Dark Tomorrow (Bo Blackman) Paperback – August 12, 2016

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 1,484 ratings

Smoke is still rising from the brutal and unnecessary destruction of the five vampire Families ... and Bo is in hiding. She won't be able to keep herself away for long, however. An old case and old rivalries rise to the surface and force her to face not just the new realities which London presents but the darkness that continues to dwell inside her. And then there's the small matter of bitter revenge to consider too. This is the sixth and final book in the Bo Blackman series.

After teaching English literature in the UK, Japan and Malaysia, Helen Harper left behind the world of education following the worldwide success of her Blood Destiny series of books. She is a professional member of the Alliance of Independent Authors and writes full time, thanking her lucky stars every day that's she lucky enough to do so!

Helen has always been a book lover, devouring science fiction and fantasy tales when she was a child growing up in Scotland.

She currently lives in Edinburgh with far too many cats – not to mention the dragons, fairies, demons, wizards and vampires that seem to keep appearing from nowhere.

I love a stubborn, tough female protagonist, but in the classic bildungsroman style, this one (Bo Blackman) gets stronger and wiser. She develops from someone who is stubbornly getting in her own way, to someone who knows when to use that innate strength to stand her ground against more powerful opponents. Her chemistry with the love-interest is handled well-- it is believable, it is appealing, and it gets recalibrated when a curveball is thrown into their relationship. Secondary characters are interesting, and their backstories are given sufficient development and I became pretty invested in their outcomes as the series progressed. Lots of bits of humor thrown in there, for all that this is a gritty urban fantasy series (e.g. female character wears glamour for a little reconnaissance op, is disguised as a teenage male, and tries out 'manspreading' on a church pew...haha!) This is the balance I refer to. Hats off to Helen Harper for another great series. This series I read on Kindle Unlimited, but like enough to actually want to purchase later on.

There was definitely a lot of action in this book. Bo got herself into some interesting situations in this book. Of course, that’s nothing new for her since she did the same thing in her last book. The relationship between her and ex has definitely changed in this book and also Michael’s situation has also changed. Now that there aren’t very many vampires left in the city after the explosion other people are being targeted. Bo wants to figure out who stole a little girl and she’s hoping she can find her. I’m excited to read the next book in the series.

Wonderful series. I loved the play of the gray area between good and evil. If you like twist and turns in plot then this fast action series is for you.

I really enjoyed this series, could barely put it down - I love a female lead who does not diminish the strengths of the people around her. Bo is a force to be reckoned with but she's not all-powerful and she learns to deal with her darker side and keep hope, even when things are looking pretty awful, and also she teaches herself to open up and accept love and help. It's well-written and there is a lot of humor (I actually laughed out loud a few times, one time scaring my in-laws). I highly recommend this series.

I've enjoyed all the Helen Harper books I've read so far. You definitely want to read the books in order as the books build off of previous volumes without a lot of explanations about plot and characters. This is great for those who read the books in order since it means the pace isn't slowed by going over information the reader already knows, but it might be confusing for someone unfamiliar with the previous books. The books generally also end with a twist that becomes a key factor in the next book and makes you want to keep reading. All the Helen Harper series I've read have a romantic thread that runs through the books, but the main focus is on a problem or danger which needs to be overcome.

General advice: I'm the kind of person who regularly rereads books. However, I usually borrow books from the library to try out a new author or an authors new style to make sure it is something I would be interested in rereading before buying it. So if Helen Harper is a new author for you, borrow a book from the library and see how you like it.

I really like Helen Harper. Sometimes I wish her stuff was steamier, because she’s got the plot and action and angst in spades! This is a fresh look at a potentially tired genre...a genre I absolutely love, btw. Bo struggles a lot, and through it the development of her character unfolds beautifully. Michael is a bit flat, but I’d love to see the mysterious X with a spin off. Good read!

I started on book 1 on a whim and was sucked in with the different aspects of all the Characters. One book on a whim turned into the entire 6 book series and I am happy that it caught my attention.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great paranormal series

Even with multiple events happening you don't loose the flow of the story. The suspense of the story is not muddied by too much romantic perspective.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great ending to a great series!

A really good ending to this series, but it is shame it is all over (for) now. I would love to read more about Bo, Michael, Rogu3 and the rest of the gang one day!

London is not a good place for Bo this time round. The Families are all gone. The kakos daemons are still causing trouble as are Tor V'ra and the hybrid witches. A certain MP isn't helping the situation much either! Bo doesn't know what to do, where to go or who to trust, but she needs Michael to be safe and to heal again. Bo needs something to get her teeth into, something to help her feel back in control again and when she somehow sees something in Maria's mind, she knows what she has to do. Unfortunately, as can be expected, things don't run smoothly and Bo is soon captured by a group she least wants to be captured by. A group who wants her dead! But that only makes her more determined to succeed.

There are many twists and turns in this book. I always hoped for the best as our fabulous, feisty fanged heroine surely couldn't die, but there were times I was not so sure!

I liked Bo much better in this book. She wasn't as nasty and bitter. She was still leaning on the dark side of life at times, yet was much more likeable and her humanity was starting to come out a lot more. Yes she's a vampire, a reluctant vampire, but there is still a lot of good in her and it was great to see that side of her.

The side characters were perfect to fill up her little gang, even Michael, with his lack of vampire strength and power, managed to be a rock in the chaos going on around them all.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and hope that one day, maybe, Helen Harper, returns to it, even if it is a short novella telling us how Bo and Michael have been getting on in their new chapter of their lives together.
