Honor and duty. In Dad's mind, these were among the most important foundational pillars in becoming a man, and he instilled these values deeply into me from a young age. As a family dealing with Mom’s cancer, we’ve been staring death in the eyes for a long time. Because of this, Dad often talked to me about my responsibility to our family after he was gone. He was adamant that it was my duty to continue driving his work, further cementing his legacy and what he’s left behind for our family. I will continue doing that. I also feel it’s my responsibility to finish out the projects he was working on. Here are those projects: two more books co-written with Mark Stout which he had already spent considerable time working on, two books co-written with Kelly Hodge which he had already worked on, and finally, Dad’s younger brother, Dan, and I will be finishing the solo novel, and possibly the three-book series, for Audible Originals that he was working on. We’ll also be completing the tenth installment in the Dillard series, a book we anticipate will be the last in the Dillard saga. I’m writing to let you know this because I don’t want anyone to feel like there’s any sort of profiteering occuring. It’s a matter of honor, of finishing what he started. I will never publish anything under Dad’s name that he wasn’t directly involved in conceptualizing and working on. So, once these are finished, there won’t be any more titles released under Scott Pratt. At that time, I’ll evaluate which way I feel is best to move forward, and we’ll go from there. At some point, there will be a biography written about Dad. He was an extraordinary man that led an extraordinary life. When the time is right, I’ll make sure whoever writes it does him justice.

This book is a compelling story of corruption and the miscarriage of justice by the persons, one who actually killed a child molester and murderer and the other, the crooked prosecutor who forced him to kill the molester, in order to frame an innocent man, simply due to the prosecutor's hatred for said man and his position of power. It tells of a man's humiliation and abuse at the hands of both the justice and the penal systems. But justice is redeemed and remarkably so. Well worth the read.

This book was so bittersweet and sad at some point. Darren is a good and genuine person who had the misfortune of entangling with evil. Ben Clancy was the devil reincarnation. Darren life will never be the same again bc of all the torture and exploitation he endured and experience. I can imagine all the innocent people who are in prison suffering bc of people like Ben Clancy and Ronnie Ray abusing their power. All the hitting and beating that Darren had to endure would most definitely give him PTSD. I felt so bad for Darren, being innocent and couldn’t prove it. I’m just glad that there were still some decent people in the law enforcement community that came forth about Clancy. I’m so happy Blackburn decided to do the right thing concerning Clancy. And Darren wife Katie is just trifling and ratchet. I’m glad the Tipton family turned out to be good people and had a good ending.

I enjoyed, and highly recommend, this author's Joe Dillard series, so I was eager to dig into this book. While it was a mostly solid tale and much of it held my interest, in the end I just couldn't connect with the main character. His lack of thoughtful decision making and violent tendencies don't make him someone that I can root for, nor is he very heroic. And after reading the previews of the other two books that are currently available in the series, it looks like he would have similar reactions to other adverse situations, which seems to be the formula that the author has chosen for this character. Therefore, I've decided to move in to something else, even though I could read those stories for no additional charge via my Amazon subscription.
