About the author
Eliza Knight is an award winning, USA Today and international bestselling author. Her love of history began as a young girl when she traipsed the halls of Versailles and ran through the fields in Southern France. She can still remember standing before the great golden palace, and imagining what life must have been like. Growing up in the Washington, D.C. area, her weekends were filled with visits to museums, and historical reenactments. Escape into history for courageous heroines, irresistible heroes and daring escapades. Join Eliza (sometimes as E.) on riveting historical journeys that cross landscapes around the world. She is a member of the Historical Novel Society and Novelists, Inc., the creator of the popular historical blog, History Undressed, a co-host on the History, Books and Wine podcast and a co-host for the true crime podcast, Crime Feast.
While not reading, writing or researching for her latest book, she tries to keep up with her three not-so-little children. In her spare time (if there is such a thing…) she likes daydreaming, wine-tasting, traveling, hiking, staring at the stars, watching movies, shopping and visiting with family and friends. She lives atop a small mountain with her own knight in shining armor, three princesses, two very naughty Newfies, and a turtle named Fish.
Look for STARRING ADELE ASTAIRE a story full of glitz and glam, delving into the life of Adele Astaire, a spirited and talented woman who served up smiles and love both on and off the stage—with and without her also famous brother Fred Astaire— along with a determined young dancer with rags-to-riches dreams. Coming in June 2024, THE QUEEN'S FAITHFUL COMPANION.

See easy enough story not hard to follow along with plus there is fairly interesting plot twists and even William Wallace makes an appearance to shake things up a bit too. Okay what confuses me is some of the side characters. I have read only a few of the stolen brides series from Ms. Knight the first one the highlander’s reward and correct me if I am wrong but the hero’s name was Magnus Sutherland and he was a laird too but he does get married to an English lady named Arbella the heroine in that book. I have also read the 6th book in the series the highlander’s sin which concerns Lorna’s younger sister Heather Sutherland as the heroine but she gets married to the hero Duncan Mackay in that book as well. Are these the same characters then because in this book Magnus isn’t married and Lorna bemoans that fact of him not being married and unable to understand her at all? Magnus does even show that he is not attached by the bonds of matrimony during the Beltane festival due to the fact that he is shacking up with some other girls so unless his wife Arbella doesn’t mind other women in bed with them and he is able to practice polygamy which I didn’t know that was a common practice in the Scottish highlands or the practice of flagrantly showing his sexual prowess by taking a prostitute in front of everyone in the clan including his wife which I am sure happens but I thought that was not mentioned or was behind closed doors. In fact I couldn’t find anything on lairds being able to have a whole visible harem of women or even them having a mistress which I am sure is possible and does happen but all the Scottish highlander romance books I have read they appear to have only one wife. Another thing that confused me was Heather was married in the previous book but now she’s not and is living with Magnus and Lorna. So since Heather gets to live at home in her brother’s keep her husband Duncan must be cool with this arrangement and leaves her alone while he does whatever he pleases. I just kept thinking that since this book is part of a series then some of the same characters will appear in future books am I correct in this line of thought? The only thing I could figure out was that it was a different Magnus and Heather Sutherland so same first and last names but totally different characters in this book. When I thought of it like that then I wasn’t trying to think that they were the same people or what not and had no problems finishing the book. Now this really sounds like I didn’t like this book at all which is untrue I did like the story, the heroine and hero but since everyone is unrelated from the previous books in the series to this book I don’t think Ms. Knight should of put it in the series to begin with and just kept it as a stand-alone book. I still enjoyed it nonetheless rated it four stars due to the issues mentioned above and will read another book from Ms. Knight.
There was always a tug of war going on between them. Luckily Eliza doesn't make a whole course of spiralling events occur because they thought the worst of each other. They usually came to their senses fairly quickly. That allowed us to see how vulnerable they really were to their feelings and each other. Ms. Knight has a great way of setting up the story. She writes sections through the minds of the hero and heroin, so you really get to see what they think of each other. Then when they approach each other you get to see how their thoughts control their next move.
Lorna' s brother is a Laird in the Highlands and he doesn't want her to marry Laird Jamie because he lives in the lower lands where all the fighting is going on with the English. Jamie and Lorna' s attraction for each other can't be broken because it started when they were young, and that first encounter created a spark. It's that spark that develops a full blown love and need for each other, and their dedication to fight for what they really want; finally brings them together. Oh and a little bairn on the way can't hurt either. Pick up the book. It truly is worth your while.
I luckily read Conquered by the Highlander, which is book 1 of the Conquered Brides series, first. I say luckily because had I read this book first, I'd never have read the other one. In this book, the h's brother is not only grumpy, but mean. He never tells his sister why he won't approve her choice of husband, but instead insists on his choice. Book 1 starts where this one ends, so I know how it will end, and I just couldn't wait to get there.
I wasn't fond of this story, but I really loved Conquered by the Highlander where this mean brother is the H. I liked his character so much better there.
The writing is good. Could use a little polish.
