Can they deal with the trauma they both endured on that hellish day on the mountain?Haven is the first book in the Beards and Bondage series. As usual, Rebekah Weatherspoon does not miss!! Shep is a bearded, 6 ft something grump who is happy living alone with his dog. Once a year he heads down to LA to scratch the itch he has to be a Dom. Claudia is a strong FMC who likes things a little rough but since the trauma everyone treats her with kid gloves. They’re a perfect fit. I would recommend this to readers looking for interracial romance, Dom/sub, bdsm, grumpy/grumpy, small town, and steamy romance.

What did I just read? Mind. Blown. In all the good ways!

This story is both erotic and emotional. And though there are a lot of ahem...good times (the series IS called Beards & Bondage), there is also significant character development, a backstory, and a good deal of focus on the relationship between Shep and Claudia and their relationships with those around them.

Thrown together during a traumatic event, the connection between Shep and Claudia is instant and makes little sense on the surface. But life and emotions are not always simple. They can be messy. And sometimes you find what you need in the most unexpected of places.

Claudia is a strong woman who knows what she wants, and she steps out of her comfort zone to experience new things, physically. I love how she embraced her needs and put her trust and faith in Shep.

Shep is one rugged mountain man who spends too much time alone, suppressing his needs. In Claudia, he finds what has been missing in his life.

These two are dealing with some seriously heavy stuff, but they manage to find exactly what they need, together. And it is hot. Emotional. Sweet. Humorous. Their feelings - the grief, friendship, loneliness, blossoming love - all of it, is so easy to relate to and get swept up in.

The only downside for me? I would have loved to have seen more of what happened during the time these two were apart.

Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed this one, and I'm excited to read book 2!

This is a really readable erotic romance about grief and healing. The premise is that after tragedy strikes Claudia whilst vacationing in the wilderness and Shep rescues her, they are irrevocably linked forever and they seemed tied to one another and their desires regardless of what makes sense/ is healthy.

I liked this. It’s incredibly spicy and very readable. I feel like some of the depth of Shep’s history and Claudia’s life were sacrificed for building a relationship between the two and I understand that decision but it also in a way limits the depth and richness of the story, though not in a way that affected my enjoyment of this.

This is a BWWM interracial romance that has BDSM elements and so to me personally, some elements were a little worthy of consideration when being inflicted by a white man on a black woman (if you know what I mean 👀👀👀). All of that said, I found the characters really likable and realistic. This is a feminist romance that is really done well with a heroine who is going through things, with really good communication and with an alpha hero whose feelings and desires ALSO feel like they matter and are important which is I think more reflective of the ideal rather than a cardboard hero serving as a foil to a heroine’s awakening. I liked this and want to read the rest of the series.

From the first time I saw this cover and read the blurb, I’ve been dying to read Rebekah Weatherspoon’s Haven. It’s a journey that Claudia finds in the gruff arms of a mountain man surrounded by woods and with a healthy dose of BDSM.

Claudia Cade is having a camping trip with her brother when her life changes drastically. Chased up a mountain, she comes upon Shepard Olsen who saves her. She heads back to New York to heal only to realize that maybe what she needs to heal is back up on that mountain. With Shep.
Shep can’t get Claudia off his mind, and he’s as surprised as she is to find her back in his lonely mountain town. Maybe what they both need is the comfort they can find in each others’ bodies. But will it be enough?

I loved how Haven handles the trauma that both of these characters experience. It’s so realistic, and it’s portrayed so well that I was turning pages as fast as I could. Claudia right from the start owns her feelings and her decisions, and it shows a lot of courage on her part to face her fears. I admired how she goes back to the scene of the tragedy. Shep is such a sweetheart too! He’s a nature photographer and has a gentle soul. His needs align so well with Claudia’s and whoa, was this book HOT, HOT, HOT!!!

There’s almost an insta-connection here, but under the circumstances, I understood it. Integrated with the BDSM and killer tension, it all just made sense in their journey. It felt like a necessary ingredient as they meet up again and take that initial step towards finding acceptance in all the bad between them. But with all that bad, can they form something good and lasting?

While this is a darker story, there’s a great dialogue between Claudia and Shep. I enjoyed the humor and camaraderie they had with each other. This book brought the dark and the light, the humor and the tears. This is not to be missed, and I’m eagerly awaiting the next in the Beards & Bondage series.
