- Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2016"The Slight Edge" by Jeff Olson educates readers how to realize their dreams and stop being a person who just dreams while life passes by.
Author clarifies the answer in the introduction of his Slight Edge foundation that can be applied to people carrier, marriage, relationships, friendship, love, and practically to anything in people lives. The best part about The Slight Edge is that majority of principles found inside of the book are just common sense, unfortunately they are often forgotten.
As an illustration, when author says "...The average person spends between 250 and 350 hours every year driving to and from this place and that is about forty minutes to an hour each and every day. If you spend that time listening to educational and self-improvement material, you'll have the equivalent of a Ph.D. on any subject you choose in just a few years. That's the Slight Edge...." or "...being productive and being busy are not necessarily the same thing. Doing things won't create your success; doing the right thing will..." we all have to agree with Jeff Olson.
Perhaps a few people will be discouraged comprehending that the slight edge is not some complicated principle, something challenging, mysterious, or something a person has never come across before. Slight Edge is all about the driving force in people lives that bring them closer or distract them from their goals and success.
In conclusion, Jeff Olson's The Slight Edge is very encouraging and motivating book. It is very well-written and simple to read. Because of that, this book is highly recommended for anyone who is looking to change the course of his/her life and ready to become successful. Apply the principles written in this book and you will discover how to make your dreams come true.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2018If it were up to me, every teenager in America would be required to read this book. Like most great reads it is well organized and flows from one topic to the next. Some may say that the advice given in this book is common sense and it is; though it is presented in a way that I believe spurs you into action. The steps to follow are easy, practical and will actually make a real positive difference in your life.
I applied most of the lessons of this book this year and it has lead to less stress, greater health (considerable improvements in blood work with a leaner and healthier body) more enjoyment of life and deeper relationships particularly with my spouse.
Whether or not a book is meaningful to you depends often on where you are in your life. Many of us have had a book recommended to us by someone, read it and thought ehhh it wasn't that great. However, I cannot imagine that someone would read this book and not come away with a changed perspective and tools to enhance the quality of your life whether it is your health, your finances, your relationships, etc. If you don't read this book, you are missing out on a wonderful opportunity to learn how to become better than you were the day before.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 31, 2019Outstanding. If I had to choose only one self-help book, this would be it. Really glad I picked this up and read it. Some will argue this book is little more than a re-formulation of a lot of the other self-help that is out there. Jerry Rice: “Today I will do what others won’t, so tomorrow I can do what others can’t.” For me, the way Olson puts his argument really resonates. Where this book really outshines others is it is really concrete, a lot less abstract and philosophical, and a lot more actionable for me. The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People was really hard for me to work my way through. I found the concepts Covey develops to require a lot of mental and emotional chewing on, like quicksand you had to wade through (“…. We knew that social comparison motives were out of harmony with our deeper values…”). Olson challenges you without the quicksand. The emphasis is on choices and time, with the language being much more accessible. The way Olson constructs his paradigm has really helped me think and act more positively and productively. He can be a little wordy, it can be a little repetitive. That is about the worst thing I can say about it. The best things I can say is it is an easy, compelling read, and it’s already improving my life.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2024I'm not exaggerating when I say this book changed my life. I've fitter than I've ever been, I now play the banjo fairly well, and I'm working my way through Irish on Duolingo with a 180 day streak. None of that would have happened before this book. I now tell anyone I can about what a difference it's made, and I've purchased it for two other people haha. It outlines a new mindset, but I believe you have to first approach with a mindset ready to listen and be willing to change your behaviors.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2023Very motivating book. Well written and a great tool for life. Am having both my daughters read this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 15, 2023I learned about this book while reading "Happy at Any Cost: The Revolutionary Vision and Fatal Quest of Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh". Tony recommended this book to many friends and employees. (Yes, I know that his story didn't end well). But, this book was easy to read and one of the more practical self help books I've read in a while. You don't feel overwhelmed by lots of advice. It helps you put things in perspective and realize the value of time and if you can do a little more each day. It's definitely a book I will continue to refer to.

I only read one chapter (I just started yesterday) and I can only say thank you. Thank you to the author, and to the people that help other people and make this world better. Do not hesitate to buy and read this book, is it worth it only for the first pages. God bless you all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just amazing
It opens our eyes about the power of little simple disciplines repeated over time. The author explains everything in a way that triggered me in a positive way. I'm not the same person after reading this book. Totally recommend.
