the wood is very fine grained (just like the product picture) and it's free of cracks/splits so should be very durable

some of the metal ones are kinda flat at the tip which makes no sense for a shoehorn

This is a beautiful wooden shoe horn. I don't find it to be too thick, any thinner would weaken it. If I had a suggestion it would be to make it half an inch wider at the heel part. I have flexibility problems due to a massive spine fusion, steel rods do not bend. I might order the longer version as well since I got this one to fit in my back pack.
