Charlene Morris knew Salem, Massachusetts had a spooky reputation. But when she decided to open her B&B there, she expected guests—not ghosts…

A grieving young widow, Charlene needed a new start—so she bought a historic mansion, sight unseen, and drove from Chicago to New England to start turning it into a bed-and-breakfast. On her first night in the house, she awakens to find a handsome man with startling blue eyes in her bedroom. Terror turns to utter disbelief when he politely introduces himself as Jack Strathmore—and explains that he used to live here—when he was alive. He firmly believes that someone pushed him down the stairs three years ago, and he won’t be able to leave until someone figures out who. If Charlene wants to get her business up and running in time for the Halloween tourist rush, and get this haunting houseguest out of the way, she’ll have to investigate. Though truth be told, this ghost is starting to grow on her . . .

Linda’s Book Obsession Reviews “Mrs. Morris and the Ghost” by Traci Wilton

Traci Wilton, Author/s of “Mrs. Morris and the Ghost” has/have written a delightful, charming, cozy mystery and entertaining novel. The Genres for this novel are Cozy Mystery, Fiction, Mystery and Suspense, and Para-Normal. The story takes place in New England, in a historic older house. The author describes her characters as complex, complicated, quirky, spooky, and suspect. The cat in the story has a unique personality. The timeline is in the present and goes to the past when it pertains to the characters or events.

Charlene Morris is a young widow who moves from Chicago for a new start in New England. She hopes to make the large house she has bought into a Bed and Breakfast. In order to make it possible, Charlene has found local residents that can help her fix up the mansion, and attend to the many needs she has. In the quaint town, she finds that everything seems to center on the importance of a person based on his or her family roots. Charlene is also shocked to find that her house has some unusual surprises.

One is a handsome ghost, Dr. Jack Strathmore that has been part of the house since his death for three years. He is not sure what happened, but to move on, there must be some unfinished business, or possibly he was murdered. Charlene seems to be the only one who can see his presence. Charlene is ambivalent if she wants Jack to stay or go, and the only way that can happen is to solve the mystery of what happened to him. The only one that can help Jack do that is Charlene.

The characters that Charlene meet all seem capable or suspect of murder. There are twists and turns, danger, wit, and murder. I would highly recommend this entertaining, mesmerizing and enchanting novel.

A fun and unique first book in the Salem B&B Mystery series. Charlene Morris buys a B&B in Salem, Massachusetts only to find it haunted by a ghost. The resident ghost is the handsome and temperamental former owner, Dr. Jack Strathmore. With a little reluctant help from Detective Sam Holden, they solve the mystery of Jack's death. The story is well written with plenty of twists and likeable characters, including a mischievous cat named Silva. I'm ready to book a night at the B&B and read the next book in the series.

I really really enjoyed this. I’ve been in some reading groups reading the classics. This was the perfect book to refresh my palate between them. Warm, cozy, festive with a nice mystery thrown in. I loved it

I enjoy the series.

I would prefer to give this a 3.75. I read right through the first 5 books so they aren't awful and so maybe that's why I have the reservations about the series that I do. If I had time between them, these things might not have been so obvious. I will be discussing things that are in the first book but carry throughout the series. First we are given minute detail of someone's outfit or the food they are serving at Happy Hour. Secondly, we have the h think things, then tell people the same thoughts and then go over them again in another conversation. Way too much repetition for me. Thirdly, she tells us constantly that she can never love anyone but her late husband, but that guy's got a nice butt, and she wishes this guy would kiss her....what is the deal with Sam? That poor guy is still being strung on with the promise of some day...by book 6. I hope he's getting some on the side. Fourth, at the end of each mystery someone has to go a bit bonkers so the plot can work out; that gets tiresome. And as with almost all of these cozy mysteries, how can one person keep being at all this murder scenes? Salem would be the small city murder capital of the USA She must get kickbacks for each time she mentions that she got into her Pilot, she drove her Pilot, her Pilot was parked outside. I actually don't find much that I like about the h to be honest; she seems spoiled and rather full of herself--she does everything wonderfully. And if she keeps doing completely stupid things that almost get her killed, well, gee, she's curious and she's lovely. As with many other readers I love the secondary characters in the book which is what kept me reading and of course because I thought at some point there would be an advancement in the Ghost and Mrs. Muir scenario or with Sam, but since nothing else is changing I think book 5 is adios for me.

A widow buys a mansion to turn into a B&B in Salem and, of course, finds a ghost inhabiting it. This is a cute but very, very slow read. The mystery is who killed the former inhabitant of the mansion whose death was declared an accident. I have to say that I picked the killer out early but had no idea why the murder(s) were committed. The ending was a little too far-fetched for me. I won't be reading any more of the series. 3 1/2 stars rounded up to 4

This can be read as a stand-alone as the mystery is concluded in this book, but it is actually a series with the same characters.

I first picked up this book because I thought it would be a fun read around Halloween... what I got was a super fun read and a new series to add to my favorites list!

Charlene moves from Chicago to Salem to open her own bed and breakfast. She has the perfect home picked out and purchased, but not everything was listed on the real estate listing... Her home comes with its very own ghost! Once the shock is over, Charlene begins talking to ghost, Jack, and sets out to help him discover exactly how he died. Was it really of natural causes as the coroner's report listed or was it something more foul?

This book immediately drew me in as a reader and I couldn't put it down until I had finished it. Like Charlene, I had to discover Jack's history and the charming setting of Salem added to the allure. I loved all of the characters introduced and appreciated that each had their own distinct personalities and relationship with Charlene. I felt it was very well written, and I immediately picked up the second in the series. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good cozy mystery with a paranormal theme.

Started fairly well but quickly became repetitive and boring. The characters aren’t particularly likeable. I only made it half way through and gave up. Unfortunately by that time I didn’t care what happened between Mrs Morris and her rather annoying ghost.
