Another great job from Dianne. Interesting and surprising plot blended with a fine group of characters made this hard to put down.

Another enjoyable afternoon read that kept me turning the pages as Liz attempts to clear her friend, Gertie, from murder charges. The plot was paced quickly and there were several suspects that were near the scene at the time. Liz does act impetuously toward the end of the book which was a disappointment to me as this seems to be something that Liz is doing more often now in the books.

There is never only one side to a debate. I have an Environmental Science degree but I also have a 2 year Accounting degree. Do the 2 ever clash--you bet they do!! While my heart says save all endangered species--my head says--but what about the jobs that might be lost. As a result I kind of stay away from any of those topics-no matter what I say someone is going to get angry with me!! Unfortunately there are those out there who will cause harm to other people to save a particular species. Yes, murders have been committed in the name of saving a habitat if an endangered species happens to live there--just as Doctors and other health professionals have been murdered because they happen to work at a clinic that performs abortions. That that person may have actually been helping with mammograms or pap smears for woman who could not afford to go anywhere else- and not abortions-well--these are my opinions and whether you agree or disagree is not in the scope of this review. I wrote this as an introduction to this novel because the murder committed in this fictional novel was killed because of The Blue Butterfly, an endangered species. (I checked-yes-there is a blue butterfly on the endangered species list since 1992).

When David Sander, a Forest Service employee, is found murdered it takes quote a bit of sleuthing for Liz with the help of her dog Winston to ferret put the truth. There are lot of suspects but the not so competent police chief is taking the easy way out-as usual-and trying to pin it on Gertie, the owner of the hamburger joint in town. Liz knows it isn't Gertie--her infamous niggle told her so--so who did it? Lots of other suspects-the owner of the logging company that will be shut down if the butterfly is found where the logging is taking place, one of the employee of the logging company who has cancer from formaldehyde because rules were not followed, a jealous husband with anger issues or an Environmental Studies teaching assistant. And then of course there is Gertie.

So who killed David Sander and why? Sorry--I'm going to leave you hanging again. Read the book to find out and there are more of the delicious recipes included.

Liz and her husband get drawn in a murder mystery involving the Forestry Service, the local lumber company, and an Endangered Species.
Another fantastic cozy by Dianne Harman. I love the character updates as well as the recipes at the end of the book. Enjoy!

This is the first of the series I have read, and I really wanted it to be better than it was. The mysteries storyline was fine, but the writing itself disappointed me. All dialogue was in long paragraphs, more intent on exposition and background than in seeming like actual people speaking. Characters came across as one dimensional for the same reason. Each seemed to have only one character trait, and the constant derogatory reference to the police chief as fat was insulting. This series is very popular, so maybe I chose the wrong book to start with. Not terrible, but not satisfying either. Hence, middle of the road.

Quite intriguing. Finding the killer took the best person, Liz. Her niggles praoved correct. She also stepped up to help an employee who was out of work due to the mismanagement of an area in the lumber company. Good read

I enjoy the humorous.side characters such as Seth and Bertie that the writer includes. Nice plot interesting twists. However, a correction -- therapy dogs do not have access to public places in general.
They offer comfort calmness and affection within designated environments, usually nursing homes, hospitals, schools, etc. Service Dogs have general access as they provide a specific physical service to an individual who is, in essence, dependent on the dog due to a diagnosed medical condition. Misuse of that identification just makes it harder on those of us who need our service dogs to function daily.

I really enjoyed this latest Liz Lucas (now Langley) mystery. She has become one of my favorite Dianne Harman characters. I have read all of the books in this series and each one gets better. I love the quirky characters that are in all of Dianne's books. This one is no exception. Gertie is really something, she owns the popular diner in town and when she needs help, Liz, along with her new husband and her always present pup, solve the crime and find the guilty party. Set in the mountains near San Francisco, this series is enjoyable and fun. I look forward to the one...

An enjoyable story with interesting characters. Though honestly I guessed early that there would be a twin brother involved. A relaxing read for picking up and putting down but not engrossing.
