About the Author

Authors Nikoo and Jim McGoldrick (writing as May McGoldrick) weave emotionally satisfying tales of love and danger. Publishing under the names of May McGoldrick and Jan Coffey, these authors have written more than thirty novels and works of nonfiction for Penguin Random House, Mira, HarperCollins, Entangled, and Heinemann. Nikoo, an engineer, also conducts frequent workshops on writing and publishing and serves as a Resident Author. Jim holds a Ph.D. in Medieval and Renaissance literature and teaches English in northwestern Connecticut. They are the authors of Much ado about Highlanders, Taming the Highlander, and Tempest in the Highlands with SMP Swerve.

May McGoldrick, Nik James, and Jan Coffey are pen names for USA Today bestselling authors Nikoo Kafi and Jim McGoldrick. Together, they have crafted over fifty fast-paced, conflict-filled historical, contemporary, and Western novels, and two works of nonfiction.

Nikoo’s education and training was in engineering. She worked in robotics and submarine shipbuilding. Before earning a PhD in sixteenth-century Scottish and English literature, Jim pursued a hundred and one jobs, including a decade in submarine construction.

Storytellers at heart, Nikoo and Jim were always searching for careers that gave them time for both family and writing. Then, after thirteen years of marriage, they recognized each other’s creative strengths. Nikoo is all about characters and feeling. Jim is about action and sense of place. Their first attempt in writing fiction together produced their award-winning novel, The Thistle and the Rose. Much Ado About Highlanders is a wonderful start to the Scottish Relic Trilogy by May McGoldrick. This series has everything that I adore in a good novel: an intriguing historical romance, an adventurous mystery, and a hint of the supernatural.

This story begins when Kenna Mackay is kidnapped by own husband, Alexander Macpherson (Kenna ran a way six months ago on her wedding night after finding her husband passed out in bed with another woman). The pair are soon separated from the rest of the Macpherson Clan when it becomes apparent a rogue English commander is hunting down Kenna for nefarious reasons. While Alexander and Kenna are separated from the rest, they discover each other's fears, wants, and desires, as well as the healing power of the relic she possesses. As an added bonus, there is another pair who fall in love and overcome initial misunderstandings.

I listed to the audio recording of Much Ado About Highlanders narrated by the remarkable Saskia Maarleveld. Her narration is simply magical and a truly enchanting experience. Brava!

I purchased all three of this series. I am an avid romance reader and love a great Scottish Romance, but unfortunately, these books lack the substance of character and plot development that makes for a great read. The concepts are good, but they are a bit too "basic" for me. None of these were books that I couldn't put down. They did keep me entertained enough to read through each one and you can do this quickly.
