Editorial Reviews

Review

"Eliza Knight has crafted a wonderfully entertaining, emotional and sensual read. I loved the sizzling romance and the exciting adventures. Magnus, the hot Highland hero, stole my heart just as he did Arbella's." Vonda Sinclair, Award-Winning author of Scottish romance

4 Wine Glasses, Crystal L. @ Reading Between the Wines "This was a good read that I would recommend....This book has some action, a saucy heroine who spends half her time blushing and the other half axing, knifing and knocking people the hell out, and a sometimes shy--sometimes witty romance. I'm looking forward to the sequel."

Eliza Knight is an award winning, USA Today and international bestselling author. Her love of history began as a young girl when she traipsed the halls of Versailles and ran through the fields in Southern France. She can still remember standing before the great golden palace, and imagining what life must have been like. Growing up in the Washington, D.C. area, her weekends were filled with visits to museums, and historical reenactments. Escape into history for courageous heroines, irresistible heroes and daring escapades. Join Eliza (sometimes as E.) on riveting historical journeys that cross landscapes around the world. She is a member of the Historical Novel Society and Novelists, Inc., the creator of the popular historical blog, History Undressed, a co-host on the History, Books and Wine podcast and a co-host for the true crime podcast, Crime Feast.

While not reading, writing or researching for her latest book, she tries to keep up with her three not-so-little children. In her spare time (if there is such a thing…) she likes daydreaming, wine-tasting, traveling, hiking, staring at the stars, watching movies, shopping and visiting with family and friends. She lives atop a small mountain with her own knight in shining armor, three princesses, two very naughty Newfies, and a turtle named Fish.

Look for STARRING ADELE ASTAIRE a story full of glitz and glam, delving into the life of Adele Astaire, a spirited and talented woman who served up smiles and love both on and off the stage—with and without her also famous brother Fred Astaire— along with a determined young dancer with rags-to-riches dreams. Coming in June 2024, THE QUEEN'S FAITHFUL COMPANION.

I've just been getting into this genre, and so far Eliza Knight is my favorite author by a landslide. With the exception of The Highlander's Triumph, this entire series is so, so, so fun!

10/10 recommend this book for any romance reader, but especially historical romance lovers.

Eliza Knight's characters are relatable and likeable. The guys aren't just growling and the girls aren't simpering; everyone is a real, balanced character. The sexual tension she builds throughout each story, is excellent and well maintained throughout-even after the characters sleep together. She does a good job making each couple's attraction different enough that you don't feel like you are reading the same novel over and over again. There is always a good balance of romance and character development. The setting and overall dangers of the time keep the stakes high, but there is always a good deal of humor throughout that I think a lot of other authors in this genre lack. Like, come on, we are all just here for a good time, amiright?

Overall, this book is a fast read. It is paced well and very accessible. She does not weigh the reader down too much by trying to overexplain the historical setting, which I think really helps these story's pacing. But if you are looking for something that is super historically accurate, this is probably not it. While the two leads are not my favorite of the entire series, I really enjoyed them and their attitude about the entire accidentally-but-also-on-purpose-married situation.

I really did enjoy this book from Ms. Eliza Knight it was a quite an exciting read! Ms. Knight made the story so entrancing, absorbing and action-packed with a fascinating suspenseful storyline and lots of appealing interesting plot twists pulling you into the story.
Arbella is English and a baron’s daughter the heroine is taken by her father to meet her betrothed in Sterling Scotland while the hero Magnus is escorting his sister to be married. After Arbella and her father arrive to Sterling all hell breaks loose. Arbella is caught in the middle of a bloody battle between the English and Scottish. Magnus swoops in and saves her. After rescuing her it is a fight for them both being from two different worlds and cultures but there is a happily ever after too!
There is good strong character development individually. I really liked both the heroine Arbella and hero Magnus but by themselves and as people. Together I just had a hard time seeing what they both saw in each other besides lust and physical attraction? It seems all they would do is either conjugate or fight about everything even food despite them liking the same types of food at times. Also this is the first medieval historical romance book that I have actually read about a vegetarian which is different and very refreshing! I almost wanted Ms. Knight to include some of the recipes especially the mushroom pasties those sound absolutely delicious!
I did think Ms. Knight was trying to hurriedly finish the book however all of a sudden things were happening so fast for instance Magnus changing Arbella’s name to Bella, Magnus knowing that Arbella was Baron’s Mowbray’s daughter when I don’t remember reading that she had told him that. I really started to get lost; things were quickly resolved Arbella’s father being so accepting of Magnus and his clan when in actuality it would never happen like this and also should have been explained better. Despite all of this and my four star rating I will purchase and read another of Ms. Knight’s works.

Originally, I purchased this book a couple of years ago but wanted to go back and re-read the series again since I enjoyed it immensely and neglected to leave a review the first time I read it. Sometimes in life things do not turn out as planned, such as the forced marriage of Lady Arabella de Mobray to an English Lord she’d never even laid eyes on before and most certainly did not want to marry. On the other side of the coin, Magnus, Laird Sutherland, had just delivered his little sister into the arms of her “true love” who happened to be an Englishman. His vivacious little sister accidentally forced his hand by becoming pregnant, so naturally duty called for the marriage they had been begging Magnus for, for months. On his return home, they wandered right into the battle at Sterling Bridge which is where he met Lady Arabella as he saw she’d been separated from her party and was wandering aimlessly through the battle looking for her father. This story begins when Magnus rescues and absconds with the beautiful, hairbrained English lass he thought perhaps touched in the head to be there unescorted and alone. Of course when we read Scottish Historical Romance novels, we expect a stunningly good looking stubborn Highlander and a less than quiet, demure lass, for his to tangle with. This story does not disappoint in the least! The characters are strongly developed and multi dimensional, the plot is solid and believable with just the right amount of humor thrown in to make the dialogue between characters cause you to you laugh aloud.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great start to a series

I really enjoyed this book. Great leads and the first part of the book filled with lots of action. Both leads are likeable, Arabella is no wilting flower which is great to see. Having read some of the other books in this series, the author does well to not "over introduce" the secondary characters as they will get their turn later.

Well written with a nice balance of steamy....
