She’s the woman he’s been hired to kidnap. But ZeZé Vargas has other ideas . . . like getting them both out of this nightmare alive. Just one problem. She’s crazy. Certifiably. Because while he’s plotting their escape, the petite Asian beauty is plotting something much more deadly . . .

Max “Kill It Again” MacKilligan has no idea what one of her own is doing with all these criminal humans until she realizes that Zé has no idea who or what he is. Or exactly how much power he truly has.

But Max is more than happy to bring this handsome jaguar shifter into her world and show him everything he’s been missing out on. A move that might be the dumbest thing she’s ever done once she realizes how far her enemies will go to wipe her out. Too bad for them Zé is willing to do whatever it takes to keep her alive . . . and honey badgers are just so damn hard to kill!

Wonderful world of honey badgers,
adventure, violence, love, and comedy. You cannot ask for more in a story. I enjoyed all of the series, so far. Hope we have many more.

I laughed my way through this book. Ms. Laurenston has really come back to her old form. I didn't enjoy the previous Honey Badger series book and I absolutely hated The Unleashing.

The dynamics between the characters is complex and fascinating. They're all contrary, mostly violent, insouciant, and near sociopaths as far as I can tell. Every species has its own characteristics and gets along or not with one or more of the various other species. There's no centralized government for shifters, but the cats and bears have their own policing agencies and there's the Group, which kind of tries to protect everyone.

The characters say what they mean and the sisters have frequent, very funny, spats. The differences between the sisters really comes out. This book is about the middle sister, Max. She gets kidnapped by a group of men including Ze, the hero, at the beginning of this book. Ze is working undercover and isn't a bad guy. He's a jaguar shifter, but he never knew it until he met Max. Anyway, Max fights her way out of that situation and takes Ze with her. His transformation to a Pride series cat is awesome. It's starts slowly and then he goes full cat, snotty remarks and all.

The writing is really good in this book. It's also much longer than I expected, which was great. Along with the humor, the characters are written very well. There's a lot to be appalled by in these books, but I never was because Ms. Laurenston never let me.

There's not much of an overall story to this book. It's more a series of events that happen over the course of a few days, which is not a criticism. I really enjoyed all the craziness that happens to Max and her sisters. The focus in Badger to the Bone is not the romance between Max and Ze. It's there though, and sweeter than in the last book.

Badger to the Bone is book three in the Honey Badger Chronicles by Shelly Laurenston and narrated by Charlotte Kane.

I had a blast with the audiobook. I smiled a lot. Laurenston, weather writing as Akin or Laurenston; always makes me smile and feel good. I know when I pick up one of her books I’m in for a good time.

As always the books are full of humor, quirkiness, action and entertainment. This was no exception! We still get that fun loving feel and silly humor plus some suspense and mystery added to it.

The downside to this one is that there is so much happening. The author brought back a lot of old characters from her Pride and Magnus Pack series to make appearances. I love revisiting older characters and having them worked into the story, but it was too much. It was just too many appearances and this ties into the POV issue. We get so many POV switches that it threw me. Even with the audio it took me moment to realize we where moving onto another character.

Besides the old characters we also meet a number of new characters like Max’s basketball team who are all honey badgers. This leads me to believe the author might be giving them stories of their own.

As for the romance. Nothing stood out to me. It was quick and almost rushed. I can’t really say they had a romance. It was some smiles and flirting; here and there.

I will say I like Max. She’s a fun honey badger and then we get to meet ZeZé Vargas a character that doesn’t know he’s a shifter. I liked how they first meet up. It was fun! I also liked that Max took him home and helped him figure things out.

Narration: Charlotte Kane did a great job on ALL the voice. As I said so many past characters came into the story that she had a lot of voices to do. They were distinct. The audio also helped to move the story along since we jump around so much in character POV’s, which slowed the pace down, and so having the narration deal with that, moved it along.

Badger to the Bone was another fun listen in the Honey Badger Chronicles. I liked the audio and would recommend this series in audiobook formate.

This is one of the most entertaining series I've ever read. Honey Baders showing what they can do and with amazing skill. All while finding their mate. I want another book to read! I highly recommend this series.

Another good book by Shelly Laurenston. This is about Max, the middle MacKilligan sister and it did not disappoint. She is very cool with her superior knife fighting skill and direct way at looking at things. She’s a surprisingly happy person who doesn’t let much bother her and is extremely loyal to her sisters. I interactions with her basketball teammates and this book has lots of scenes to demonstrate how good of a fighters they are. We even get to see Charlie (her older sister) show her fighting skills also.

There’s romance between her and Zé (who didn’t realize he’s a jaguar shifter), but this concentrates more on the plot and subplots within the book. Lots are going on: cousin Mairi trying to kill Max, Max’s mom breaking out of jail and wanting her to travel and do heists with her, the evil twin aunts, their honey badger family, who’s helping her father with stealing $ from the family, and many more. All are cohesively intertwined and flows very well throughout the book.

This has a ton of funny moments, some feel good moments and moments where I get all giddy from excitement because they are kicking butts.

This is my 4th time reading this book in 3 years and it’s just as great (possibly even better) as the first time. I plan to read this again many more times in the future. Most likely again in Nov when the next book in this series comes out. I recommend this book and definitely this series.

Ze is learning what he is as shifter but also learning that he really cares for Max. Even when trouble comes calling for the sisters, he knows he belongs. Lots going on with more characters in the book, with lots of laughs. Could not put book down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, Fast Paced, Quick Ending

This was my favourite badger book by far, mostly because I really love Max.
I also really loved Zé! I was watching for a book with a cat other than a tiger or a lion and we finally got one! And a black jaguar! I was stoked and he did not disappoint.
However there were too many secondary characters, actually no, there were too many secondary plots. To the point that Max and Zé kind of got drowned out. It was so frustrating because really I came for them.
Also there was barely any romance. A connection was built but that was all. Normally she balances plot and romance well but this time I feel like the balances were off.
The ending was very abrupt to the point I was shocked it had ended. It's like watching a movie and the director popping up and saying, cut the end, you get the picture. A lot of loose ends were tied off rather quickly and messily making me think it would have been great if they had dealt with the twins in Stevie's book and started with a new storyline with that new pride for Max's book.
To end on a positive note as always I love how diverse her books are. She handles different cultures and people very well and it's never forced. Also it definitely was funny. I loved Zé finding his cat feet. It was great.

I have loved reading every one of Shelley Laurenston’s books and this one is on par with the rest. Full of quirky characters, action scenes and great dialogue, this one also contained many cameo appearances by fun characters from her other shifter series.
I spent my reading time split between chucking at the antics of the characters and wishing the tale would never end. Each of her books contain an excellent adventure that leaves you happy and satisfied at the end.
