Boadicea's Legacy (Boadicea series) Paperback – April 23, 2010

3.6 3.6 out of 5 stars 10 ratings

Ela Montahue is a talented sorceress with the ability to heal, but distressed over a complicated ancestral legacy. Long ago, a mystical woman known as Boadicea, the famed queen of the Iceni tribe, issued a difficult decree. As her descendant, Ela must wed for love, not practicality, or she will forfeit her supernatural power. In medieval England this is not a socially acceptable order to follow. For her family’s sake, she should marry Lord Thomas de Havel, a vile landholder with a cruel streak and a desire to see slavery reinstated—a man with good connections to King John’s court. This arrangement would put the Montehues in a safe position in the new regime. The stakes are high—her dignity, her pride, and possibly her life in childbirth. When Ela refuses this repulsive marital transaction, Thomas de Havel abducts her and wages battle against her father in retaliation. Only Osbert Edyvean, a knight with the highest creed—honor, faith, and logic—can save her and preserve her gift. A businessman for the Earl of Norfolk, Osbert has been paid to find Boadicea’s spear. Rather than bring back this obscure artifact, he rescues Ela, intending to take her to the earl and obtain his parcel of land. Wary of the supernatural aura surrounding this woman, the admirable knight fights his overwhelming passion for a beautiful lady he wants to protect . . . and love. This is Boadicea’s true legacy. - See more at: http://medallionmediagroup.com/books/boadiceas-legacy/#sthash.wNqL4FUL.dpuf

This review is not trying to downplay the depth expressed by Traci E. Hall in "Love's Magic" and "Beauty's Curse", but "Boadicea's Legacy" was an absolute page turner for me. It was a book I truly could not put down! In this book you will find magic, mystery, adventure, risk, passion, romance and true love all within a phenomenally well-fleshed historical setting. I would lay in bed, unable to sleep, wondering where the turn of the page would lead next.

The story of Ela Montehue and her quest for the safety of her family and for the continuation of her own unique gifts during a turbulent time in English history was captivating. Ela is faced by many challenges, both from external forces and forged by her own stubborn will, that lead to a truly fulfilling completion. Yes, true love wins, but I will leave out any spoilers as to how it occurs. You need to read the book itself to become well versed in the Montehue saga and how Ela's connection to Queen Boadicea helps her resolve the issues that are presented to her.

Traci E. Hall has definitely become a favorite author in our home. Her well thought out characters add much enjoyment to act of reading her written words. Her apt descriptions add further dimension to her stories as well. I have yet to find one of her books lacking in either enjoyability or fascination to find out the 'what happens next' angle. The twists and turns within her plots are wonderfully woven into a unique and utterly entertaining package.

The plot was all over the place, I found this book not well written and the end was like the story ended at the middle of the book, horrible, the first book of the series was very good, second book of the series was mediocre, this one was worse

There is a general theme that runs through these books. They are nice, each with a slightly different twist. exciting, but not too.

This was a nice series, I'm glad I ordered it. I recommend it. I like trilogies and this was a good one.

This book was just the romance I was in the mood to read. The characters are extremely likeable—the heroine, Ela Montahue, is the right combination of fiery and feminine. The hero, Osbert Edyvean, is hunky and conflicted, his heart always in the right place. Both of them have a sexy chemistry that burns up the page. I found myself caught up in their sexual tension, their mere kissing making me read on. There is definitely enough romance and steam in this book. And the dialogue was witty and so much fun to read—one of the best parts!

The eternal love story crosses the dimensions of time, enhanced by supernatural elements. The second half of the book really delivered in that department. We learn that there are very good reasons why Ela and Osbert are so connected; and, we also discover that there are secrets in her past that make her so head strong and empowered. The heroine’s magical abilities provide conflict for her and her true love. We wonder if they will be able to iron out their feelings for each other and get over their fears of falling deeply in love—magic or no magic.

Villains, intrigue, real life and death danger speed the plot along. I found myself wondering if her former suiter and almost husband would come and destroy her chances with Osbert. The former fiancé is deliciously despicable and I feared he was never really gone from the story, likely to raise his ugly head again. Several plot twists later and I was suddenly at the end of the story. The last 100 pages were especially hard to put down. There could SO be another book after this! Was bummed to find out there wasn’t…

In 1200 Ela Montehue the sorceress knows her paranormal healing skill comes from having Warrior Queen Boadicea of the Iceni as her ancestor. However, Ela also knows that Boadicea placed a stipulation on her even before she was born. To continue to be a healer, Ela must marry for love; if she settles for anything else she will lose her ability that is a deep part of her soul.

Her family wants Ela to marry affluent but odious Lord Thomas de Havel. If she agrees her beloved family will gain wealth and power as de Havel has King John's support; however the cost is her power as she loathes the vicious Thomas. Ela cannot go through with the wedding to the abusive de Havel so she says no. No one rejects Thomas so he kidnaps Ela and attacks her father and the people in his holdings. Knight Osbert Edyvean searches for the legendary Boadicea spear, but instead liberates Ela from her captivity. He wants to dump her on her family soonest so he can continue his quest and even more so to ignore his attraction to the feisty healer he is falling in love with.

Although somewhat similar in tone to Beauty's Curse especially with a legendary quest, the latest Montehue historical romantic fantasy (see Love's Magic) is an exciting fast-paced tale from start to finish. Fans will enjoy the triangle as the two males act and react differently when it comes to Ela; both in their way want her. Fans of the Boadicea descendents saga will relish Traci E. Hall's engaging entry as a three way confrontation seems inevitable.

1.0 out of 5 stars An old discarded book from a public library.
Reviewed in Canada on March 24, 2023
Old book, stamped as discarded library book... thats a book that's been thrown or given away. Yellowed pages, stamps and/or stickers on the spine and inside both covers and first page. A first edition, ruined with all that.
Priced higher than the original price of a brand new book.
Very disappointing.
