I have a hot water inlet valve from the wall to a faucet that spontaneously started leaking after years of no issues. I assumed it was the valve that was failing, so I replaced it. No good, it still leaked, and on further investigation it was a leak where the valve connects to the pipe. I reapplied the standard Teflon tape. Still leaked. Reapplied a bit more tape this time. Still leaked. I was going to give up and call a professional, but decided to order some old fashioned pipe thread sealant to see if that could help. It worked! The stuff is sticky and a bit messy, but it sealed the connection where the tape did not.

Maybe I'm not so good with Teflon tape. There was very little room to work, and I'm an amateur, so it probably wasn't a great job of applying the tape. That said, I was never able to get the tape to work, while this sealant was trivially easy even for me and it worked immediately. I definitely saved $100 or more over hiring a plumber, and I will be using on future simple plumbing jobs. Highly recommended.

used on an LP installation. Works great and seals fast. Stove can be used in about 20 to 30 minutes after waiting for it to dry. Of course leak test with some soap water. Be sure to use a lot on each thread and cover the thread completely.

I've used many other types of pipe dope and this is by far the best....applies with better tackiness and fills the threads nicely, seals better for a longer time....others I've used are to liquidy and harden to a flakiness that looses seal over time, I don't do a lot of pipe fitting so I prefer the smaller tube which will last me for many years....I recently used this in combination with teflon tape to seal a loosely fitting inline irrigation filter and finally fixed the constant drip at the connection.

My well pressure tank started showing signs that it was failing. The well pump would cycle frequently, build up a lot of pressure and then drop quickly. I didn't want to burn out the pump or create a water line leak.

I purchased the same Well-X-Trol unit, a Boshart tee kit and associated fittings and reducers. I initially only used the typical white Teflon tape around the threads. I did this even seeing that the old fittings had sealant around them. Sure enough, I encountered some small leaks. All but one sealed themselves over time. The leak that remained was at the tank and tee junction. It wasn't a gross leak, so I figured I would get to it when I had time.

As it turns out, a pinhole leak in the copper piping forced me down that road. I had shut all the water off and the next morning the entire pressure tank was empty. So along with fixing the water line leak, I opted to redo all the fittings and connections on the pressure tank and tee.

I searched plumbing forums, and it was recommended to use a better tape and/or a sealant. There is much debate as to whether to use one or both, but I opted to use both.

I used Megatape and Rector Seal # 5 the second time around. I wrapped the tape around the threads in such a manner that it was always in the clockwise orientation when being screwed into a fitting. This orientation helps to ensure the tape doesn't unravel as fittings are being mated. I went around at least four times for most fittings, the exception being at the tank and tee junction, which I wrapped five to six times.

I made sure the tape was fairly tight around the threads as it was being applied, went over it a couple times with my fingers and then added Rector Seal # 5 over the tape. The sealant filled in the thread groove nicely even served as a lubricant during installation. This allowed me to at least get one to two full turns on each fitting.

Long story short, the second time around worked. In the future, I will follow the same procedure on any plumbing job that has similar fittings.

I used this on all the pipe thread joints, from the brass nipple at the submersible pump, to the pressure tank manifold, and pex 'A' adapters, on a new house. Most connections were brass thread and this sealant was used along with teflon tape. This was advised on a forum and it works. Not one leak at 50 lbs. I've used many sealants over the years and have yet to find one that works consistently on potable water plumbing.
