Review

"A page-turner about a widow learning to live without her husband. She's got the emotional support of her friends and family, who help her find the strength to move on. But she discovers a horrible secret as she's healing, and once she figures out how to deal with it, she's able to truly live again.
The French Wardrobe is well written with likeable characters. Highly recommend. Would make a great book club read." - Author Kim Cano

"Another incredible story from a fantastic author!

The pain of losing a spouse if one that I never hope to deal with, but A.R. Shaw has written, with beautiful and heart wrenching detail, what a widowed wife experiences and must persevere through. For the lives of her children and grandchildren, Vivienne realizes that she must not only survive, but she needs to begin to live again.

Step by step, moment by moment, she discovers herself in a new and refreshing transformation. But the shadows and paranoia of her late husband still seep into her thoughts. Was his death truly an accident?
A wonderful story that clearly portrays the love of a family....and the sacrifices and depths of darkness that one can provide, to keep their loved ones safe. At all costs! Very well done." - Sabrina Jean

"A refreshing look at dealing with the loss of a loved one with a terrific whodunit plot. Don't let the title fool you. It is filled with deep character development, moments of sheer emotional strain, pure joy, and best of all, some great unexpected turns in plot. Imagine being so totally absorbed in your life partner that life itself seems useless when they're no longer there. The protagonist experiences this, then completely reinvents herself to begin life anew. All this with an embedded mystery that kept me turning the pages to find out whodunnit and what she does about it. Highly recommended" - Author Burt Walker

What a great book !! I came to this book a few years after loosing my husband and the author did a magnificent job of all the emotional storms a new widow must pass through. Shaw really developed the characters and how they interact through this trying time. Putting her life togeather starts with the French wardrobe she decides to create and the lessons learned about herself and her life strengthen her for all the trials she has to bear living again. Don’t miss this fantastic book , it will keep you engaged every page you read !

The story was not at all what I thought it would be. I thought it would be about France and clothes. I didn't read any of the reviews and bought it because of the title. As I got further into it and realized I had misunderstood, I started to speed read to see what was going to happen. Actually it isn't a bad book- it has a little mystery that kept me reading. At first I didn't like the husband because he sounded like a controller. But all that was explained later. I didn't want to give it a poor rating, and actually when I got to the end, I liked it. Be sure to stay with it till the last couple of pages. This mild mannered female character Vivienne surprised me. Good ending.

I read this because I loved this author's post-apocalyptic series, Graham's Resolution. Though my taste is expansive, it took a while to find out if there was a mystery or a crime in this "mystery-crime" story. I almost put it down a few times not having much interest in what interested the main character. The exploration of the main characters grief process was excellent. Two of the characters were initially so annoying that I almost put the book down completely. However, I am glad I persisted. It ended up being a worthwhile book and I do respect the author for delivering the story in an unusual non-formula way. I will continue to read what this author writes.

Oh so many things wrong with this book. I purchased it because Amazon recommended it after I liked "The Girl on the Train", but while "The Girl on the Train" had not been a great work of literature, at least it had some effort put into it. The French Wardrobe was poorly written with an awkward use of language. There was far too much pointless detailing of main character's activities. It did not appear to have even been edited. I could go on about what else is wrong with this book, but if you want a cheap, trashy read, then this a good a choice. I wish I had not wasted my time reading it.

No one speaks like this—Stilted, proper, fake. Absolutely NO drama, suspense, or even the possibility of giving a minor blank about any of this book. So much inane, mind-numbing, unnecessary detail and self-explaining from the main characters (“I’m going to put my shoes on” level...), it reads like a boring how-to manual. That, throughout 20+ years, the authorities do so little to solve a crime-and oh, miss tiny little clues and facts like... a house that was burned down had just been vacated by the victim of mounting crimes-is so utterly, completely unrealistic. The end, help me...really? No intelligent writer wouldn’t realize an anchor rarely wins, in the long run, vs bodily gases, etc. So bummed I wasted my time...but thankful it help put me to sleep. I did find the topic in the excerpt from her next book (written in 2016 or 17, I’d guess?) fascinating, considering we are at this moment on Covid quarantine...but French Wardrobe was SO bad, I only read the first 2 pages of the excerpt and wouldn’t ever read another of this author’s books.

This book is from a genre that I usually don't care for, but since A.R. Shaw also writes a lot in my favorite genre, I decided to give this a try. I truly did not think I would like it, but the further I got into it, the more I became captivated by the characters and the more I wondered where in the world she was going with it. I certainly wasn't disappointed when I found out!
That she can write a series like Graham's Resolution and then write this book is indicative of Ms. Shaw's versatility as a writer. She steps away from the genre where most of her fans met her and into something completely dissimilar, and does it well.
I enjoyed The French Wardrobe. It was different, not at all what I'd come to expect from Ms. Shaw, but occasionally, it's good thing to get out of one's rut and read something that is off one's beaten path. I'm very glad that I did, and I highly recommend it.
Now I just need to go clean out my closet.

The twisted ending own a worthy read from me. It made up for the long endeavor of the building a French Wardrobe. I do understand the concept of the character need to overcome grief in t hi is manner. Also what it represents in the storyline and the building blocks of the storyline. This is why I feel, this author will be a formidable addition to my library.

I just finished "TFW" and have made a note on my iPhone to re-read it. Soon! I've read the reviews and still am thumbing back through it. Don't get me wrong. I loved the book! But it left me scratching my head. Everyone, but this seasoned reader, seems to know how the author finished the story. I love the suspense genre and racing to the moment everything comes together. Think Sandra Brown, Harlan Coben, James Patterson. I know I've missed some clues? After time passes, I will re-read your book with an open mind and hope to, on some page, have an "aha" moment! I look forward to it. Readers, you are encouraged to challenge yourself but look for clues!

Beautifully written, with an unexpected twist at the end.

I'd loved the Graham's Resolution books, and was a little hesitant to read a new genre, but this was excellent.
