4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 5 ratings

The phone rings at four in the morning. For Ian McBriar, now a Detective Inspector with the Toronto Police Department, early morning phone calls are never a good thing. And this is no exception. Starting with a grizzly death and a warehouse fire, Ian follows the trail of a cold-case unsolved murder and a baffling series of clues, hunting for an elusive serial killer. And, this time, it’s not only his life on the line. The deeper he digs, the more perplexing the case becomes, the more bodies pile up—and the more dangerous it is for everyone Ian cares about.

Each book in this series is better than the last. The plot of this one has depth and history with the present case linked to the past. Not only is the plotline richer for that connection, the main characters gain complexity. Secondary characters have been rounded out and are more interesting as well and are more integral to the story than they have been in the past. It's a more complete world.
I read a lot, swinging from one genre to the next. I will continue to keep up with Mr. Azzano's writing when I'm in the mood for a police mystery. In fact, whenever he publishes a new book, I'm pretty sure it will be just what I'm in the mood to read.

I loved this book and could not put it down. I was lucky I got to read all three of his books back to back, now I can't wait for the forth one to come out!

Very hard to put down. Keeps you guessing even though you have suspicions. Makes you consider the "bad guys" as human. Refreshing to see compassion under adversity. Character depth continues to grow with inclusion of family development as well as career focus.
