This tight end is at the top of his game. He’s good with his hands, even better with his sexy mouth, and the best at making me forget my own name. His—ahem—stats are perfect.

But I can’t fall for him. He might be everything I want, all rolled into a glorious package of gridiron god, but there’s one teeny-tiny problem. The vile, loathsome team I’ve spent my entire life hating—my beloved school’s arch-rival?

This guy is their star player.

I will be the first to admit that I don't know a lot about sports, but I do enjoy a really good sports romance. The Rivalry by Nikki Sloane had me losing sleep and getting lost in this funny, sexy and cute (in that falling in love for the first time type of love). I couldn't believe the seriousness that is falling for the arch rival of your college football teams hottest tight end player and how much damage it could do to family and friends. This character is screwed if her secret boyfriend is left standing on the fifty yard line wearing his teams colors for all those in her life to see.

Kayla McCarthy and her family bleed Ohio State colors, they are die hard true OSU football fans. Kayla is the head cheerleader and was raised taking the rivalry between OSU and Michigan very seriously. This is one feisty short character that doesn't see size as a distraction when it comes to standing up for her team. It's standing up for herself that will throw you off just a little.

Jay Harris, there is no doubt that he will become a book boyfriend too many readers. He is strong and one of the best players on the football field. I love that he stays true to himself and doesn't let his popularity on campus get to him. Jay knows what he wants and that isn't a girl throwing herself at him for recognition. He wants someone to love him for the man that he is out of the team uniform. The love that he has with his family is so delightful, they see past the rivalry and are accepting of others. Will he be able to prove to the one woman that has caught more than just his attention, that love is worth taking a risk?

I loved everything about The Rivalry, it is another great read from Nikki Sloane. It's perfectly written and allowed me to feel Kayla's dilemma and Jay's moments of falling in love and losing patience. The chemistry these two characters have is funny with their sexual teasing. The sex is not your typical "Nikki Sloane having a reader take a cold shower" read, but it is HOT!!! The moments between family and friends, that seem to test their love, trust and future does pull on the heartstrings.
This is a 5 I LOVE THIS STORY STARS read!!!

Kayla McCarthy lives and breathes everything Ohio State football. Being their cheerleading captain, it’s not only her job but her passion.

As much as she loves her team, she detests their rivals – The University of Michigan – and she most certainly wouldn’t fall for one of their most celebrated players. Or would she?

Jay Harris is set to go pro after university and he has to be extra cautious with girls. Most of them fall at his feet or are willing to do just about anything to get close to him. But there is just something about the tiny girl that he met at his friend’s wedding that he just can’t get out of his mind.

She’s equal parts beautiful and stubborn so convincing her to take a chance on him is going to be his biggest play yet.

Nikki has penned her sweetest hero yet in The Rivalry. Jay Harris made me seriously swoon with his gentle strength and his wicked sense of humor. The way that wooed Kayla despite all the obstacles made the story that much more satisfying. And then add in Nikki’s signature off-the-charts heat and this becomes one of the best sports romances of the season.

It's by far more satisfying than winning the big championship and Tofurkey for the holidays...

hile I'm not as well versed in college football, I'm familiar with something stuff. I know all about those school rivalries they are prevalent in football and other sports. While the whole traditions and other little things I probably wouldn't be as aware of to realize most of the creative fictional stuff except big games. So I liked the writing and flow and I was able to by pass all the usual hang ups I have on sports stuff and it worked sorta. I enjoyed it Nikki Sloane's foray into sports romance. I definitely liked the premise too, many fans take those really seriously.

The Jason Witten comparison to Jay helped make a good visual too, younger version of course. Both tight ends and I can imagine how good he looked. I can relate to Kayla on the sports thing and her fanatic ways. Funny thing unbeknownst to them they hit it off not knowing their schools are arch rivals. It seemed all good too but Kayla is adamantly against anything going forward when she finds out. But this tight end is not giving up despite the penalty that's for sure.

I felt the double edge, I felt the conflict of liking someone then the unspoken forbidden part of them being a rival. Like Romeo and Juliet with sports. As a fan I get that rival sports teams, house divided and all that. It can be a friendly smack talk competition some it can be huge for others. The families were a little over the top but I wouldn't expect less from football/sports families. I liked those parts, it was fun to see. As for Kayla and Jay I like the little competition vibe it makes things fun and competitive banter. It sends a nice message too sometimes it's.more than the game.

When you have a common cheerleaders and footballers theme it's mostly quarterbacks so this was a fun twist on that. The football fan in me likes how the author talks football too. I will say I unexpectedly really liked this book of Nikki's story wise while the other ones I've read of hers is good too this one appealed to me best. I hope this is not her last sports romance, she does write it well.

Nikki Sloane proves her talent again and again with her incredible writing skills. I have loved all her books so far and The Rivalry had me totally hooked!! I loved the sexy "tight end" Jay who plays college football for Michigan State. His character was perfect. He fell hard for Kayla who cheer leads for Ohio State, their arch enemy!!! I loved their bantering and how they handled falling for each other even though both their teams were enemies. Their love for one another had gradually taken over and brought them together. Loved it!! This was a great story creatively written with such panty melting scenes that I won't soon forget. Nikki has a way of bringing her characters to life, such a great read! A definite 5 star book for me with all the right feels!!!

OMFG!! THIS BOOK!!!

This is the first book I've read from Nikki Sloane. Let me tell you I loved it!!!

I now want to follow Kayla’s team Ohio State Buckeyes ‘GO BUCKS!’ and Jay's team Michigan Wolverines ‘GO BLUE!’

YESSSS I want to follow both teams hahaha.

This book seriously made me laugh so much.

When Kayla finds about who Jay is... hahaha she like NO THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING!! 'Oh yes it's happening Kayla' lmao

Jay ♡ Sweet baby Jesus!!! That man is hot as hell. I swear LOVED HIM. He was so damn swoony and funny.

That scene at Kayla's door.... I needed to cool off after it. Was soooo hot.

Kayla ♡ LOVE LOVE LOVE HER!!! She loves her Ohio State Buckeyes so much and she's obsessed with talking about football lol.

From start to finish I was hooked so bad.

Jay and Kayla are my absolute favourite.

There are some authors whose books you buy without reading the blurb because you know that know how to write one hell of a story, Nikki Sloane  is one of those authors for me & this book definitely fits the bill.

Rivalry is Sloane's first sports romance & I hope it won't be her last.

Kayla is a die hard, devoted Buckeye, who was raised to uphold the rivalry between Ohio State & Michigan.

Jay is the starting tight end for Michigan State.

Meeting at the wedding for their mutual friends, neither can believe their luck. But is their chemistry stronger than the fierce rivalry between their teams.

I absolutely loved this book, is was fun, witty, sexy, flirty with just the right amount of angst. I loved Kayla & Jay's chemistry & each of their characters were strong in their own right.

I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy through Nikki's reading group because she's awesome like that. But I'm writing & sharing this review so that more reader's can discover her! Highly recommend!

3.0 out of 5 stars I've read better sports romances

I love this author but this one was a bit of a miss for me. The rivalry was so overblown and the family's reactions to the H's identity were borderline ridiculous. It's a sport! Not warring factions of royal families in medieval times.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sports rivals romance

I really enjoyed this book. The chemistry between the main characters was intense even after finding out they were from rivals universities. The dynamic of building a relationship when the h has been brought up to loathe the rival university due to their football teams was so good. I loved when Kayla walked in to Biffs for the first time. She was a strong ass petite blonde who certainly didn’t hold any punches. There were real laugh out loud moments. Particularly at the wedding at the beginning. I loved Jays character, and I totally understood where he was coming from when he was trying to deal with Kayla and her disdain for everything Michigan.
This had steamy parts but was in no way anywhere near as steamy as some of the other books I have read by Nikki.
The only reason I didn’t give this book 5 stars was because as a Brit I had no clue when the story was talking about American football! There was a lot of football talk and explaining the game in action but it honestly meant nothing to me. I guess if you understand all the terms you’re fine but as I said, I’m totally clueless about it. It did not however ruin my enjoyment.
