Adventurous Proposal Paperback – November 14, 2016

4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 1,083 ratings

After a string of bad dates, Florence Gray is so over online dating. So much so, that if she has to survive another guy standing her up she might just do something crazy ... like accept the first proposal she gets.

So when she finds herself alone in the bar, again, Florence can hardly believe her eyes-or ears-when Hugh Humphreys swoops in and presents her with a proposal so adventurous she can't believe she's actually considering saying yes.

Because, after all, twenty five days to plan a wedding is some feat and that's while getting to know your fiancée, their disapproving Mother and dealing with a jealous ex. Throw in the small matter of where they should live and you have Florence wondering what the hell she's gotten herself into.

Can you really countdown to a wedding like an advent calendar? Fall in love with a stranger and make them your husband? Because if she's going to make it down the aisle Christmas morning, Florence has to find out and fast.

Omg! I am such a hopeless romantic, and this fits exactly that. The intensity in this book and love. Not to mention the sexy scenes 😜.

I love the idea of this fun romance. After both Flo and Hugh have been stood up yet again, they start talking to each other in the bar. They get along so well that Hugh proposes later that night. BUT, even more shocking is that he wants to get married Christmas day. That's only 25 days! Amazingly, Flo accepted.

They have a lot to do in a short time if they want to pull off this wedding. Lucky for them, they have great friends. Even though everyone thought this couple were off their rockers, they were supportive and were amazing helpers. They really pulled through, making the lack of money and time, minor problems.

It was hard enough trying to get everything done on time, but add a horrible mother of the groom and a witch of an ex and you have a mess on your hands.

This was a humorous romance that took place at Christmas but could be read at any time. The fact that they both wanted to get married for various reasons out-weighed the lack of connection between them. I didn't get the feeling that they were a really good match but they definitely were attracted to each other. That was the reason I gave it 3.5 stars. That and the swearing. I don't mind swearing but this couple couldn't say a sentence without swearing. Especially Flo. There was way too much for no reason.

Several places in this book I laughed till I cried. Some of the situations Flo was put into were really funny.
This was a new idea for a book that I had never imagined and I loved it. Well written, well edited.
The only thing I could have a problem with is the rough language, although the book might not be as good without it.
I will try Barnard’s writing again.
Might even make a decent movie with the right actors.

I am pretty sure the 1 star people have no sense of the ridiculous. Such a fun read. Such a twist on the classic rich boy / poor girl story. She isn't all the poor though. It is written set in England, so get used to knickers instead of panties, etc. But, have fun as 2 strangers get to know each other in the 25 days from hello to wed.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. At times I thought the couple would never be married. So much went wrong and some of it was really funny. Good read.

Rating 4.5 stars

This is the first book I have read by this author and after enjoying it so much, I will be going through her back catalogue.

Adventurous Proposal is a Christmas themed RomCom, It centres around Flo and Hugh and its very British (there's something to be said about a good, British RomCom).

I really enjoyed this book, It's a bit nuts but has that feel good factor about it that will leave you with a satisfied smile when you're finished.

After reading so many angsty, drama filled stories lately, Laura's humorous writing was a breath of fresh air. The characters were very down to earth and I really enjoyed the authors writing style.

Had this book been a teeny tiny bit longer it would have been a solid 5 stars for me.

I would highly recommend this book for anyone who likes a good, well written RomCom

I absolutely love this book. The sense of humour from the author, the dialogue and the characters. It’s light and it’s funny. I fell in love with Florence and Hugh immediately and can recommend this book to readers who are looking for sizzling romance and some drama.

I'm kinda at a loss of what to think. I kept waiting for some big ball to drop. It never did. It was just a simple story of 2 people deciding to get married without knowing each other very well. I thought there would be some big reveal or something with her dad, but nothing. I was just wanting more...

I just love Laura Barnard's style of writing, the witty banter and funny stories, all mixed with love and romance. I love the way the characters feel like they could be your mates.
The idea behind Adventurous proposal was just so ridiculous, it was funny. I read this book in a day and stayed up far later than I should have reading it but don't regret that one bit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Knocks Your Socks Off!

It's not every day you read a story that knocks your socks off! Without the help of supernatural beings, paranormal phenomenon, or intergalactic aliens, Laura Barnard has captured the magic of love in totally outrageous circumstances. This is an unbelievably quirky tale involving two individuals fed up with the dating scene, the overbearing prospective mother/monster-in-law, and the ever-present ex-fiancee - thank goodness for loyal, steadfast friends. Would definitely recommend, and look forward to reading more from this author. There is some coarse language and smutty scenes, but is relevant and does not detract from the work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Such a sweet story!

'Adventurous Proposal' is only the second book I've read by Laura Barnard but it was so much fun! Florence and Hugh were both great and fun characters and I loved to get to know them.

Hugh and Florence meet in a bar on December 2nd, both stood up by their dates. They start talking and soon realize how much they like the other. Instead of asking for a second date, Hugh proposes to Florence who says yes to this crazy idea. They have a lot to plan since the wedding is scheduled for Christmas Day.

I really liked the storyline of this novel. It was cute, fun, and sweet. I also enjoyed the Christmas aspect in the story since we are only a good 5 weeks away from Christmas ourselves. I first planned to read this book as a Christmas advent calendar book - one day one chapter, starting Dec 1 until Christmas. However, I was a little disappointed that the book only had 19 chapters instead of 24 or 25. This Christmas calendar book idea was just that, an idea and it would've been great if it were that kind of a book, but it wasn't and that's OK. It was still a fun and enjoyable to read and if you're looking for a quick Christmas read then this may be it.

I really adored the last scene at the pub! The whole scene and especially the decoration were amazing!

The novel could've lived without a few certain scenes/situations. I know they were added to spice things up a little, but to me they weren't needed and just added unnecessary drama.

"But when it comes down to it, being in love isn't about listing someone's hobbies or having loads in common. It's about the feeling you get when you look at them, the feeling of coming home."
