Maybe I'm not so good with Teflon tape. There was very little room to work, and I'm an amateur, so it probably wasn't a great job of applying the tape. That said, I was never able to get the tape to work, while this sealant was trivially easy even for me and it worked immediately. I definitely saved $100 or more over hiring a plumber, and I will be using on future simple plumbing jobs. Highly recommended.
Its very reliable albeit sometimes messy. Keep a rag handy
I like that stays somewhat soft after assembly.
I will say however, in my opinion I prefer the 4oz jar over the 1.75 oz tube
Its been my luck the bottom of the tube splits open.
Doesnt effect the quality, just makes a mess.
Also, its very good at sealing pipe threads.
Very seldom have I had a leak and usually thats operator error

I purchased the same Well-X-Trol unit, a Boshart tee kit and associated fittings and reducers. I initially only used the typical white Teflon tape around the threads. I did this even seeing that the old fittings had sealant around them. Sure enough, I encountered some small leaks. All but one sealed themselves over time. The leak that remained was at the tank and tee junction. It wasn't a gross leak, so I figured I would get to it when I had time.
As it turns out, a pinhole leak in the copper piping forced me down that road. I had shut all the water off and the next morning the entire pressure tank was empty. So along with fixing the water line leak, I opted to redo all the fittings and connections on the pressure tank and tee.
I searched plumbing forums, and it was recommended to use a better tape and/or a sealant. There is much debate as to whether to use one or both, but I opted to use both.
I used Megatape and Rector Seal # 5 the second time around. I wrapped the tape around the threads in such a manner that it was always in the clockwise orientation when being screwed into a fitting. This orientation helps to ensure the tape doesn't unravel as fittings are being mated. I went around at least four times for most fittings, the exception being at the tank and tee junction, which I wrapped five to six times.
I made sure the tape was fairly tight around the threads as it was being applied, went over it a couple times with my fingers and then added Rector Seal # 5 over the tape. The sealant filled in the thread groove nicely even served as a lubricant during installation. This allowed me to at least get one to two full turns on each fitting.
Long story short, the second time around worked. In the future, I will follow the same procedure on any plumbing job that has similar fittings.
