1980's & Reaganomics & Rubiks cubes!! If you're a Repairman Jack lover, you'll love this book!!

Even though written for a "young adult" market. Anyone who is a fan of Repairman Jack would love this book! Secret Histories and Secret Circles clues us into how Jack became the way he is. It also sets up alot of what's to come in his life.
While an awesome book, it is very short and I managed to get through it in around 3.5 hours. So, I am glad that I did not pay full price for it, but got it on sale.
I have already preordered the 3rd in the series from Amazon (it comes out Feb 2011) and am looking forward to recieving it!

I did not realize this was one of F. Paul Wilsons older books. I enjoyed the book but was not expecting it to be about when Repairman Jack was a teenager.
I received this book in a timely manner and it was in excellent condition.

I have collected and given away the series of books a few times. Now I purchase again. I love these stories. Such great imagination and writing. I wish there were more of the books from when Jack was a teen. So much better than Hardy Boys.
