Trapped in a far-off galaxy, Liam Hoffen receives news that a massive Kroerak fleet has found its way to Earth. Knowing an invasion is imminent stuns our explorers, but there’s nothing they can do when they discover the interplanetary Trans Loc system has been shut down to stem the tide of invading bugs.As if things couldn’t get worse; Intrepid is then seized by an overzealous alien government and the crew is relegated to the backwater planet – Zuri. When a chance discovery, that could end Earth’s desperate war comes to light, our heroes find they will stop at nothing to return home. That is if there is anything left.Blockade Runner, the eleventh installment of the Privateer Tales saga, is an exciting mix of fleet combat, mechanized infantry battles and non-stop space opera action. While this completes the Kroerak story arc, it exposes a new struggle against a corrupt government – the Confederation of Planets.

Jamie McFarlane is a graduate of Colorado School of Mines with a Master of Science in Mathematics. An avid reader, tinkerer, woodworker and metal sculptor, Jamie is just as likely to be seen smelting aluminum cans in his garage as he is tacking random, discarded iron objects into a small army of beasties that adorn his home’s landscaping.

Jamie’s writing career began as something of a dare which later turned into a tribute. In his late teens, Jamie was well known as the family story-teller, spinning fanciful yarns about ordinary events, usually with the objective of escaping well-deserved trouble. One day, his mother, often the target of his mischievous tales, challenged him to commit his words to writing. Jamie promised he would but time passed, as did his beloved mother. In 2014, Jamie made good on his promise and published his first book.

Jamie is the author of a growing library of novels and novellas of military science fiction titles including Junkyard Pirate and the Privateer Tales series.

Epic Finale To The Second Story Arc
Whoa! Let me catch my breath a minute, ...Blockade Runner was quite a ride.Jamie McFarlane knows how to deliver on the sci-fi action and this 11th installment of the Privateer Tales saga doesn't disappoint. Some reviewers feel the series may have jumped the "Kroerak" (as it were) but I think it just keeps on getting stronger. If you had told me we'd be at this point when I first starting reading this books, I would never have believed it. The story has grown and become more tangental with each novel. This one drops the crew of the Intrepid in an alien system with not much hope of returning to "known" space. But read on, things have a way of working out for Liam and his merry band of mis-adventurers. You can never count them out. Most of the primary crew returns and new favorites are introduced, including all new alien species. The Loose Nuts Corp. plays things fast and loose, and somehow they manage to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds. It isn't without sacrifice and loss though, so nothing truly comes easy. While I could question some of the authors choices, I found Blockade Runner to be a fast-paced and engaging read. I won't give away too much, but the fate of humanity is literally in the hands of Liam and the gang in this sequel to Give No Quarter.I've taken my breath at the close of Blockade Runner and have already started Pursuit Of The Bold. So far, the it looks like yet another amazing installment to this captivating series. BR is not without its quirks and sticking points, but on the whole it had me hooked. Do yourself a favor and start the series from the beginning with the expectation that each novel will just keep getting better and better.~ Kort

This was another good book in the series but didn’t have the balance of the previous book. I don’t enjoy reading about only negative things happening and this book was negative about 85% of the time. Another thing that bothers me being this far into the series and the author never lets the crew get ahead. In book 1 they owned a ship but here at the end of book 11 they don’t own a functioning ship outright.

This was another story in the main series with Liam. The quality of story was about the same and stayed true to the core characters we’ve come to love. Overall the last one was very good so by comparison this was a bit weaker. On the points:

-The action was typical of the series, with a mix of personal and ship combat
-Liam took a bit of a backslide into angst / touchy-feely
-The overall changes and expansion in the PT universe was definitely a big add
-Lots of time/development of surrounding characters. Ada, for example, is a bit more fleshed out now.
-Some interesting suffering/losses that added a lot to the crew personas and made them hardcore
-Liam doesn’t let the confederated planets get the best of him in true style. Really liked the “screw you” moment.
-We get some new interesting players that orbit Liam’s events, we also lose one or two (don’t want to spoil it for you)
-The end with the Kroerak was very unsatisfying and didn’t really resolve things. Really? They just got up and left? That’s not the end of anything.
-The super secret beat the Kroeraks thing? Kind of a ripoff from older sci-fi but I guess options are limited.
-Nicholas wound up in a role that fit him very well and would be a nice setup for another offshoot story.
-How Liam’s girl fit into the feline’s culture was nice.
-Unusually high amount of sexual tension going on in this book. Kinda thought we might see some harem action break out for a couple of seconds.
-Anino’s story about what was going on with him was really glossed over and didn’t seem to make a lot of sense.
-The hive intelligence seemed to get a magic get out of jail card there at the end that was unsatisfying
-Really would have liked to saw loose nuts come out further ahead at the end. After doing so much for humanity, they basically get a doorknob up the backside? Very unfulfilling.
-There was a helpful recap/primer of people in the front to refresh you on the characters. Big plus.
-Author mentioned this was a much longer story… not sure I noticed as a reader. It’s still a “done in one day” book.
-I like that they keep getting ships/tech/whatever, but it seems like they have to start over with something new every book. That’s a bit frustrating. It would be nice to start building up some cool developments via long term investment and customization in some of their fleet. We lost the hotspur over a single line in this story. Just “oh yeah that got used till it was blown up”. What about the suits too? Just gone. Yeah, we don’t need those anymore. I’m sure it all makes sense down the road, just frustrating.
-Always love the running joke how Liam has to fix a certain ship system.

I love to hate these books, I usually read them in three days and then have to wait for the next one to come out! I love the fast pace, the good use of future tech and the fact that with knowledge of a thing, it can be created again from the ashes. I'm wishing we had those AI's and retinal displays today. The alien's were well thought out, the Abasi remind me of a Samurai culture, I hope they are a big part of future books. Good job on making me loathe the Strix and I hope there is a chapter in the next book that describes their overthrow and humiliation. I have a feeling Johnathan will continue to be of surprises, possibly even a division of entities into a second Johnathan. I'm curious to see if Marny and Nick continue their long distance love or if one caves and joins the other. All in all, it's a great series and I highly recommend it to everyone.

What a ride! The Privateer series has been everything I could ever hope for in a military scifi adventure. Starting out with only a few star systems of known space and mankind is depicted in every conceivable representation, from the best we have to offer to the worst scum imaginable, each book adds layer upon layer of wonderful characters to the crew of a salvaged ship led by Liam Hoffen, son of an astroid minor. Rampant piracy has thrown them together to deal with situations not of their making and as often as not, beyond their control. With each new story the tech keeps improving until eventually fold-space travel to far flung star systems and even other galaxies is introduced. Sentient life abounds, good, bad and downright evil. Eventually interstellar warfare becomes inevitable and mankind stands on the brink of extinction. Exploration of an unknown galaxy, star systems and planets combined with run-and-gun space battles involving everything from ship-to-ship to huge fleet battles, it's all there! Jamie McFarlane's Privateer series is right up there with the best of Pournell, Weber and Drake!

Mr. McFarlane listened to his fans and provided much more close descriptions of what his characters were seeing and feeling within his story. This change added much more depth and richness to our reading. His great story planning and imaginative technology descriptions have taken me from the depths of despair with Liam Hoffen when he was forced to slag his ship's interior to keep his advanced technology from getting into the hands of a despicable, greedy race of aliens, to the crescendo of glee when Hoffen and his partners provide the remains of humanity's space fleet the means to defeat another race of aliens who had viciously slaughtered 14 other races and a large portion of humanity. Great story-telling! Highly recommended series.

I have read every one of the books in this series. I have enjoyed all of them. But this one was in my opinion the best of them all the story twisted and turned from space travel to marooned on a distant planet to saving humanity. Enjoyed every page and couldn't put it down. Well done Jamie McFarlane.

Such an exciting and well written series. Characters are fabulously developed. I love the interplay between them. This episode has a stack of unexpected plot twists. If you really enjoy strategy, fights, a little love, a touch of humour with a tinge of sarcasm and surprising turns in the plot all set in the future then I highly recommend this book and the whole series.
