Purchase options and add-ons
A scouting mission gone bad. A life-changing loss of time. Can a privateer team navigate a bloody revolution to find their way home?
Liam Hoffen is used to straightforward missions going off the rails. But when he emerges from a crash-landing, one look tells him he’ll need more than a simple repair job. Having spent years inadvertently trapped in stasis, life has done more than pass him by… it’s dumped his entire team into an alien revolution.
Stranded on a rugged world hundreds of thousands of light years from home, Liam and his crew are immediately swept up in incomprehensible planetary politics. Choosing the wrong side to defeat a fresh menace could be the difference between life and death.
Can Liam find a way off the planet before it becomes their final resting place?
Privateers in Exile is the 16th standalone book in the Privateer Tales series of military space operas. If you like alien firefights, galactic power-plays, and gritty heroes, then you’ll love Jamie McFarlane’s rocket-fueled adventure.

About the author
Jamie McFarlane is a graduate of Colorado School of Mines with a Master of Science in Mathematics. An avid reader, tinkerer, woodworker and metal sculptor, Jamie is just as likely to be seen smelting aluminum cans in his garage as he is tacking random, discarded iron objects into a small army of beasties that adorn his home’s landscaping.
Jamie’s writing career began as something of a dare which later turned into a tribute. In his late teens, Jamie was well known as the family story-teller, spinning fanciful yarns about ordinary events, usually with the objective of escaping well-deserved trouble. One day, his mother, often the target of his mischievous tales, challenged him to commit his words to writing. Jamie promised he would but time passed, as did his beloved mother. In 2014, Jamie made good on his promise and published his first book.
Jamie is the author of a growing library of novels and novellas of military science fiction titles including Junkyard Pirate and the Privateer Tales series.

If you have enjoyed the series thus far, you might find this installment a bit jarring. However it still delivers on the action and character interaction you've come to know and love. I don't recommend reading this book first, start at the beginning.
~ Kort
After some consideration, I realized that our heroes were getting too good. With the technology they were acquiring, their experience and expertise, the next story would have been about how they took over the galaxy... and lived happily ever after. When I was a kid I thought Superman was kinda boring, there was never a challenge or drama. I knew he couldn't be hurt, he always won, he always saved the day and our "Loose Nuts" band were approaching a similar situation.
So... without spoilers... I'll say this story kicks the feet out from under any expected plot lines. It's like the reboot in Star Trek with the Kelvin timeline, I'm expecting the next story to be totally unpredictable but that's really not a surprise. All of McFarlane's stories, since the beginning, have been unpredictable. It's one of the things I love about them. At the beginning of this story, I thought it was going to be more of the same that's come before, it was but in a totally unexpected way.
I can't wait to see what happens next!
For most of this series i have really felt that McFarlane is a modern day Heinlein analog. This book didn't have that feel for me. It is still good, just not as good as the others and it certainly won't stand alone.
