I have to start this review by saying how utterly ashamed I am of myself. I only discovered this authors works during the summer. I had purchased a paperback of Excess Baggage—Erica and Jack's story—at a signing I attended earlier in the year. I was instantly drawn in by the quirky front covers and knew I had to purchase one.
When I went into the first book, I went in completely blind. I didn't read the blurb, nor did I check out reviews or anything that would give the story away. I went in not knowing what to expect and I am so bloody glad I did.
Now, here's why I am so damn ashamed of myself...
This author can write! Her characters are unique in their own rights and let's not forget how freakin' hilarious they are (or the author is). I may have almost peed my pants a little *snorts*
I read the first book in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed it. I found myself questioning my sanity and why the hell I hadn't read it sooner. I've learned my lesson. It won't be happening again, that's for sure.
Love Uncovered is Brooke's story and, much like Excess Baggage, this one did not disappoint.
I adored Brooke. She was witty, smart, yet, extremely flawed. But you know what? I loved that about her. She didn't try to be someone else. She was who she was and she didn't make apologies for that.
Brooke has never been in love. She doesn't even know what love is or even if it exists.
She loves partying. She loves her Nan. And she loves a good ol' fashioned shag LOL.
And Brooke doesn't do relationships. EVER!
So when she finds herself thinking about a certain tatted up hottie more than she thinks of sex—well, sex that involves anyone other than Nicholas—she doesn't know how to react.
Nicholas shouldn't be able to see through Brooke but he does. He sees right down into the depths of her very soul. While others see someone that isn't afraid to speak her mind, someone that is only up for a quickie in a hotel room, Nicholas sees something else. Something more.
He sees vulnerability.
And this scares Brooke.
She isn't one to show her emotions. Not even when her very own mother ignores her very existence, or when her father rejects her and refuses to accept her as his. She closes off. Shuts down any emotions that dare to float to the surface. But she can't hide it from Nicholas.
Nicholas is living in his own kind of hell, tormented by a past that refuses to go away. When he sees how badly Brooke has been treated, he tries his damnedest to protect her from harm. Unfortunately, that includes her getting involved with himself. No one is good enough for her. Especially not him. But he can't deny his feelings for Brooke. Nor can she deny her growing feelings for him.
They need each other more than they know.
Laura delivered another epic tale surrounding our 'Brighton Babes.' It was fun, flirty, sexy as hell, and with just the right amount of drama to leave you feeling sated.
I highly recommend this author. Hands down one of my new favourites.
Brooke and Nicholas are amazing characters and I couldn’t help but root for Brooke to see what’s right in front of her. Nicholas’s friend, Tom is Brooke’s hook up buddy from time to time and is a complete and utter player. Tom is a big character and out shines everyone with his charm and seductive ways but Brooke soon begins to realise what she really is to Tom and how he doesn’t respect her at all.
Brooke doesn’t want a relationship but she starts to see Nicholas in a different way when he tells her that she could do better.
Nicholas is a complicated guy at times. He’s broody and quiet but he knows that Brooke could do much better than Tom but he is not really sure if he actually means himself. He’s not sure if he’s good enough for her.
I absolutely loved this story and I’m dying to read more from this author. I believe she fantastic at making story funny and at times cringe worthy which I absolutely love. I can definitely recommend this book and any book from this author.
Women have warned Brook about Nicholas; they said he's clingy and jealous and possessive. Qualities that may deem sweet to other gals, but also quite a turnoff to some. But Nicholas is more than just that, and when Brooke finally uncovers what lies beneath, she is in for a big surprise.
Love Uncovered is the next book in the Babes of Brighton series. I'm glad I was able to read the first book (Excess Baggage) and have kept up with the characters and their issues, personalities, concerns and activities. Although I wasn't impressed that much with Brooke, I thought she was a bit too much on the wild side and also self-centered and cocky. Can't say I like her much, but when she's with Nicholas, I thought she's okay. Despite the criticisms thrown at Nicholas' attitude, I thought he was the perfect guy who could tame Brooke, but time and time again, she hurt Nicholas in more ways than one and I couldn't stand her. I couldn't help but cry for Nicholas. The truth about his mom though, wow that was really shocking!
Somehow, it all boiled down to lack of trust and communication that broke their connection, but in the end, I liked how everything worked out.
Can't wait to read Alice's story next!

Love Uncovered initially drew my attention because of the ridiculously cute and colourful cover art, but then the blurb got me all intrigued and I knew I had to have this book in my life.
I’ve attempted to sit down and write this review no less than three times since completing the book on Friday (it’s now Sunday afternoon). There are so many facets of this book that sparkle and shine and a few that dulled the romance and beauty of it all, but I feel that that was primarily due more to personal dislikes I have in romance books than the depth and style of the writing. In that respect I could not find fault with this book. The dialogue is sharp, funny and clever, flowing realistically from character to character. Our heroine Brooke is a complicated and confused woman, drowning in chaos and uncertainty. She’s a very real, very flawed character and to be perfectly honest, it was her immaturity and indecisiveness that interrupted my enjoyment of the story as a whole. She is quickly established as a smart, confident and truly independent woman, but her actions and thoughts negate this, constantly needing reassurance or reciprocation from the opposite of sex, and later on in the story this independence transforms into paranoid clinginess that leads her to make yet another massive mistake. It’s this mistake that then has serious ramifications for all involved. I know that some readers thrive on this kind of angst and drama but unfortunately this reader doesn’t. But in saying that, it didn’t feel contrite or staged, it felt true to Brooke’s character, as her thoughts help to guide the reader on how and what she is feeling. She was just simply a heroine that I couldn’t connect with and that left me feeling more empathy towards the hero than a love of the relationship.
‘He takes my outstretched hand and lets me lead him to the bedroom where he kicks off his jacket and shoes before moving the duvet back. He pulls me into his warm chest which is quickly becoming my favourite place, wrapping me up in his arms, and making me feel the most protected I ever have in my life. Would it be so bad to be possessed by this man?’
Nicholas is a bit of a moody enigma. He’s admittedly obsessive and controlling when it comes to relationships, issues stemming from childhood, so his reasons for trying to stay away from the one person he wants are legitimate. The sexual tension between Brooke and Nicholas is off the charts hot. They do spark off one another, the attraction is undeniable. Although their tale is an unconventional romance story, it still felt realistic, it wasn’t all hearts and flowers and sweet romantic sex. It was chaotic, meandering, fiery and the odds were stacked against them but ultimately their feelings for one another, how far they were willing to go, beg, understand and forgive and love makes them a perfect couple.
Although parts of this book weren’t to my liking, it is still a very well written romance and I’m still glad I read it.
